Funeral services for Terry Lane Hessong, 62, Nowata resident who joined his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, April 14, 2001 while in Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center, will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 18 in the Hillside Christian Church at Nowata. Ben Killion will officiate and interment will follow in Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata. The family suggests that friends who wish may remember the 10-33 Emergency Team at 321 East Cherokee in Nowata, or the Terry Hessong Memorial Scholarship Fund at either the First National Bank or WestStar Bank in Nowata.
Terry began this life July 15, 1938 in Bartlesville as the son of Eldo and Roene Adams Hessong. He grew up at Bartlesville where he graduated from College High School in 1956. Terry attended NEO A&M were he completed a major in Business. He served as a payroll clerk in the US Army from 1960 to 1963. While in the army, Terry was united in marriage with Carolyn Waddell on June 30, 1962 at Miami.
After Terry received his Honorable Discharge, he returned to Bartlesville and began his banking career where he has worked for most of the past 38 years. Terry began his career at Union National Bank in Bartlesville and later moved to the Victory National Bank for 25 years, moving up to CEO/President for serveral years before his departure. He then served as Executive Vice President of Operations for Disan Engineering Corporation in Nowata. Most recently, Terry worked for Security State Bank at Wewoka as Executive Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer.
Terry was active in community affairs and was a member of the Nowata Country Club where he served as President, a member of the Nowata Area Chamber of Commerce, the Nowata Men's Golf Association and the Nowata Rotary Club. Terry also actively served in numerous other organizations, including the Nowata Educational Endowment Foundation, the Nowata Ironmen Booster Club, the Nowata Speech Parent Club and the Board of the Nowata Hospital. Terry's hobbies included golf, bowling, attending Oklahoma State University athletic events and being "Papa Kool" to his beloved grandchildren.
Terry is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carolyn Hessong of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Ana Hessong of McKinney, Texas; his two grandchildren, Katie Beth and Jake; his sister and brother-in-law, Cherry and Bob Clarkson of Raytown, Missouri; his step-grandmother, Newell Hessong of Nowata; his two special foster sons: Trey and Eric Schwab; his mother-in-law, Margaret Waddell of Menard, Texas; by other relatives and his many friends.
Mr. Hessong was preceded in death by his parents; Eldo and Roene Hessong.
