Funeral services for Virginia Louise Owens, 64, of Wann, who died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa were held Monday, April 16 at the Wann Baptist Church with Pastor Chester Reich officiating. Interment followed in the Wann Cemetery under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home. Casket escords included James Johnson, Rusty Owens, James Owens, Jr., Robbie Dunkle, Danny Hahn and Tim Roe.
Virginia was born on March 9, 1937 at Bartlesville to Robert Lee and Selma Scholl Dunkle. She grew up and attended schools in northern Washington County and received further education in early childhood development. She was married to Norman Owens on March 30, 1954 at the Wann Baptist Church in Wann. They have made their home in Wann since that time with the exception of living in the Hulah area for two years and in Ramona for three years where they operated a service station. Mrs. Owens was employed with Head Start Program in Washington and Nowata Counties for 12 years until ill health forced her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist CHurch and Senior Citizens at Wann.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Owens of the home, two sons, James Eugene Owens of Bartlesville and Norman Ray "Bud" Owens of Dewey, two daughters, Lenna Louise Johnson of Wann and Alice Jean "Jeannie" Murray of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters: Evelyn Jean Horton of Bartlesville and Mary Joan Hahn of Bixby; one brother; Robert James Dunkle of Skiatook; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Paul Allen Owens and one grandchild, Becky Owens.
