Graveside services for Arthur Ward Harshman, Jr., 59, of Twin Falls, Idaho, who died Thursday, January 18, 2001 at his home, were held Saturday, February 3 at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the graveside services an open house was held at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall where family and friends reminisce at his life and adventures.

Arthur was born in Nowata on June 12, 1941 to Arthur Ward and Irene Clingan Harshman. He graduated from Nowata High School in 1959 and received his BS from Oklahoma State University in 1965. Following graduation from Oklahoma
State, he entered the army and was part of a medical team that established hospitals in Japan to treat seriously wounded soldiers serving in Vietnam. He was stationed in Japan from 1965 to 1967. Following his military service he continued his education and received his masters degree from California State University.

Arthur's lifelong love of the outdoors was realized with his move to Twin Falls, Idaho, where he worked in the laboratory field for over twenty-five years, before establishing the Rainbow Fly Fishing Shop in 1996. His expertise in fly-tying and fishing knowledge was passed on to many fishermen. Believing in the catch and release program, he worked with area youth to promote conservation of Idaho's fishing area.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Natasa Harshman of New York City; his best friend and companion, Ruth Stayner of Twin Falls; his mother, Irene Harshman of Tulsa; sister and brother-in-law Avonnel and Roger Chitwood of Dallas, Texas and Tulsa and nephew, Johnathan of Kansas City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Harshman, Sr. and nephew, Matthew Chitwood.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice, Southern Idaho Regional Cancer Center Foundation, PO Box 409, Twin Falls, ID 83303.
