Services for Bessie Viola McCarty, 85, of Courtney, were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 16 at the Gospel Tabernacle Church, Ringling, with Bro. Jimmy Morris and Bro. Jimmy May officiating. Interment was at Belleville-Bourland Cemetery.
Born April 5, 1924 in Addington, the daughter of John Bunyon and Nora Savilla Davis Barton, she died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in the Healdton hospital.
Mrs. McCarty was raised in Love and Jefferson counties. She and Lloyd McCarty were married December 24, 1943 in Belleville, making their home in Courtney Flatts, where they lived all of their married life. Mrs. McCarty was a homemaker. She loved quilting, gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. McCarty was a devoted mother and grandmother, and a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church since 1947.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dewayne and Wetona McCarty of Courtney; three daughters and sons-in-law, LaRay and Meril Hodges, Louise Harris and Patricia and Gary Martin, all of Healdton; nine grandchildren, Lynn Hodges of County Line, Sandra Hodges, Jim Harris and Michelle Blakemore of Healdton, Melissa Harris of Washington, Kevin Martin of Davis, Kim Farris of Noble, Stephanie McCarty of Norman and Shelby McCarty of Courtney; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; a daughter, Nora Jean Peavler; a sister, Melba Doyal; and five brothers, Cecil Barton, Johnny Barton, Tommy Barton, Buryl Barton and Oma Belcher.
Pallbearers were Lynn Hodges, Jim Harris, Cody Hodges, Kevin Martin, Clint Blakemore, Ryan Blakemore and Doug Farris. Honorary pallbearers were Paul King, Mike Emberling and the men of the Gospel Tabernacle Church.
