Funeral services for William L. "Bill"
Morgan, Jr., 76, of Iola,
Kansas, who died Sunday, February 25, 2001, at
Allen County Hospital in Iola, will be held Wednesday, February 28 at 1:30 PM at the First
Baptist Church in Iola,
Kansas. The Reverend Jim
Laws will officiate. Burial will follow in
Highland Cemetery in Iola under the direction of Waugh-Yokum &
Fiskel Memorial
Chapel of Iola.
Bill was born July 29, 1924 in Pawhuska, the son of Beulah and William
Lincoln Morgan, Sr. He graduated from Nowata High School and then served with the U.S. Army Air
Corp during WWII. After the war he made his home in Coffeyville and worked for
Sherwin Williams Paint Co. He furthered his education by taking continuing education courses through
Kansas University and Wichita State University. He moved to Independence and worked 32 years for Automotive Controls
Corp. retiring in January of 1996 as a supervisor.
On December 3, 1966, he married Velma M. Johnson. They moved to Iola from Independence in October of 1995. He was a member of the
SEK.K. Manufacturing Engineers Association. While living in Independence he belonged to First Southern
Baptist Church. After moving to Iola, he joind First
Baptist Church and served as trustee. He was a sports enthusiast and also enjoyed traveling, gardening and his cat, "
Buster."
Survivors include his wife, Velma M. Morgan of the home; one son, Christopher L. Johnson of
Cameron, Missouri; three daughters: Sharon Ann
Morgan of Aluwe; Cheryl L. Dillow of Iola,
Kansas and Cathy S. Stueckemann of Jacksonville, Florida; three brothers:
Hubert Morgan of Siloam
Springs, Arkansas; Tom
Morgan of Coffeyville,
Kansas and Jim
Morgan of Wichita, Kansas; also, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob
Morgan.
