Graveside services for A.T. Mooney, 91, long time resident of Nowata, who died Monday, February 26, 2001 in the Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center, were held in Memorial
Park Cemetery in Nowata with the Reverends Jerry K. Coldren and Raymond
Whitstone officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service in Nowata.
A.T. Mooney began this life March 4, 1909 in Fallsville,
Arkansas as the son of Tom and Annie
Mooney. He grew up in
Arkansas and received his education in the Patterson Springs School in
Arkansas. Mr. Mooney moved to the Stroud-Prague area of
Oklahoma when he was a young man. He met and later was united in marriage with Gatha Irene Slead at
Davenport. They moved to Chesea where they raised their family. The Mooneys moved to Nowata 37 years ago. His wife Gatha Irene
Mooney preceded him in death in 1980. Later A.T. and Marlynn
Roe, were married February 7, 1983 in Miami and the couple have continued to make Nowata their home. Mr. Mooney had worked as the Circulation Manager for the Bartlesville Examiner, the Coffeyville Journal and the Tulsa World. He was a well known rental property owner in Nowata and enjoyed taking care of his property. Mr. Mooney also enjoyed plaing his fiddle and guitar. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Nowata.
Survivors include his wife, Marlynn
Mooney of the home; one son, Joe Dale
Mooney of
Newberg, Indiana; six daughters: Wanda Freeman of Chelsea; Patty Dennis of Claremore; Wilma Dennis of Claremore; Wilma Moore of Las
Vegas , Nevada; Barbara
Plank of Claremore;
Gwen Flemming of
California and Carol
Sellers of Nowata; by two stepsons: Glenn
Roe and Arthur
Roe, both of
Pleasant Valley, New York; two step-daughters: Gail Melee of Elizabeth City,
North Carolina and
Lyn Edwards of
Joplin, Missouri; one half-brother, Roy Norton of Prague; one half-sister, Inez Holland, also of Prague; twenty grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchidren, other relatives and his many friends.
In addition to his first wife, Mr. Mooney was also preceded in death by one son, Jack
Mooney and four step-children.
The family suggests that friends who wish may remember the 10-33 Emergency Team at 321 East Cherokee in Nowata.
