Grace Downing married Marvin John Rasdall but they divorced.

Then she married John B. Wells (not Welsh as it is listed in error)

I'm trying to find out where she is buried. In 1940 she was living on West 7th Street in Leavenworth, KS

Grace is my maternal great grandmother

Most of her relatives are buried in Bethel Cemetary in Leavenworth

Does anyone have access to this book? I have found two ancestors listed in this volume on page 61 listed in the index (Elmer Cook and Eudora Cook). I'm just wondering what it says about them before I fork out money for this book.

If you own the book can you tell me briefly what else is included in the book?

If you happen to have the first, I'm also interested in knowing about the Dawson Cook/Cooke listed on page 77, Catherine Dawson listed on page 73, and Moses Wilson on page 1.

Thank you so much!

Also researching surnames Dawson and Wilson from the area and the Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma.

Thank you so VERY much for this article. It makes things clearer. It is so kind of you to help a stranger!
It's odd that the article calls him Roy instead of Eugene. Possibly that was what his friends called him, but I expect it was a mistake made by the writer or compositor.
Here is a transcription, for the record:
Joplin Globe
Joplin, Missouri
Thursday, 14 August 1969 (page 10A)
Illinois Man Dies During Miami Visit
Miami, Okla. -- A Rock Island, Ill., physician was found dead from an apparent heart attack Wednesday in a room at the Thunderbird Motel.
Dr. Roy L. Acuff, 35, had been dead "15 or 16" hours when his body was found, slumped over a table in the room, according to a preliminary report by Ottawa County Medical Examiner Dr. C. W. Letcher. The report indicated death was caused by a coronary attack.
Sheriff William E. Schuelein, who investigated the incident with members of the Miami Police Department, said foul play is not indicated.
Thank you for this information from the funeral home records! It confirms the date of death and adds the burial place.
This is sad to see such promise cut off so soon. Eugene Leighton Acuff was a doctor who had had a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, served in Korea and Vietnam, and then died at only 34. Also, I believe he was his parents' only child.
Thank Ms. Corbell for your help - it will be very useful. For your information see my posting same board on Mrs. Maxine (Gilmore) DeRosa & Family. The family member I really need most is to locate Joseph Wesley Swindell, Maxine's youngest son's family descendants. Joseph and his wife's had children and those cildren/relatives are my prime contacts needed to help complete this long search for information on our Uncle William Ralph Swindell that left his family in Georgia in the early 1900's and lived-worked-traveled-etc thoughout the US. He finally returned in the late 1940's and then left again without relaying much info to his siblings as to where he had roamed for the last 25+ plus years. Thanks again for your help.

I would be grateful if someone could look for information about the death of Eugene Leighton Acuff. He died in Miami on 12 August 1969. The only thing I have so far is from American Medical Association's Deceased Physician File at FamilySearch.org:
Acuff, Eugene Leighton; Rock Island, Ill; Minnesota 1960; veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in Vietnam; died in Miami, Okla, Aug 12, aged 34, of coronary artery occlusion. [Contact:] Mrs. Fred F. Acuff, 1635 36th St., Rock Island, Ill.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-31283-6104-17?...
...
date of birth here --
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-31283-5959-83?...
...
I would guess that an obituary (and maybe an article) appeared in the newspaper a day or two after August 12. Thank you for being willing to help!
Laura

Charley Collins/ Cooper is a very common name. If you have more info on how old this person was, who he may have been married to, When he died, children, parents, ect. it would help researchers to help you. The more info you can provide is better. The last census starts in 1940, so he should be on it, but there are more than one Charley Collins, and Cooper, and this is just the state of Oklahoma.

Looking for information regarding a Charley Collins who would have lived in the Miami (specifically Commerce) Oklahoma area in 1943. There is a chance his name might have been Charley Cooper. I am told he was identifiably Native American. I believe we may be related. I'm a local attorney and have access to a lot of court and land records, but keep running into dead ends. Any help is appreciated.

Looking for any geological information on the descendants of Maxine (Gilmore) Swindell (born about 1912 in Oklahoma or Kansas), Harry Edward Swindell (born 1926 in Miami Ottawa, Oklahoma), Joseph ‘Joe’ Wesley Swindell (born about 1929 in Miami Ottawa, Oklahoma).
This family was living in Pasidora (?sp), California in 1935 and in Greenburg, Westchester County, New York in 1940. In New York they lived with Maxine’s brother Baron Gilmore (age 33) and his wife Melie (age 30), daughters Juanita Gilmore (age 11) & Bety Gilmore (age 10), and son Edward Gilmore (age 8). Maxine (Gilmore) Swindell was my aunt and her children Harry Swindell and Joseph Swindell were my first cousins.
I was in communication with Ms Mary (Gilmore) Haire a few years back from Baxter Springs Kansas – she was living in Tennessee caring for her ill mother. But due a computer failure I lost all contact with her as her e-mail address apparently was lost or changed.
Any help and/or clues you can offer in helping to locate any of these folks will be greatly appreciated.
James Edward Gregg, Paul Gregg, Marie Charlotte Gregg

My name is Jacoby Lowney, I am the Grandson of James Edward Gregg. James Gregg was born in Paris, Bourbon County Kentucky on Sep 2, 1885 and reportedly served active duty during the first world war. We also show him signing up for the draft in Hill County, Montana in 1917 but understood that he may have been active duty prior to this. We do know that James Gregg was in Point Barrow, Alaska when the 1920 Census was recorded. A marriage certif located in Montana shows his parents as a "Paul Gregg" and mother was a "Marie Charlotte". We are not sure what brought Paul Gregg to Paris Kentucky or if Paul was possibly a middle name. Marie Charlotte was reportedly born in Oklahoma and was of Native American descent. This is family lore but there may be some truth to it as there is definately some Native American "features" in some of our family. In the 1920 Census for Point Barrow, Alaska, James Gregg's father was listed as born in "France". James Gregg disappeared for decades and upon the death of his daughter, Virginia in 1953, he was no-where to be found. Recently, I went to San Diego and located his death record which led me right to his grave in Mount. Hope Cemetery. It makes me sad that he just vanished off the earth without ever knowing his family. Even more mysterious, is why the family never heard from him again, even after his passing. We were never notified. Until 2011, We had no idea he was laid to rest in San Diego.

I am desperate to find records on who his parents were, where they came from and what became of them. I would love to discover Marie Charlotte's Native Amercan information as well as Paul Gregg info as well. I would additionally like to obtain all of James Gregg's Military records but don't know where to begin. There seem to be so many records repositories..I am lost. We know that James Gregg and his wife Belva were taken to Point Barrow, Alaska in 1919 aboard the US Revenue Cutter Bear. They were both reportedly in the employ of the Govenment but don't know what capacity. I am so desperate to know my ancestry and it just bothers me to know that the information I am seeking is out there but it seems like finding a needle in a haystack.

Can you help me out here on my request or possibly offer me some insight as to where I can go to get the answers? I am more than willing to pay for results should you be willing to help me. WOuld your library or any of your local genealogical societies have any information on the Gregg family?

My address is 1402 Chanel Loop, Billings, Montana 59101, my telephone number is 406-465-5667 and my email address should you wish to contact me is glendalecrazy@aol.com

Additional information on James Edward Gregg:

SSN: 516-12-6826
Date of Birth: Sep 2, 1885

Passed away in San Diego in 1974.

Last known address: Golden West Hotel, 720 4th Ave. San Diego, California

Thank You in advance for any help you can offer.
Jacoby Lowney

I have hit a roadblock. There are several people that have Sophia Elizabeth (Harmon) Owens (b. 1836 Indiana m. 1851 Missouri) as dying in Miami, Oklahoma. Yet I have found no actual record of her death in 1912 anywhere in Oklahoma. I have been to Vital Records and paid for a death record only to leave empty handed. I can't find any obits either in Oklahoma or Missouri (family still there at the time.) Husband (Elias Ike Owens) died in Missouri in 1915 and 1910 census shows them both alive and in Missouri. Can anyone PLEASE help me?

Thanks for the obituary pages. The reference to Pearl Jones marraige is plausable. I don't know much about my grandfather's siblings, except what I could gleen from early census. I met Pearl and Frank only once in the late fifties at my grandfather's home in Austin, Texas. I was under the impression that they both still lived in Oklahoma. My Greatuncle Frank was a medical doctor, but I don't know where he practiced. I haven't been able to find anything about the rest. It seems that they should have relatives in the Adair/Afton area, but I haven't been able to find them.
I did check the cemetery that the obit said that J.M.Jones and Mrs. J.M.Jones were buried. According to the cemetery's web site, all but about 19 of the headstones have been removed or destroyed. The 19 have been listed and the Jones are not on the list.
Again, I must thank you for your help and ask you if this is a hobby or a business for you?
Hi,

What can someone tell of a Masonic Lodge in Afton?

I'm reading a 1953 obituary for a Dr. Phillip Donohoo, which states he was a charter member of a Masonic Lodge in Afton.

He was born in TN. in 1863, received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in 1891. He and his 2nd wife, Maude, were married in Independence, MO. in Nov. 1916, before they moved to WA. State in December 1916.

Is this Masonic Lodge still active? Does anyone have a contact person, or telephone #?. I'm hoping they might have a photograph of Mr. Donohoo.

The obituary also mentions he was survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren from a previous marriage, but doesn't mention names or locations.

Thanks for any help,
Jeff Elmer
Portland, OR.

I have been researching my genealogy and I came across this thread which is six years old, I am hoping someone will respond. My great grandfather is Felix Dardenne, and I am trying to find out who his parents were. I have gone to the Quapaw tribal office and they didn't have any info as he was born about 1872 and their first allotment roll is from 1890. My grandmother is Ruby Dardenne. If Anyone has any information i would appreciate it immensely. Rosalyn
