Cassell
A private family service was held for Dr. Lucille "Lucy"
Cassell, 82 who passed away at her home in
Leander,
Texas on January 8, 2001 after an extended illness, at
Beck Funeral Home in Cedar
Park,
Texas on Saturday, January 13. Interment followed at
Liberty Hill,
Texas, under the direction of
Beck Funeral Home.
Lucille was born June 25, 1918 in Chicago,
Illinois to
Otto and Victoria Hanslovsky Nerad. She was raised and educated in the Chicago area. She attended
Radcliff College of Optometry where she met her husband Clarence
Cassell. They were married in 1940 and moved to Nowata to begin their practice. After the birth of their two children they moved their residence to the old Ralph Vandergriff farm at Alluwe. In 1958, they moved to Bartlesville.
Lucy was a volunteer at Jane
Phillips Episcopal Hospital for many years; she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bartlesville and was active in the Home Demonstration Club as well as many civic organizations. She enjoyed volunteering as a docent at Woolaroc Museum.
Her hobbbies included gardening, sewing, cooking and working with stained glass; but, her first love was always her family, and especially her grandchildren. In 1994, she moved to
Austin,
Texas to be close to her children and grandchildren.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Clarence Cassell; her parents,
Otto and Victoria Nerad; her brother, Frank Nerad and her nephew, Ricky Nerad.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Shirley
Cassell of Houston,
Texas and daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Joe Galica of
Leander,
Texas. She is also survived by brothers,
Otto Nerad and wife Muriel and Richard Nerad and wife, Pat all from the Chicago area and sister-in-law,
Blanche Nerad of
Burbank,
California. Six grandchildren:
Torrey Butzer and husband,
Hans of
Oklahoma City; Karen Werner and husband, John of El Paso, Texas; Chris
Cassell, Amanda
Simmons and Jon
Simmons all of Houston; Katy Galica of
Austin,
Texas and a great granddaughter, Daisy Ann Butzer of
Oklahoma City as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
