Services for lifetime Chelsea-Alluwe area resident John Edwin Allison who passed away Sunday, January 28, 2001 at the age of 87, was held Wednesday, January 31 in the First Christian Church in Chelsea with Brother Richard Billings officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Chelsea Funeral Home.
The only child of Henry Corwine and Mary Luma Roberts Allison, he was born November 28, 1913 in Chelsea. Johnny attended school at Winganon and graduated from Alluwe High School. Allison married Mildred Madelon Myers on January 28, 1938 in Bartlesville. They made their first home in Coffeyville where Johnny played his guitar and sang country music of KGGF radio. He was a very talented musician who throughout his life was asked to play and sing for dances, pie suppers, funerals, church and the Chelsea Jamboree.
He was a friend of the late Senator Robert S. Kerr and had played for his fund raisers. He had also performed for the Cal Tinney Show on television.
Johnny was a retired oil field worker and an auto mechanic.
He was a member of White Christian Church, where he served on the board but more recently had moved his membership to the First Christian Church in Chelsea. He was a member of the Chelsea Roundup Club and had served on the Alluwe School
Board.
Mr. Allison was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Allison; a son, George, who died in Vietnam on April 27, 1968 and a grandson, John Whitney Allison.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Chelsea; son, David Allison of Palo Alto, California; daughter, Jan and husband, Wayne Stinnett of Chelsea; grandsons: Wesley Matthew Allison of Henderson, Nevada and Donnie McPheeters
of Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Rebecca and John Allison of Henderson, Nevada.
