Mrs. Laura A. Hough, 85 of Nowata, died December 10, 2000 in Jane Phillips Medical Center, of Bartlesville.
Laura was born May 4, 1915 to Frank David and Aryle VanHoose of Coffeyville, Kans. and received her education there.
She later moved to the Childers community in 1946 and then Nowata on April 1, 1992. She spent her years as a homemaker and was an outstanding cook. At one time she cooked on the Halsell Ranch near Lenapah; at the Bliss restaurant in Nowata and for Lenapah Schools.
She loved he outdoors and was known for her beautiful needle work. She was involved in many church activities, volunteered for the Nowata Historical society and belonged to the Home Extension Club. She was a devoted member of Childers Full Gospel Church.
Laura first married Robert L. Seaton on September 18, 1936 at Independence, Kans., who died August 1968. She then married George W. Hough on January 1, 1970 at Lenapah, Okla., and he died February 13, 1990.
Survivors include: two sons, George Hough of Coffeyville, Kans.; Mike Hough of Nowata; one daughter, Mary Stewart of Nowata; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister, Florence Stroud of Junction City, Kans.; also many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Hough was also preceded in death by her parents, and four sisters, Naomi Beason, Mary Lasley, Martha June Reynolds and Thelma Marie Rankin.
Funeral Services were at Benjamin Funeral Chapel in Nowata, Wednesday, December 13, 2000 with Sister Shirley Randall as the Pastor in charge. Interment was at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery and under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Service.
