Memorial services for Leland A. Corey, 78 of Danville, Illinois who died Friday, November 24, 2000 at Provena USMC, Logan campus were held Monday, November 27 at Pape Memorial Home and Gardens in Danville with the Reverend David Garver officiating.
Leland was born March 23, 1922 in Nowata, the eldest child of Lue A. and Nada Patton Corey. He attended the public schools of Nowata, graduating salutatorian of his class of 1939. A licensed and later ordained Baptist minister, he received a BA from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1943, a BA in Theology from Soughtwestern Baptist Theological Seminary of Kansas City in 1948. Later he earned a masters degree in library science from the University of Kansas. He served as a librarian in St. Louis and at Danville Junior College. Mr. Corey was a faithful member of the Ridgeview Baptist Church of Danville. He married Hariette Grant of St. Louis in 1966.
Mr. Corey was preceded in death by his wife, Hariette in 1977.
He is survived by: his brother, Orlin R. Corey of New Orleans, Louisianna; Mrs. Eva Corey of Decatur, Arkansas, the widow of his late father; a niece, Georgia Kilmartin of Sherman Oaks, California; a nephew, Edward Brewer of Hawaii and a cousin, Delores McGee of Kansas City, Missouri.
