Several years ago, Ancestry.com bought Rootsweb.com. The Murray County website has always been on Rootsweb.com. At that time, we who are in the genealogy field, knew that it was just a matter of time before Rootsweb.com would be sucked into Ancestry.com.

It has now happened. Ancestry.com is the Killer Whale of the field. They charge for everything. We at OkGenWeb thought it was time to get out of the Rootsweb circle.

We County Coordinators have donated thousands of hours and dollars of our money and time to present freely to you, the genealogy researchers the pages you see. Now it is apparent that Ancestry.com is going to start charging for our hours of research and time.

This charging for research may take effect in 1 year or 5 years,but, it WILL happen. Most of the States have pulled out of Rootsweb.com along with Oklahoma.

We want you to have the information that we have collected and submitted as freely as we & you submitted it.

I am writing this letter to explain. Within the next few weeks, the Murray County Page on Rootsweb.com will be pulled. When you log on to the old MurrayCounty page you will get a re-direct page.

The new website will be http://www.okgenweb.org/~okmurray Please bookmark this new website. I will not announce when this will be done. You are now warned!

Okgenweb.org will have their own domain where there will never be the chance of it ever being a pay site. I have spent many hours trying to get the links in the new site working. If you have a problem, let me know.
