Inez Mae
Tanner, 88, and a Nowata resident, died Tuesday March 27, 2001, as the result of an automobile and train accident in Nowata.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tanner were held Friday, March 30, in the Trinity Full
Gospel Church in Nowata. The Reverend Paul
Campbell officiated and interment followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery, in Claremore, under the direction of Benjamin Funeral
Service of Nowata. The family suggests that friends who wish may remember the Trinity Full
Gospel Church at 117 South
Willow, Nowata, OK 74048.
Mae began this life on November 8, 1912 in
Foyil, as the daughter of John Wesley
Hankins and
Hattie Lillian
Lott Hankins. Mae grew up in the Claremore area where she lived most of her life. She met , and later was united in marriage with
Elwood Wilson Tanner, Sr. on September 14, 1931 in
Pryor. The couple moved to
Avant, in 1954 and later to Nowata in 1969. Mrs. Tanner worked at the Ben Franklin Variety Store in Nowata and also for Gilbert Shoe Store in Nowata. She was a very active member of the Trinity Full
Gospel Church in Nowata. Mrs. Tanner enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, and working crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Tanner is survived by: one son,
Wilson Tanner and his wife, Wathena of Skiatook; one daughter, Kitty Thomas and her husband, Bill of Collinsville; one sister-in-law, Lois
Rollins of Miami; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and her many friends.
Mrs. Tanner was preceded in death by: her husband,
Elwood Tanner in September of 1973; her parents, John Wesley and
Hattie Lillian Hankins; one brother,
Forrest Hankins; two sisters, Nettie
Hereford and June
Rowe.
