Funeral services for Dorothy Mae
Carter, 90 of Nowata, who died Tuesday, December 26, 2000 at the Jane
Phillips Medical Center at Bartlesville, were held Friday, December 29 in the Stumpff-Nowata Funeral Home
Chapel with Brother Harold
Cheek of the Kingdom
Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. Interment followed in the Ball Cemetery at
Childers under the direction of Stumpff-Nowata Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born on September 27, 1910 at
Hazen,
Arkansas to
Lige and Katie
Smith Carter. She grew up in the Des Arc,
Arkansas area until coming to
Oklahoma. She was married to Dale
Carter on December 10, 1927 at Claremore. They made their home in the Coody's Bluff area of
Nowata County and in
Rogers County. Mrs. Carter was active in nursing at the Nowata Clinic and in later years as a private duty nurse. She was a member of the Kingdom
Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Her husband, Dale
Carter preceded her in death in 1961. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, two daughters: Betty
Smith and Donna
Hash and one son,
Buzz Carter.
Mrs. Carter is survived by one son,
Chub Carter and his wife, Cindy of Nowata; three daughters: Barbara Joyce and her husband Jay of Ochelata; Wanda
Shearer and Krisda
Ewers, both of Nowata; a sister, Rachel
Chambers of Claremore; 27 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established to the 10-33 Emergency Team, 321 E. Cherokee in Nowata.
