Graveside services for Lourine
Barron 81, of Nowata who died Wednesday, December 20, 2000 at her home were held Friday, December 22 at Nowata Memorial
Park Cemetery with Ben
Killion officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Benjamin Funeral
Service in Nowata.
Lourine was born at
Commerce on January 19, 1919, the daughter of Joseph Henry Thomas "Tom" and Jessie Ann
Huffman Melton. The family moved from
Commerce to Alluwe when she was a young girl and she received her education in the Alluwe
Schools. Lourine moved to
Oregon during World War 2 where she worked in the Ship
Yards. She moved back to Nowata in the late 1940's where she worked as a waitress at the
Chuck Wagon Cafe and
Bliss Restaurant. She moved to
Waco,
Texas in the 1960's and worked as a waitress at George's Chef Restaurant. Lourine and Col. Gaines J. Barnes (believe this is error, but this is how it appears) were married at McClennan County,
Texas on June 18, 1963. She returned to Nowata in 1983 where she has lived since that time. Mrs. Barron was a member of the Society of Military Widows and the VFW Auxiliary.
Mrs. Barron is survived by one sister, Imogene
Mattis and her husband, Jack of Bartlesville; many nieces and nephews, including Johnnie
Swalley and his wife, Connie of Nowata. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Gaines J. Barron on October 15, 1974; a brother and four sisters.
