Priscilla Stroud Ward is the only child of J.W. Stroud for whom I haven't found a gravesite. J. W. is buried in the Pawhuska cemetery. Because Priscilla and J. H. Ward lived for a long time in Fairfax, it is possible that they are buried there. If you come across information about them, I would appreciate knowing it. Thanks.

James Edward Gregg, Paul Gregg, Marie Charlotte Gregg

My name is Jacoby Lowney, I am the Grandson of James Edward Gregg. James Gregg was born in Paris, Bourbon County Kentucky on Sep 2, 1885 and reportedly served active duty during the first world war. We also show him signing up for the draft in Hill County, Montana in 1917 but understood that he may have been active duty prior to this. We do know that James Gregg was in Point Barrow, Alaska when the 1920 Census was recorded. A marriage certif located in Montana shows his parents as a "Paul Gregg" and mother was a "Marie Charlotte". We are not sure what brought Paul Gregg to Paris Kentucky or if Paul was possibly a middle name. Marie Charlotte was reportedly born in Oklahoma and was of Native American descent. This is family lore but there may be some truth to it as there is definately some Native American "features" in some of our family. In the 1920 Census for Point Barrow, Alaska, James Gregg's father was listed as born in "France". James Gregg disappeared for decades and upon the death of his daughter, Virginia in 1953, he was no-where to be found. Recently, I went to San Diego and located his death record which led me right to his grave in Mount. Hope Cemetery. It makes me sad that he just vanished off the earth without ever knowing his family. Even more mysterious, is why the family never heard from him again, even after his passing. We were never notified. Until 2011, We had no idea he was laid to rest in San Diego.

I am desperate to find records on who his parents were, where they came from and what became of them. I would love to discover Marie Charlotte's Native Amercan information as well as Paul Gregg info as well. I would additionally like to obtain all of James Gregg's Military records but don't know where to begin. There seem to be so many records repositories..I am lost. We know that James Gregg and his wife Belva were taken to Point Barrow, Alaska in 1919 aboard the US Revenue Cutter Bear. They were both reportedly in the employ of the Govenment but don't know what capacity. I am so desperate to know my ancestry and it just bothers me to know that the information I am seeking is out there but it seems like finding a needle in a haystack.

Can you help me out here on my request or possibly offer me some insight as to where I can go to get the answers? I am more than willing to pay for results should you be willing to help me. WOuld your library or any of your local genealogical societies have any information on the Gregg family?

My address is 1402 Chanel Loop, Billings, Montana 59101, my telephone number is 406-465-5667 and my email address should you wish to contact me is glendalecrazy@aol.com

Additional information on James Edward Gregg:

SSN: 516-12-6826
Date of Birth: Sep 2, 1885

Passed away in San Diego in 1974.

Last known address: Golden West Hotel, 720 4th Ave. San Diego, California

Thank You in advance for any help you can offer.
Jacoby Lowney

I'm searching for my grandmother in the 1920 census (Cleo, or Cleopatra Evans).

I found her mother, stepfather and 3 of her brothers in Black Dog, Osage, OK (Sally, Arthur Neely, Anderson Evans, James Evans, and Albert Evans).

I found her future husband (Ed Mace) in the same census in the household of Charly C Harlow (a young family) and an older Charly Harlow is in the next household.

Now, in a summary of Cleo & Ed's life written by my aunt, she mentioned "When Dad was courting Mom, she was a housemaid for the Tude Harlow (full blooded Cherokee) farm in Locust Grove, Okla outside of Tulsa." and that they married in 1920.

I didn't find her in the Black Dog Osage census, and can't find a census for Locust Grove, OK.

Any ideas?
I am looking into my grandmothers side of the family. On her birth certificate, she has listed the city of Cleveland (Pawnee county), Ok as where she was born. But it was crossed off, and the city of Boston Pool was put in its place. Not sure who crossed it off, or if that was where she was really born or not. From what I can tell, Boston Pool is not a city, but there is a cemetery?
Making a trip to Shawnee, Ok this April and going up to Cleveland and Boston Pool area.
Any idea, why it would be crossed off, or about the McCormicks in Boston Pool or Cleveland?
My grandmothers name is Catherine Elizabeth McCormick born to Zelma Helen Larimore and Paul Buel McCormick on April 7, 1943.
Thank you!

I've been doing some research on some of the old ghost towns and have come across some information on LEP and the Osage Railway. The line was extended from Foraker to Shidler with construction from November 10,1921 to February 23,1922. An extension was constructed from Shidler to Lyman with construction in 1923 and the early part of 1924. The Osage Railway was primarily freight service only and was a single track, standard gage, steam railroad. I found some documentation mentioning the construction of the depot at LEP, dated 1924. LEP was the largest gasoline absorbtion plant (refinery) in the world when it was constructed in 1922.

It was also one of the early facilities working for a commerical use of butane and propane. The first propane powered locamotive made it's run from LEP using "Philgas", known today as propane

The Osage Railway was abandoned in 1953. Most of the refineries began shutting down after WWII in 1945, but I haven't found anything specifically saying when the Phillips refinery at LEP shut down. It looks like the Phillips school at LEP was consolidated with Shidler in 1929.

Having driven through the remains of LEP, there are still some of the old "row" houses still standing and occupied east of the county road. Other than that, little remains of the original community.

I recently purchased a RNA quilt dated 1926 from Hominy with following info I found researching it:

1926 RMA #9422 VO Friendship Quilt

RNA is Royal Neighbors of America, a fraternal insurance group dating back to 1895. The camps are based on geographical location and members belong to a camp in the area where they signed up for the insurance. Some of the camps are very active and do community service projects to help improve the lives of women and their families and protect and provide for them with scholarship programs, disaster relief

Today, Royal Neighbors has more than 215,000 members across the nation volunteering in their communities through our chapter system. In the last 40 years alone our members have given $350 million in time and talent to their communities.
Names on the quilt include: Helen Pyles, Mrs. Mary Plummer, Hominy, OK, Mary Souter, Maude Winkle, Hominy camp 9622, Jennifer Ragsdell, Hominy, OK Lodge #9422 “Faith”, Anna Lowther, Hominy, OK #9422 “Modesty,” Anna Fleming, Wild Horse Camp 9422 “Endurance”, A.ma Free, Wild Horse camp 9422 “unselfishness”, Ninnie Nevergal, Hominy, OK April 11, 1926, Mrs. Eva Dixon, Hominy, OK, Lela Acill. Leeta Holliman, Irene Smith, Hominy, OK, Ada Wildey. Cora Brown, Hominy, OK, Hazel Moore, Hattie Pope, Bertha Kelly, Recorder 9422, Mrs. Mildred Shumaker, Skiatook, OK, Roxie Hendershot.

Commercial life insurance became very popular in the post-Civil War era. Originally, the insurance was backed by stock companies and was too expensive for anyone other than prosperous, white businessmen. By the 1880s, several fraternal benefit nonprofit societies were created which offered insurance protection to their male members. In 1883, a fraternal benefit society was created called the Modern Woodmen of America, a legal reserve fraternal assessment society. The Woodman of the World is a fraternal life insurance society.
But by the late 1880s, the United States was undergoing significant economic and societal changes. In November 1888, the wives of the Modern Woodmen of America in Council Bluffs, IA formed a ‘ladies auxiliary’ to the Modern Woodmen Camp 171. Within a year, the group had reorganized as a social organization and renamed themselves the “Royal Neighbors of America”. The local groups, called camps, held social events and carried out benevolent work.
Between 1892 and 1894, the Royal Neighbors voted to incorporate as a fraternal benefit society in the state of Illinois which had favorable insurance laws. By 1895, RNA included 4,100 charter members; assessments of and benefits to the female members played an important role. The society was formed “to bring joy and comfort into many homes that might otherwise today be dark and cheerless…by affording the mother an opportunity to provide protection upon her life.” By 1903, RNA extended its membership to include all women, not only those affiliated with Modern Woodmen.
The RNA parade ribbon from the Lilac Camp in Kansas displays the emblem has remained unchanged since 1894 and represents the values most important to those pioneering women and the guiding principles of the organization:
The blue petal represents Faith. The “grace”, or symbol within it, is a cross with a lily of the valley flower. The yellow petal represents Unselfishness, and its grace is a handshake. The green petal represents Courage, and its grace is a sword. The purple petal represents Endurance, and its grace is a crown. The white petal represents Modesty, and its grace is a shield. The symbol in the center represents Morality, and its grace is a crown with a cross.

am looking for information about Seth Mabry Lewis, born Nov. 5, 1881 in London, Kimble, Texas and was married to Alberta "Bertie" unknown, lived in Osage and Washington Counties, Oklahoma... reported to have been a Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff of Osage County in the 20's... was sent to Leavenworth Prison, Jan 8, 1927... perhaps for bribery...any info appreciated. Can't find any records of his being a Deputy or Sheriff... but do have newsclipping stating he was. I would love confirmation with records. I have a pic of his mother, Betty Boyce. Email me or find me on Ancestry. Attaching file/ newsclipping.

In 1917 he was listed as a Cattleman and his business was the "Smith & Lewis Cattle Co."...of Fairfax, Pawhuska in Osage County...

Questions: Did he remarry after divorcing Bertie? Where did he die? One source says he died in 1947 in Bartlesville, OK...I don't have proof of it. What was he in prison for? How long was he there? I am going to contact Leavenworth and see if they have old archives available. Any one know anything about him, please contact me...

Would appreciate an attempt to locate a death notice or obituary for Alice (Thomas) Davidson who died in an auto accident from Osage Co. to Florida in May 1973. She was buried May 22, 1973 at Woodland Cemetery. The burial record does not give her death date or location
Alice was born and raised in Osage County and was living in Davenport, Polk, Florida in 1955 when her father died.

Don

The names are John Lemuel Tisdale and Ethel Emogene (Tilson)
They were married Sept 11, 1915 in Pawnee County. Ethel remarried again in 1926 and Mr. Tisdale died in 1966. I can only conclude that they must have divorced. Thank you for your help.
