Services for Luz "Luzi" Maria Torres Barcenas, 22, Roff, will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 23 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sulphur with Father Russell Hewes officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Ada with Krien Funeral Home of Sulphur in charge of arrangements.

Born February 8, 1984 in Mexico to Gregorio and Esperanza Barcenas Torres, she died Saturday, Aug. 19 near Sulphur.

At the age of six months she moved with her family to Roff and graduated from Roff High School in May, 2003. She received many scholarship offers and chose to attend St. Gregory's University in Shawnee before transferring to East Central University in Ada to study nursing. She was working for Arbuckle Memorial Hospital in Sulphur while attending college. She also worked as an intrepreter for the State Health Department in Ada. She helped out in her family's business, performing all the accounting chores and enjoyed taking care of her younger brothers and sister. Luzi was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Sulphur.

Surviving are her parents, Greg and Esperanza, of the home; three brothers, Greg, Andres and Jesus J. Torres, all of the home; one sister, Sendi Torres, of the home; grandparents, Berulo Barcenas Zavala and Alejandra Rocha Escandon of San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

She was preceded in death by a brother, David Torres Barcenas and four uncles, Jose Barcenas, Guadalup Torres, Antonio Torres and Rojelia Torres.

Pallbearers were Danny Howery, Joel Barcenas, Augustin Barcenas, Domingo Barcenas, Jose Vargas and Coach Ed Simmon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been set up at the Oklahoma Heritage Bank of Roff and the Sulphur Community Bank in Sulphur.
