Memorial services for Patricia D. Canon, 79, of DeKalb, Illinois, who passed away Friday, March 16, 2001 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb, were held Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at the Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.
Patricia was born July 20, 1921 in Nowata, the daughter of C.J. and Mary Cecil Halbert Dugan. She married Charles Canon on August 11, 1944 in San Francisco, California. She spent her early years in Oklahoma and graduated from Nowata High School. She received her Bachelors degree from Oklahoma State University and Masters in Education from Northern Illinois University. Patricial was an assistant professor at NIU in the education department for over 20 years. She had formerly taught elementary school in DeKalb. She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. Patricia had served as president of the DeKalb County Historical Society and was one of the original members of the group who organized Ellwood House. She was a former president of the DeKalb Classroom Teachers' Association and served as the Democratic chairwoman for DeKalb County. She had formerly been active with the Westminster Presbyterian Church in DeKalb.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Canon of the home; a daughter, Carolyn (Michael Groak) Canon; a granddaughter, Robyn Allen, all of DeKalb; a step-granddaughter, Katy Croak of Wonder Lake, Illinois; a sister, Eleanor Dancer of Nowata and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Charlotte Myers.
A memorial is being established for Patricia D. Canon in care of the Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, DeKalb, Illinois 60115.
