MRS. BEARD PASSES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS
Mrs. Laura Beard, aged 75 years, pioneer Davis citizen, passed away Sunday
morning after an illness of only 12 days. Creeping paralysis was given as
the cause of her death.
Funeral rites were held at her home Monday afternoon, with Rev. J.F. Crews
officiating. Burial was in Green Hill cemetary beside her husband two
children.
Mrs. Laura Vergilia Beard, nee Brown, was born in Tennessee, Sept. 26, 1860.
On Feb. 15, 1880, she married Geo. M. Beard, to which union 11 children
were born, eight of whom are living, namely:
Mrs. Laura Brown in California; Mrs. Ervin Harmon, Davis; Mrs. P.O. Starks,
Fort Worth; Mrs. Susie Blocker, Sulphur, Okla; Jake Beard, Salinas, Cal.;
Bill Beard, Beebe, Okla., and Frank Beard, Davis.
Leaving Tennessee Mrs. Beard and husband lived in North Texas many years,
coming to Davis before statehood. AFter the death of her husband in 1913
she went to California and lived several years. The remainder of her life
was spent in Davis where she made friends of those with whom she came in
contact.
