FRED THOMPSON, age 61, a former Ringling resident, died suddenly of a heart attack at Brock near Ardmore Tuesday noon. Services will be at the Bettes funeral home chapel in Ardmore Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. E. VICTOR JONES, pastor of the Ringling First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. cemetery here. Surviving are two brothers, W. T. THOMPSON of Oklahoma City and ARTHUR THOMPSON of Chealis(?), Washington; two sisters, Mrs. OSCAR ATHEY of Ringling and Mrs. ALICE UHIS of Walters. His parents and a sister Mrs. LUCILLE BECKHAM, preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. L. B. SOUTHWARD of Zaneis visited the RUFFIN LONGEST home.
Mrs. IRA EAKIN returned from the Hardy Sanitarium where she was a patient for four days.
ROY PRUITT is back home after two weeks in the St. Anthony hospital.
Miss LENA FAYE BANKS, a 4th and 5th grade teacher in the Courtney school, was a guest of the C. J. Longest home.
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. DAVIS and daughters, SAUNDRA and JOAN, were guests of the PETE STEVENS family.
Mr. and Mrs. ROBERT FOX, son LYNDAL and daughter MALACHA were dinner guests of the HUBERT SPIVEY family.
Mr. and Mrs. EARL HOWARD and son of Mountain Home visited the HENRY HOWARD family and the HARRY SAVAGE family.
Mrs. B. EAKIN and Mrs. R. T. LONGEST made a business trip to Ardmore.
Mrs. C. J. Longest visited Mrs. IRA EAKIN.

The Grady Quilting Club
The Grady Quilting Club met at the home of Mrs. LOIS RICH Thursday, Jan. 13. A covered dish lunch was enjoyed by Mesdames OPH RICH, A. DYL, JOHN HERRIN, ALFRED SOWELL, HERMAN GRIFFIN, CECIL EVANS, CORA HERRIN, HENRY VAUGHN, NEWELL FARMER, GEORGE STANTON, OREN CLAXTON, LOYD SAPPINGTON, and SCOTT DINNERS, all of Grady, NORMAN RICHARDSON and NORVELL TRIPP from Oscar.

Mrs. W. H. WRIGHT returned from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. LEX SHELBY at Galveston, Texas, where she got acquainted with her new granddaughter, born Jan. 1.

Mrs. SCOTT DENNIS, Mrs. CECIL EVANS and Mrs. ASA REYNOLDS from Grady surprised Mrs. GERTRUDE JOHNSON on her 68th birthday, Jan. 17. Mrs. HASKELL EVANS also joined them for dinner. Mr. and Mrs. LAWRENCE BROWN of Ryan called in the afternoon.

JAMES LAWRENCE HALE is the name of the boy born to Mr. and Mrs. LAWRENCE HALE in St. Paul hospital at Dallas, Texas, Jan. 16. Mrs. Hale is the daughter of Mrs. J. H. HENRY.

Wyche Starts 21st Year in Hatchery Business Here
R. E. WYCHE, proprietor of the Wyche Poultry Farm in Ringling, is in his 21st years in the breeding and hatchery business.

Berry Family in Auto Accident
Mr. and Mrs. W. T. BERRY and their two small children, GENEVIEVE, age 3, and JOE WAYNE, age 9 months, narrowly escaped serious injury in an accident six miles west of Ringling Saturday afternoon.

Dundee Boxing Tourney
The Dundee Boxing club is sponsoring its tenth annual tournament Wednesday.. Saturday with 75 boys … Two Ringling boxers, OSCAR BROWN, 175 lbs., and BILL SMITH, 135 lbs., drew byes up to the finals. SQUEAKY HAYNES, 65 lbs., won Wednesday night; TOMMIE ABSHIRE, 118 lbs., won by a TKO. CLETUS WATERS at 136 lost by a TKO; M. L. ALBIN lost by KO. Two other Ringling fighters, JERRY GORE, 95 lbs.,; and MONROE BINGHAM, 118 lbs., will be on Thursday.

Mrs. CLYDE PARKER of Claypool is the new president of the Jefferson County home demonstration council; Mrs. GLADYS LONGEST vice pres.; Mrs. LOIS GRIFFITH secretary and Mrs. CHARLES SMITH, reporter.

HARRY SKEEN, age 11, is in the Crippled Children’s hospital at Oklahoma City for treatment of his right eye that was injured last week with a knife. He may lose the sight of the eye. His parents are dead, but he lives with his brother, JAMES SKEEN, in the Mountain Home community.

WILLIAM DAVID NICHOLS
Colliers funeral home will announce services for William David Nichols, age 76, who died at his home in Oklahoma City Wednesday. He had been ill 11 months. Nichols, a retired farmer from Ringling, was born at Waco, Texas. He was a member of the I.O.O.F., the Baptist church, and Woodmen of the World. While a young man, he witnessed the opening of the Cherokee Strip, later settling at Marietta. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. ERWIN WEAVER, Mrs. JOHN ALLEN, Oklahoma City; Mrs. BOB EDWARDS, Arlington, Va.; Mrs. RAY RAMSEY of Kelso, Washington; four sons, DEE and JEFF NICHOLS of Ringling; ROBERT NICHOLS of McMan, and FRANK NICHOLS of San Jose, California; 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Jo Anne Eakin and Thomas C. Throckmorton were married in a simple ceremony Saturday afternoon at the home of the bride’s parents in the Courtney community. Rev. J. P. SIMMONS read the double ring ceremony. Music was provided by Mrs. A. C. SWINNEY. ..given in marriage by her brother, WAYNE EAKIN… Mrs. JIM WHEELBORGER, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. BILL THROCKMORTON served as his brother’s best man. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. M. EAKIN. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. T. B. THROCKMORTON of Alva. … The cake was served by Mrs. A. B. HALSTEAD of Temple, aunt of the bride. Mrs. WAYNE EAKIN and Mrs. RUEL SAMUEL served the punch. … the couple left for Stillwater where both are students at A. & M. College.

WILLIAM DAVID NICHOLS
WILLIAM DAVID NICHOLS was born at Moody, Texas, Sept. 5, 1872, and died Feb. 2, 1950, age 77. He was the son of DAVE and MARY NICHOLS, moving with his parents to Oklahoma in 1891. He was married to MOLLY PORTER in 1895 and to this union were born DEE and JESSE NICHOLS of Ringling, ROBERT NICHOLS of McMan, Mrs. E. E. WEAVER of Oklahoma City and five others deceased. He was preceded in death by his wife Molly in December 1909. In 1911 he married Mrs. AGNES BURGANY, now deceased. Stepchildren are MARVIN BURGANY of David Dam, Nevada; LESLIE BURGANY of Bakersfield, California, and Mrs. GOLDIE HENSLEY of Kelso, Washington. Children by Mr. Nichols and his second wife are Mrs. ROSA LEE EDWARDS of Arlington, Va., FRANK NICHOLS of San Jose, California, and Mrs. JOHN ALLEN of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; brothers and sisters, JACK NICHOLS of Marietta, CLAUDE NICHOLS of Wilson, ALVER OWENS of Clovis, N. M., and LENA NICHOLS of Roff. Mr. Nichols was active in the Odd Fellows and Woodmen of the World. He was a Baptist. Funeral services were held at the Ringling First Baptist Church Friday with pastor, Rev. E. VICTOR JONES, officiating, assisted by Rev. BIGBIE, former pastor. Interment was at Greenville, Texas.

ELIZABETH ANN WATKINS
Services were conducted at the Methodist church Friday for Mrs. ELIZABETH ANN WATKINS, age 76, who passed away Sunday morning. Rev. J. SIMMONS officiated. Interment was at Petersburg beside her husband, IRVING WATKINS, who died April 19, 1918. They were married July 22, 1893 in Howard County, Arkansas. Mrs. Watkins was born at Camden, Nov. 17, 1873. Her brother, OSCAR L. BRANDON, passed away Feb. 3. She is survived by four sons, JIM, HORACE, IRVIN, and LUIE, all of Ringling; two daughters, Mrs. JEWEL BROWN of Ringling and Mrs. ELSIE ROBERTS of Fillmore, California; a sister Mrs. GRACE TAYLOR of Wichita Falls, Texas; brothers, ARNIE BRANDON of Fort Towson, SIM(?) BRANDON of Coalgate and JOHN BRANDON of Watsonville, California; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Watkins came her from Clarksville, Texas in 1916 and was well known in the community.

WILLIAM P. SMITH
Services were held Tuesday in Wilson for WILLIAM PINK SMITH, age 75, of Ringling, who died Sunday in an Ardmore hospital after a year’s illness. Born in Missouri, he came here from Texas in 1895 and lived in Carter and Jefferson counties since. Rev. G. W. HANKS of Independence, Rev. BARON AWTRY, Ringling, and Rev. GEORGE BYRAM of Healdton officiated. Mr. Smith joined the Missionary Baptist Church in 1905. A bachelor, he is survived by two brothers, JIM SMITH of Ringling and LON SMITH of Ardmore; and a sister Mrs. VIRGIE WOGMAN of Illinois. Interment was at Newport.

MARY LOU DALLAS
Funeral services for Mary Lou Dallas will be held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church here with the pastor, Rev. J. P. SIMMONS, officiating. Interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery arranged by Collier Bros. Born April 12, 1911 in Cornish, Mary Lou spent most of her childhood in Ringling. She attended Ringling school and after graduation from high school, attended Kidd-Key College in Sherman, Texas, and Lady Victory College at Fort Worth, Texas. Since finishing school, she was employed at Las Vegas, Nevada, and Dallas, Texas. Mary Lou returned to Ringling Dec. 25, 1949 and was ill at the home of her mother, Mrs. MONA DALLAS since that time. She died Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Dallas home. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Mona Dallas; sister Mrs. ROMA HAYES of Dallas, Texas; cousins, BOONE WILSON of Ringling and Mrs. MARTHA HOLDER of Odessa, Texas; an aunt Mrs. ALICE WILSON of Ringling. Her father, J. W. DALLAS, preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1937.

NATHAN ALLRED
Another pioneer Oklahoma citizen and long time resident of Ringling community passed away, NATHAN ALLRED, age 86 years nine months, died at his home here Tuesday, Feb. 23, following an illness of two weeks. He had been in poor health for several years. Born in Blount County, Alabama, May 6, 1868, Mr. Allred lived in Texas and Arkansas prior to coming to Oklahoma in December 1890. He settled on a farm south of Ringling and has made his home since. On June 3, 1888, in Ellis County, Texas, he was married to PALONA/PALOMA TAYLOR. To this union were born 11 children, two of whom died in infancy. Besides his wife, he leaves nine children, HARVEY ALLRED of Wilson, Mrs. R. O. DULANEY of Fort Worth, Texas; Mrs. ALICE WILSON of Odessa, Texas; Mrs. MAUD BENNETT of Stockton, California; Mrs. BRADFORD PERRY of Stratford, WAYNE ALLRED of Perryton, Texas; ERNEST ALLRED of Napa, California; Mrs. O. L. PERRY of Oklahoma City, and HERMAN ALLRED of San Jacinto, California. All of whom except Herman were here for the services; 36 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and other relatives. Mr. Allred retired from farming in 1932 and moved to Ringling seven years ago, residing here since. Services were conducted at the Gospel Tabernacle Church Wednesday with Rev. C. L. MCGOWAN of Muskogee officiating. Interment was in the Cornish cemetery directed by Leslie Funeral home.

BETTY ROLAND, senior, was chosen basketball sweetheart of Ringling high school Thursday evening when a supper benefit was held. The proceeds, $139.40 will be used to purchase new gold suits with blue trim for the basketball girls. Candidates: PEGGY HOOSER, 9th; JO ANNE COYLE 11th, WANDA COYLE 10th. In the junior high division, LATRICIA PORTER, 8th, won over MARY ROSE HUDSON, 7th.

EMILY GOLDSMITH
Services for EMILY GOLDSMITH, age 79 years 10 months, were conducted at the First Baptist Church at Ringling Saturday with Rev. BRAZEAL of Waurika officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Born near Shreveport, Louisiana, Mr. Goldsmith moved to Texas with her family in her early childhood. She came to Oklahoma in 1897 and made her home in this section. In 1893 she married THOMAS D. GOLDSMITH in Hunt County, Texas. To this union were born six children, one of whom, a son, died. Her husband preceded her in death in 1938. Surviving are two sons, ELZA GOLDSMITH of Ringling, CLYDE GOLDSMITH of Waurika; three daughters, Mrs. TOM WRIGHT of Waurika, Mrs. LESLIE BRANNUM of Waurika and Mrs. ENNIS AWTRY of Big Spring, Texas; stepson ELMER GOLDSMITH of Cooper, Texas; stepdaughter Mrs. ALMA KEETON of Lubbock, Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Goldsmith was a member of the Baptist Church. She died Thursday at the Waurika hospital.

The home of JAMES SKEEN, northeast of the Mountain Home school, burned to the ground while the family was away. The house, owned by Mr. Johnston, and its furnishings were all destroyed. In addition to his own family, Mr. Skeen was caring for some children of his relatives.

Mrs. ALICE ELLIS
Mrs. ALICE ELLIS of Dillard passed away Tuesday, March 21, after a short illness. She was 77 years old. Born at Comfort Rock, Arkansas, she came to Oklahoma as a child. She married BILL SHEPHERD in 1890. He preceded her in death in 1920. She married M. O. ELLIS in 1924. Surviving are her husband; five children, DOSS SHEPHERD of Wink, Texas; Mrs. HATTIE COOVERT of Lawton; Mrs. ROSE CHAPMAN of Dillard, CLARENCE SHEPHERD of Dillard; and Mrs. DAVE WATTS of Newport News, Virginia; eight stepchildren, BILL SHEPHERD of Magazine, Arkansas; ARTHUR ELLIS of Ringling, CHARLES ELLIS of Lawton, JOHN ELLIS of Longview, Texas; TED ELLIS of Beaver; WINSTON ELLIS of Orange, Texas; Mrs. LOLA STANGER of Davis and Mrs. JESSE T. BATES of Centerville, Tennessee; 26 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church at Wilson.

SARAH JANE BRADFORD
SARAH JANE BRADFORD was born in Kentucky in 1865. When 16 years old, she moved to Palo Pinto County, Texas where she met and married G. M. BRADFORD about 65 years ago. They moved to Cornish in 1892 and lived in this community since. She died Wednesday, march 15, after an illness of about three years. Her husband died in 1933 and two sons preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, J. H. BRADFORD of Cornish; two brothers, I. M. TAYLOR of Santo, Texas; B M. TAYLOR of Cyril, Okla.; four grandchildren, STELLA MAE JOHNSON of Loco, ERVIN M. BRADFORD of Cornish, CHARLES CEPHUS BRADFORD of Cornish, and MARY WHITTINGTON of San Angelo, Texas; seven great-grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday at the First Baptist Church with interment in the old Cornish cemetery.

SAM O. POOL, veterans’ coordinator at Southeastern State College, was named college registrar. … superintendent of Ringling for 7 years and Dundee for 9 years… son-in-law of Mrs. C. M. CAGLE.

The wedding of Miss KATHERINE MILLS KIRKBRIDE, daughter of Mrs. MABELL M. KIRKBRIDE and Dr. H. C. KIRKBRIDE of Germantown, and RAYMON L. HAMILTON of New York City, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. HAMILTON of Ringling, was solemnized in the First Presbyterian Church at New York City on Saturday, April 8. .. Mr. Hamilton is a graduate of the University of Denver, Colorado and served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

Boxley-Blurton
SUE BLURTON of Ryan and WILLIAM BOXLEY of Enid were married in Ryan Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. VICTOR HAMILTON attended the wedding. The bride is a cousin of Mrs. Hamilton.

Mr. and Mrs. GLENN TURNER announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter PEGGY GLENN to DAN HARRIS of Enid.

GRADY DWAINE MEADOWS was born April 3, 1950 and passed away April 7 or 17. He is survived by his parents GRADY and VELMA MEADOWS of Elmore City; sister JENA VENE(?), and two brothers, WILLIA HUEY and LEWIS; paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. M. MEADOWS of Duncan and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. GEORGE IVEY of Wynnewood. Burial was in the Dixie cemetery.

ALVIE GLEN PRATHER
ALVIN GLEN PRATHER was born at Wellington, Texas, June 27, 1924 and passed away April 11, 1950, age 25. He was killed in a truck accident in Old Mexico. Formerly of Ringling, he was living at Corpus Christi, Texas at time of his death. He was employed as a driver by the Transport Co. of Texas, hauling gasoline in Old Mexico at time of the accident. During the war, he served with the Army overseas. He is survived by his father, E. L. PRATHER of Santa Fe, N. M., his mother Mrs. M. F. FRITTS of Seattle, Washington; three brothers, JAMES and JIMMIE of Corpus Christi and CHARLES of Seattle, Washington. His mother and Charles were unable to attend the services. Relatives attending were Mr. and Mrs. DAN SHIPMAN, Mr. and Mrs. JOEL SHIPMAN and six children of Ringling, Mr. and Mrs. BUD WILLIAMS and daughter of Oklahoma City; Mr. and Mrs. J. A. HOWARD, Mr. and Mrs. LEWIS STAMPS, children, and Mrs. LETHA STEELE and son of Burkburnett, Texas; Mrs. AGNES JACKSON of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. LAWRENCE SMITH and sons of Clarendon, Texas. Friends from Corpus Christi were Mr. and Mrs. TRUMAN HUGHES, CURTIS KELLY, GEORGE TOURIST and HERBERT LOCKER. Services were held at the Assembly of God Church Sunday afternoon with interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

M. M. CARROLL
M. M. CARROLL was born on April 15 at the age of 67 years two months, at the house of his brother, JAY CARROLL, in Ringling after a lingering illness of several months. Funeral services were held at the Assembly of God Church Sunday afternoon by Rev. BODY with I.O.O.F. services at the burial in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. He is survived by his mother, JOANNA CARROLL of Ringling; brothers, BOB and JAY of Ringling, ROY of Orr, O. L. CARROLL of Grand Saline, Texas; sisters Mrs. J. B. COLSON of Marietta and Mrs. R. B. PATTERSON of Tulsa. Out of town relatives attending: Mr. and Mrs. O. L. CARROLL, HILTON CARROLL, Mr. and Mrs. GEORGE LITTLE, Mr. and Mrs. HASKELL RAMSEY of Grand Saline, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. MACK CARROLL and JOYCE CLARK of Van, Arkansas; Mrs. V. A. Funeral services for ROBERT EDGAR HENSON are to be held at the First Baptist Church, Ringling, Friday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. E. VICTOR JONES, officiating, assisted by Rev. J. P. SIMMONS of the Methodist Church. Interment will be at Rosehill cemetery at Ardmore. Mr. Henson died Wednesday, June 14, at the Lindley hospital, following an extended illness. He was 75 years and lived in Ringling 31 years. Mr. Henson was born in Montague County, Texas, March 11, 1875. He came to Oklahoma while a boy and lived at Ardmore until 1919, when he came to Ringling. His last occupation before retiring was operation of a home dairy. He was active in affairs for the betterment of his community and served on city council for years. He was a member of the Baptist church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. MAUDE HENSON; sons CLIFF HENSON of Oklahoma City and GRADY HENSON of Ringling; daughters Mrs. C. L. DAVIS of Walters and Mrs. C. B. CARNES of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; four brothers, G. C. HENSON of Shawnee, G. W. HENSON of Pratt, Kansas, O. K. HENSON of Sweetwater, and J. T. HENSON of Greggton, Texas; and one sister Mrs. LAURA ASHTON of Ardmore.

Man Killed in Accident
JEROME WALL, well known Ardmore insurance man, died en route to an Ardmore hospital Tuesday from injuries sustained in a one car collision three miles west of Lone Grove. Wall was alone at the time of the accident which took place at the Bayou bridge.
On Sunday afternoon, TOM ALLEN’S car was badly smashed in a two car collision near Lone Grove, when Allen’s car hit a puddle of water and skidded into the path of a west bound car. Allen received minor injuries.

JOHN ALVIN STAFFORD
JOHN ALVIN STAFFORD, 61 year old barber, died suddenly Wednesday 2 p.m. Mr. Stafford worked as usual Wednesday forenoon at his shop. After lunch, he complained of feeling ill and died soon after being taken to his home here. Born Feb. 19, 1889 in Denton County, Texas, Mr. Stafford came to Oklahoma when seven years old. He lived in the Orr community for 33 years, working as a barber, and moved to Ringling in 1945. He had been in business here since. Survivors include his wife, VENIA; four children, GLENN STAFFORD of Anaheim, California; BERNICE STAFFORD of the home; Mrs. LOUIE BILLINGSLEY of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and Mrs. H. C. CARLISLE of Sumpter, S. C.; ten grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers. One child preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church Friday afternoon with pastor, Rev. VICTOR JONES officiating, assisted by Rev. J. P. SIMMONS.

LON BRUNSON, age 85, and his son, ELLIS BRUNSON, with whom he makes his home in the Dixie community, had a joint celebration of their birthdays, Sunday, July 16. All of Mr. Brunson’s seven children attended except a daughter BERTHA WHITE of Manard, Texas.

Tom Rogers
Funeral services were held Monday at Simon for TOM C. ROGERS. Rev. F. VICTOR JONES officiated, assisted by Rev. CLEVE GAY. Mr. Rogers passed away after an illness of six months at the home of his son near Ardmore on Saturday, Aug. 26. He was 83 years old at time of death. Rogers was born in 1866 in Cherokee County, Texas. In 1890 he married LELA NEWELL. His wife and three of the children preceded him in death. Since his wife’s death in 1940, he made his home with a daughter, Mrs. SHIRLEY TURNER. Surviving children are: Mrs. E. F. GILCREASE, Mrs. E. T. GOTHARD of Rubottom, Mrs. CECIL WALKER of Orr, T.M. ROGERS of Ardmore, Mrs. SHIRLEY TURNER of Ringling. There are 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a nice Mrs. C. C. BALL of Marlow, two nephews, FRANK BRYANT and KARL TAYLOR of California. When a young man, he united with the Baptist church. Pallbearers were his nephews-in-law, JOHN, LOS, and LESTER HERRINGTON, COYLE, CLYDE and WAYMOND NEWELL. Interment was in the Simon cemetery arranged by Leslie funeral home of Wilson.

Mrs. CORA COX
Funeral services for Mrs. CORA MAE COX, age 77, of Ringling were held at the Methodist Church here Saturday with the pastor, Rev. J. P. SIMMONS, officiating. Interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery arranged by Collier Bros. Mrs. Cox died in an Ardmore hospital Friday following a stroke she suffered a week ago. Mrs. Cox was born near Courtney Flats, Indian Territory, Dec. 22, 1872. She married in 1896 to FRANK HELMS. To the union two children were born, one of whom survives, RAYMOND HELMS of Ardmore; the other son, ROY, preceded her in death. In 1909 she married J. C. COX. To this union were born two children, Mrs. GLADYS GROVE of Ringling and Mrs. LOUISE EASLEY of Port Arthur, Texas. There are eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and other relatives. Mrs. Cox united with the Methodist Church in early 1920. She had lived in Ringling many years.

Mrs. A. C. ROUSEY from Los Angeles, California, visited her mother, Mrs. PETE BALDWIN. BILLY MAC BALDWIN returned home with Mrs. Rousey and will stay with her during the school term.

Ryan Oldest Post Office in County
GEORGE W. ANDREWS, who has been checking old records of Jefferson County, says the Ryan post office, under three different names at four different times, is the oldest post office in Jefferson County. Previously it was believed that Red River Station was the oldest, but that was across the river and not in Oklahoma. First established in July 1881, the Ryan post office opened as ‘Baldwin’ with THOMAS BALDWIN as postmaster. Then it was charged to SUGG on March 14, 1886, back to Baldwin on Jan. 23, 1890. The name was changed on July 7, 1892 to Ryan. Fleetwood has the second oldest, established Dec. 2, 1885 with PLEASANT S. HAGY as postmaster. The third was Addington, on Jan. 8, 1886 with JAMES P. ADDINGTON as postmaster. Ryan’s second postmaster, when it was known as Sugg, was ROBERT P. SHORT, and the third postmaster when it changed to Ryan in 1892 was THOMS G. WINDELL/WENDELL.

Mrs. Robinson
Funeral services for Mrs. SYLVIA ROBINSON, age 25, were conducted at the First Baptist Church Sunday 2:30 p.m. with Rev. ROSS L. HUGHES, pastor of the K Street Baptist Church at Ardmore of which Mrs. Robinson was a member for 8 years, assisted Rev. VICTOR JONES. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Ringling. Mrs. Robinson was fatally injured in a head-on collision of two cars early Sunday, Aug. 27, when seven other survived. Mrs. Robinson was born in Ringling, Jan. 11, 1924. Survivors include her husband, THOMAS G. ROBINSON of 211 13th Ave NE at Ardmore; sons THOMAS DEWAYNE and BENNY LYNN; her parents Mr. and Mrs. LEONARD CONNEL and sisters, DEANA and LAVADA CONNEL of Ringling. She married Mr. Robinson, March 6, 1940 at Keller. They lived in Ardmore the past 8 years. Pallbearers: SEXON LONGEST, J. E. NEWMAN, JOE KING, JERRY GOODMAN, HARRY GOODMAN, all of Ringling, and RAY BURNS of Oklahoma City.

Children’s Home Has Large Crowd for Rally Day
Sunday was a big day for Rev. and Mrs. REX WEATHERMAN, superintendent and matron of the Freewill Baptist Children’s Home (Cornish Children’s Home)… The home was established by M. E. HARRIS in 1903, operated as a non-denominational institution for 41 years, during which time nearly 2000 children were received and placed. In 1944 a transfer was made to the Free Will Baptist Church, … the Weathermans have managed the home the past five years.

Mr. and Mrs. H. C. MCCALEB have purchased the BUTLER MCGOWAN property one mile north of Ringling. The McCalebs came from Ardmore.

Mrs. FAL B. FANTOZZIE of 3412 19th Ave., Sacramento, California, writes that she is glad to learn that Ringling has a newspaper and subscribed to it. Mrs. Fantozzie says Ringling is her birthplace.

GENE EARL CARPENTER, age 18, met a tragic death when he came into contact with a live wire while working on a job in California. Services were conducted at the First Baptist Church at Ringling Sunday with Bro. GUYMON, minister of the Duncan Church of Christ, assisting the pastor, Rev. F. VICTOR JONES. Interment was in the I.O.O.F cemetery arranged by Collier Bros. Gene Earl Carpenter was born Jan. 13, 1932 at Ringling and died Sept. 5, 1950. Surviving are his parents Mr. and Mrs. GOBLE CARPENTER of Santa Paula, California; sister MARY LOUISE CARPENTER also of Santa Paula; grandmother Mrs. H. R. HARPER, grandfather D. C. Jolliffs Will Head National Children’s Home in Arkansas
Written by Mrs. RAYMOND JOLLIFF… it has been 13 years since I lived in Ringling, then known as IRENE ESLICK, went to the 11th grade in Ringling, finished 12th at Chickasha… have lived in Springfield, Missouri for 7 years, came there while her husband was overseas during the war… went to the Central Bible Institute for one year…working with the General Council National Headquarters of the Assemblies of God here. After husband returned, he attended the Central Bible Institute for four year…. He will be superintendent of the National Children’s Home of the Assemblies of God at Hot Springs, Arkansas where there are 70 children and 9 workers.

Father of Mrs. Wyche Dies Monday Night
Mr. and Mrs. ROBERT EARL WYCHE were called to Idabel Monday night on account of the death of Mrs. Wyche’s father, S. B. LOVE, who suffered a heart attack. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Love was 55 years old and was retired farmer and stockman. Surviving are his wife, son SIDNEY B. LOVE Jr. of Oklahoma City; daughter Mrs. Robert Wyche of Ringling; two grandchildren; three brothers, ARTHUR, HARRY and ROBERT, all of Idabel. Services were at the Methodist Church at Idabel with interment at the Denison cemetery there.

ALF ANDERSON
Services were conducted Friday at the First Baptist Church at Davis for ALF ANDERSON, age 83, who died Thursday at his home in Ringling. He had been in ill health for the past six months. Rev. F. VICTOR JONES presided at the rites. Interment was at Davis. A native of Tennessee, Anderson moved to Davis at age 21 and lived there until 1940 when he moved to Ringling. He farmed 35 years west of Davis. Survivors include daughter Mrs. J. E. CLURE of Ringling, son CARL ANDERSON of Madill; three brothers, PIKE ANDERSON of Duncan, GEORGE ANDERSON of Tishomingo, and BILL ANDERSON of Davis; and three grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. BILLY JOE WATKINS of Courtney and Mr. and Mrs. L. B. WATKINS and family of Center Point visited Mr. and Mrs. J. A. BROWN Saturday. They cleaned several of the graves at the Petersburg cemetery.

Ellis Rites
M. O. ELLIS, father of ARTHUR ELLIS, died Monday morning at an Ardmore hospital. All of his children were at his bedside. Funeral services were held at Wilson Tuesday.

Former Resident Dies at Long Beach, California
Mrs. W. F. MANN passed away at her home in Long Beach, California, Sept. 13. She was a resident of this community for some years but has no relatives near here except a step-daughter Mrs. A. F. SCHROEDER of Wilson. Other survivors include daughters ADELLE and BONNIE of Long Beach; sons, WALTON and ARTHUR GILLIAM of Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Interment was at Long Beach, Cal.

Renfro Rites
Mrs. WALTER HELMS attended the funeral of her sister Mrs. C. D. RENFRO, held at the Methodist church at Healdton Saturday afternoon. Mr. Renfro died Thursday in her home from rheumatic fever.

NANNIE DULANEY
Services for Mrs. NANNIE A. DULANEY, widow of Dr. JOHN ROBERT DULANEY, pioneer southern Oklahoma physician, was Wednesday at the Ringling Methodist Church. Rev. J. P. SIMMONS presided. Burial in the Ringling cemetery arranged by Collier Bros. Pallbearers: FLOYD, FIELDON, LESTER and SPENCER DULANEY, CLYDE and EARL CUMMINS. Mrs. Dulaney died Tuesday in her home after an illness. She was born in Flower Mound community in Texas in 1868 and lived here since the town was established. One of the few remaining old timers, she lived at the old town of Healdton before she married and was at Cornish when the post office opened. She returned to Cornish in 1899 after her husband’s death. He started his practice at Cornish, practicing later in Ardmore, and was practicing at Burneyville at time of his death. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. ROY YARRINGTON of 3002 La Branch, Houston, Texas; son JOHN ROBERT DULANEY Jr. of 315 1st St. SW in Ardmore; three grandchildren, Mrs. JAMES K. FOSTER Jr. of Fort Hood, Texas; Dr. JAMES HUGH ROLLINS of Pawnee, NANCY DULANEY of Ardmore; two great-grandchildren, SUSZANNE KAY FOSTER and JAMES KINCH FOSTER of Fort Hood, Texas, and other relatives.

First Bale Ginned
The first bale of cotton ginned this year in Ringling was raised by ROY CARROLL who lives in the Orr community.

Obituary
Services were held Monday afternoon at the First Baptist Church for MINNIE JACKSON, who passed away at the home of a daughter, Mrs. DEE CONNEL Sunday. She had been in ill health for some time. Rev. VICTOR JONES, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. J. P. SIMMONS. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Jackson. MINNIE ANN TROUT JACKSON was born Dec. 2, 1871 in Tennessee and died October 1, 1950, age 78. She converted at age of 13 and united with the Baptist Church. In 1938 she united with the First Baptist Church at Ringling. She was the mother of 12 children, five of whom preceded her in death. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. DEE CONNEL, Mrs. LEONARD CONNEL, Mrs. HENRY WRIGHT, all of Ringling, Mrs. MURPHY SPRINGER of Dallas, Texas; three sons, HARLAN JACKSON of Healdton, WILDON JACKSON of Waurika, and JIM DUCK of Ringling; 28 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

JIM LANCASTER, former resident of Ringling, died in Oklahoma City Wednesday. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and two sons. Services will be Friday.

MARVIN SALES was bitten by a dog while playing on the school ground at recess last Friday. The owner of the dog was requested to keep the dog tied up for ten days to be sure there is no danger of rabies. Marvin lives at the Children’s Home and is in the second grade.

Mr. and Mrs. FORREST EDMONDSON announce the marriage of their daughter, BETTY, to Dr. G. E. MCAFEE, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. MCAFEE of Muskogee. They were married Sept. 23 at the home of Rev. VIRGIL TROUT of the Church of Christ at Waurika. They will make their home at Waurika where he is an optometrist.

JOAN COYLE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. EARL COYLE, and HAROLD LESTER, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. LESTER were married at Gainesville, Texas, Saturday, Sept. 26. Harold graduated from Ringling high school last year and Joan is a senior.

Mrs. MAUD DYESS
Mrs. MAUD DYESS of Wichita Falls, Texas, former resident of Ringling, died Wednesday in a Wichita Falls hospital after weeks illness. Services will be at Dixie Friday afternoon. Mrs. Dyess is a aunt of CARRIE COLLIER and HENRY MOSLEY.

HARRY WILSON
HARRY WILSON, 33,full blood Indian, who has worked as a printer at the Ringling Eagle for the past year, died in an Ardmore hospital Monday following an illness of two weeks. Born in McCurtain County, Wilson lived most of his life in and near Ardmore. He was injured while serving overseas in the Armed Forces during World War II. An active follower of the Christian faith, Harry was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He attended Oklahoma A. & M. Technical College at Okmulgee prior to coming here. Survivors include his wife, AGNES; three stepsons, DANIEL LEE GARDNER, BEAMAN, and JOHNSTON WISDOM; stepdaughter LOUELLA FAYE WISDOM; his stepmother Mrs. CARRIE WILSON of Smithville, three half-brothers and three half-sisters. Services were held at his home, two miles south of Ardmore, Wednesday with Rev. JOSHUA WESLEY of Madill officiating. Interment was in the Porter cemetery at Ardmore.

JACK BAXLEY Jr., young Courtney farmer, lost his right hand in a corn picker Tuesday. Operating the machine alone, he tried to unchoke it while still running, losing all but a little finger. GEORGE DAVIS, working nearby, went to the rescue and with the aid of JACK DAVENPORT, and rushed him to a hospital. Mr. Baxley grew up at Courtney but had been employed by the railroad for the past few years, making his home at Denison, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Baxley and two children moved to the farm this year.

Mrs. E. C. GRACE Honored at Dinner on 81st Birthday
A birthday dinner was held at the American Legion Hut in Waurika on Sunday, Oct. 8, to honor Mrs. E. C. GRACE of Ringling on her 81st birthday. Born in North Carolina in 1869, Mrs. Grace moved to Texas at age of one year. She married in 1885. Mr. and Mrs. Grace moved to Ringling in 1908, where he passed away in 1916. She is the mother of eleven children, nine of whom, four boys and five girls, are living. All the children were present for the celebration except on son, JIM GRACE, of Fort Worth, Texas. There are 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Attending were Mrs. E. C. (FLORENCE) GRACE of Ringling, Mrs. ROSE BULLARD, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Wilson Couple Celebrate 60th Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. M. C. STEWART of Wilson, pioneer residents of southern Oklahoma, observed their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 4 with a reception in their home, attended by seven of their nine children. They were married in Ardmore before statehood and lived on one farm in Love County 35 years until 1948 when they bought a home in Wilson and moved there. All but two of the past 60 years have been spent in Love County. They came here in Territorial times, he from Tennessee and she from Texas. They have never had a death in their immediate family. CLOIEZE LESTER and DON DILLARD were married at Gainesville, Texas, Saturday, October 14, by Rev. J. W. SLAGLE, Methodist minister. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. V. LESTER of Ringling. He is the son of TRIXIE DILLARD of Albuquerque, N. M. and D. H. DILLARD of Ardmore. MURIEL FOLSOM, sister of the bride, and JAY WILKERSON of Wichita Falls were the attendants. They will make their home at the A. J. WEBB garage apartment where she will finish high school and he is employed with a seismograph company in Wichita Falls, Texas.

FRANK GRAHAM
Frank Graham, age 56, retired farmer and stockman, who lived most of his life in the Ringling area, died Sunday, Oct. 22, at his home southeast of Ringling, following an illness of four months. He had been in poor health for years. Services were conducted Monday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. E. VICTOR JONES officiating. Interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery arranged by Collier Bros. Born at Hewitt, Indian Territory, June 19, 1894, Mr. Graham moved to Cornish when a small boy. He lived in this section most of the time since. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. L. GRAHAM. He was married Nov. 22, 1917 to BELLE LAWRENCE. To this union two children were born, both of whom survive, ROYCE GRAHAM of the home and Mrs. AARON COPELAND of Fort Worth. There are two grandchildren, SHARON and RAY COPELAND; two brothers, MONROE GRAHAM of Galveston, Texas, and TROY GRAHAM of Santa Monica, California.

Mrs. PRINCE ROBINSON
Services were held Wednesday at the Baptist church at Waurika for Mrs. PRINCE ROBINSON, age 53, who died Monday. Survivors are her husband, daughter Mrs. MATNON BIFFLE of Waurika, son JAMES ROBINSON of Duncan; sisters Mrs. J. A. HARRIS of Sudan, Texas, and Mrs. FINN BURNS of Ringling, a brother FRANK SUGGS of Fort Thomas, Ky., and four grandchildren.

JOANNAH CARROLL Honored on 86th Birthday
On Sunday, Oct. 29, relatives and friends gathered at the home of BOB CARROLL to help JOANNAH CARROLL to celebrate her 86th birthday. There were five generations present including three of her children, 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Present: Mrs. A. J. Doss Relative Killed in Car Accident
Mr. and Mrs. EVERETT DOSS were called to Oklahoma City on account of the death of their nephew, WILLIAM JACKSON, who was killed in an automobile accident in Oklahoma City Saturday morning. Jackson was killed instantly and his wife and baby were injured in a two car collision in Capitol Hill.

Tragic Accident Claims Life of Local Girl
Residents of this community were shocked at the tragic highway death of Mrs. WANDA COLIESE DILLARD, age 17, Ringling high school senior, who was killed instantly Friday afternoon when the car which she was driving overturned 2 ½ miles south of Ringling. Mrs. Dillard, a bride of one month, was returning from a shower given in honor of her sister-in-law, when the car went out of control and overturned several times. Alone in the car, Mrs. Dillard apparently slammed on the brakes and caused the car to go into a roll on loose gravel. Funeral services were held Sunday in the First Baptist Church with pastor, Rev. E. VICTOR JONES, officiating, assisted by Rev. J. P. SIMMONS of the Methodist Church. Pallbearers: CARLTON CUMMINS, JAY WILKINSON, WAYNE WARTHEN, BUD CHAMBERLAIN, BOBBY DOSS, and DON ROSS. Honorary pallbearers; BOB AUSTIN, JOE MORRIS, DEAN COLSON, BENNY VAUGHN, and BILL SMITH. Surviving are her husband Donald Dillard; parents Mr. and Mrs. OTIS LESTER of Grady, two brothers, HAROLD LESTER and JIMMY LESTER; three sisters, MURIEL, BETTY and DONNIE all of the home. Wanda Cloiese was born near Grady, Jan. 4, 1933 and died south of Ringling Nov. 24, 1950. She married DONALD DILLARD Oct. 15, 1950.

WERLINE Services
Services for JOHN ARTHUR WERLINE, age 57, of Courtney, who died of a heart attack at his home Saturday, were held Tuesday in the Belleville Baptist church with Rev. IRVIN NICHOLSON of Duke officiating, assisted by Rev. M. C. BOARDMAN of Healdton. Interment in the Belleville cemetery had the Cornish lodge No. 68 conducting committal services. Pallbearers: BEN DAVIS, L. L. GADBY, S. P. SPIVEY, W. N. BANKS, D. O. MAY Jr. and EARL BLANKENSHIP. Werline was born Sept. 2, 1893 at Petersburg, I. T. and lived in that community most of his life. He is survived by his wife, VIOLA; four daughters, Mrs. BEULAH REED of Grady, Mrs. ADDIE RILEY of Courtney, Mrs. ILA DODSON and Miss MAYBELLE WERLINE both of Duke; four sons, JOHN, ARTHUR, and ODELL all of Courtney, O. M. WERLINE of Franklin, Louisiana; sister Mrs. AVA MABERRY of Pauls Valley; two half-brothers, LOUIS WILLIAMS of Rubottom and WINFRED WILLIAMS of Dillard; three half-sisters, Mrs. RUBY FREEMAN, Mrs. GENEVA TADLOCK and Mrs. ARENA LAIR, of Dillard.

Services were held Thursday at the Gospel Tabernacle for HALLIE DILLON, age 69, who died Wednesday at her home following an extended illness.

Bachman Services at Petrolia
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Petrolia Baptist church for Mrs. OLIVE BACHMAN, age 44, Petrolia resident for 11 years who died Sunday in a Wichita Falls hospital. She is survived by her husband, LEE BACHMAN; two sons and one daughter of Byers; parents Mr. and Mrs. W. T. HARBOUR of Petrolia, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. ORVIE AARON of Cedar Ridge, Colorado; Mrs. RUBY GAY of Ringling, Mrs. V. H. ROBBINS of Wichita Falls, Miss VERA DELL HARBOUR of Broken Bow, and one brother, H. W. HARBOUR of Healdton.

GEORGE BUTLER Victim of Oil Field Accident
GEORGE EUGENE BUTLER, age 21, well known Ringling man, was killed instantly near Healdton Tuesday morning. Butler and another oil field worker, RAY CRABB, age 23, were loading heavy equipment on the truck when the accident occurred. Crabb set the emergency brake and got out of the truck to help Butler. As he stepped from the truck, the vehicle rolled back, trapping Butler’s head between the truck and the steel frame of the equipment. George grew up in this community and received his schooling here. Survivors include his mother Mrs. LILLIE BUTLER of Ringling; father ELMER BUTLER of Weatherford, Texas; five brothers, JIMMY of Snyder, Texas, DALE of Hennepin, ELMER Jr. of Ardmore, ALFRED and WALTER BUTLER of Ringling; two sisters, MARY HELEN MARLEY of Mansfield, Missouri, and Mrs. L. C. JOBE of Oklahoma City, and other relatives. Services were held Wednesday in the Gospel Tabernacle with Rev. TERRY MORRIS officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery of Ringling.

ALLIE DILLON
ALLIE DILLON, born in Missouri, June 19, 1881, died Dec. 13, 1950 at her home in Ringling. She had been in poor health for years, but seriously ill the past two weeks with pneumonia. She came to Indian Territory at age of ten and lived in this community the remainder of her life. She was united in marriage to JOHN J. DILLON and to this union 11 children were born. Mr. Dillon and five children preceded her in death. The children: Mrs. JOHN UNDERWOOD of Tipton, Mrs. M. A. RICE of Waurika, Mrs. R. H. TIPPS of Shamrock, Texas; Mrs. ELZIE NICHOLS of Ringling, Mrs. CLYDE ARNOLD of Ringling (no sixth name listed). There are two stepsons, E. D. DILLON of Duncan and W. B. DILLON of Ringling; 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, JIMMY WADE of Spanish Fort, Texas; MAN WADE of Garber; CHARLES WADE of Ringling; SMITH WADE of Los Angeles, California; two sisters Mrs. EMMA IVY of Alma and Mrs. JOSIE KING of Ringling. Services were held at the Gospel Tabernacle Thursday with Rev. TERRY MORRIS officiating. She had been a faithful member of this church for years. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery at Ringling.

Mountain Home Club Meets
The Mt. Home Home Demonstration Club met at the home of Mrs. LEE SCRIFES Friday, Dec. 8. New members: Mesdames CHARLES COALY, WEBB MITCHELL, J. B. WHISENANT, CLAYTON TUCKER, ROY CROWNOVER, BUSTER MEEK and TURNER PRUITT. Mrs. KNIGHT, music teacher at the Mt. Home school, had fifth and sixth grade girls to sing. Hogue Family Gathering at Courtney
The P. G. HOGUE family set a record Sunday. There are eight children in the family, five married. A family of 24 attended the Baptist church services Sunday, then gathered with a birthday cake to honor P. G. Hogue and son-in-law, A. J. ATKINS, of Borger, Texas. Those present: Bro. I. M. NICHOLSON and a nephew from Duke; father of A. J. ATKINS, PAUL ATKINS and son LEON of Nocona, Texas; R. C. T. LEWIS of Fort Sill; Mr. and Mrs. PETE STEPHENS and sons MAX, TOMMY, and MELVIN IVINS.
