Letter from the judge of Garvin County in which the state of Oklahoma vs. dependent and neglected children, LAVONIA SEAY, NORA SEAY, and PRUDENCE SEAY. Their custody was removed from their mother, MYRTLE SEAY, and they were placed in custody of the Oklahoma Benevolent Orphan’s Association, managers of the Cornish Orphans’ Home of Cornish in July 1911. Details of circumstances are in the letter.

“Gave him to said Cornish Home and their whereabouts are at time unknown are living; his father is very old and the whole family including father and mother were on the charity of the people of Waurika, his father being unable to work… juveniles are dependent children, all under age of 16, …the said Cornish Orphans’ Home now has in its care and keeping 34 children, that it has been receiving State aid the past 2 years… said children should be committed to the Oklahoma State Home at Prior / Pryor Creek. … the said IRA SEARS, LEWIS EDMOND, WILLIE PEARSON, PAUL PEARSONS, ALFRED PEARSONS, HUBERT MCCLUTCHEON, and GEORGE GILL are declared to be dependent children, under age of 16, without proper parental care…. Said M. E. HARRIS is hereby directed to take said children and commit said children to the Oklahoma State Home at Prior Creek…

HELEN MORRISON and ROBERT MORRISON, dependent and neglected children, children of JOHN W. MORRISON, white American, now deceased; a resident of Johnston County at time of death; and MOLLIE MORRISON, white American, who deserted the children some nine years ago. John W. Morrison, their father, was born in Texas, date not given, said to be honest, industrious, of little education, not a church member. Died Aug. 26, 1934, buried at Rose Hill cemetery near Wapanucka. MOLLIE MORRISON, nee SMITH, did not have a good education; was at one time a member of the Methodist church at Wapanucka; place of residence not unknown. HELEN MORRISON was born at Bromide, Johnston County, march 10, 1924, member of the Christian Church; in fourth grade at school; child of good habits. ROBERT MORRISON was born in Wapanucka, Johnston County; June 10, 1926; not permitted to attend church or Sunday school very much; seems to have good habits.
Children are under custody of TOM MORRISON, a brother age 21; and SYLVIA MORRISON age 18; both residents of Wapanucka; brother and sister are unable to care for younger brother and sister; Helen and Robert should be placed in a suitable institution… Cornish Children’s Home.

On March 18, 1938: ADDIE LUE BARNETT, citizen of Jefferson County, alleges that DONALD RAY BARNETT, age 2, and JOHNIE / JOHNNIE CECIL BARNETT, age 4, minors under 16; without a permanent home, father deserted them; mother Addie Lue Barnett unable to support her children. Children should be placed in Cornish children’s Home at Ringling.
