Funk mentioned in Coffeyville Journal 1891 -
July 2, 1891 - A shooting scrap occurred on
California Creek, in the Indian Territory, a few miles south of Coffeyville, on Thursday afternoon. Beorge
Mode, who is employed by T. C. Funk, on his ranch, was on his way to town, when he met
Bud McGirl, a young farmer who resides on
California Creek. The two young fellows fell out and quarreled. Our information is that
Mode drew a 32 revolver and fired two shots at
McGirl at short range. Fortunately, neither shot took effect, but both were very close calls for
McGirl. Deputy U. S. Marshal
Cowden, happened to be in the neighborhood, and he promptly arrested
Mode and telegraphed to Ft. Smith for a warrant. (Coffeyville Journal)
