Graveside services for George S. Watson, 83, of Nowata who died Monday, January 15, 2001 at the Nowata Nursing Center, were held Wednesday, January 17 at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery with Ben Killion officiating. Interment followed at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata.
George was born at El Reno on March 28, 1917 to James S. and Rosa May Weldman Watson. He grew up at El Reno and received his education there. Ruby Langley and George were married at El Reno in 1936. He moved to Nowata as a young man and in 1972 he moved to Missouri. George began his working years by farming. He later worked for Douglas Aircraft for 25 years and then for the Lear Jet Corp. for 15 years. Mr. Watson returned to Nowata in May of 1999. He enjoyed wolfhunting and was a former member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jackie Woods and her husband, James of Nowata; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Pearl Barcus and Ellen Cooper.
