Charles Walker
Jones   Sun Feb 15 15:08:57 1998 Am interested in
finding out information about Dr. James E. JONES. He was my father's
uncle and was of significant support to him. He lived in Hollis, OK in
the 1910's and 1920s.
Also, would appreciate information on Aunt Lee JOHNSON. She was
orginally Paralee Walker, from Polk County, Missouri. She married G.S.
JONES (Dr. JONES' brother). They lived in Cherokee Nation Territory
around 1892-1896. She divorded G.S. and at some time moved to Hollis and
married someone named JOHNSON. She apparently ran a boarding house in
HOLLIS. Her daughter, Murriel JONES, graduated from Hollis High School in
1913. Murriel and her older brother, Walker Bramlett JONES, attended
Bitter Creek School at some point in time. After WWI, Walker JONES,
worked for his uncle, Dr. James E. JONES in Dr. JONES' drug store in
Hollis. Walker JONES is my father and Paralee "Aunt Lee" JOHNSON is my
grandmother. Thanks in advance for your assistance..

My son-in-law, Matt Jones Milligan has had a hard time locating his paternal grandparents. To make matters even worse his mother (Betty Jo Jones, her maiden name) divorced his father (ALonzo Grady Jones, Jr. and then several years later married a Richard R. Milligan who gave Matt his sur name when he adopted him. We have all papers identifying this. We know that his grandfather, ALonzo Grady Jones was born on September 15, 1892 in Hollis, Harmon County, Oklahoma. That he married an Ollie (Olive Marie) McRae from CHildress, Childress County, Texas and that he worked as a Boiler maker for the railroad in CHildress. Other than that we know little else. Not even where he died although we believe that to have been in California. We know that he had two sons. The first was named Weldon Leroy Jones and the second son, Matt's father, was ALonzo Grady Jones, Jr. He, ALonzo Jr, was also 1stLt Naval Aviator during WW II. We know that Matt's father was born on Dec. 10, 1921 and he died on Dec. 15th, 1967. Other than this we know nothing. COuld anyone help? I have written to the "Wiley Post Bldg., 2100 N. Lincoln Blvd.,(Attn: births prior to 1908) Oklahoma City, Ok. 73105. Sending them my power of attorney from Matt, his adoption papers and also a Pedigree chart of what we already know.
Thank you for any help you can afford us. I remain.

I'm responding to an old message so hope you're still there. I'm Coye Mac Jones, grandson of Dr. James E. Jones (deceased 1941) of Hollis OK. I'm the 2nd son of James E. Jones Jr., who passed away on February 12, 1962. My Mother, Nadine McClure Jones, just passed away on December 27, 2008, and I was in Hollis for her funeral so have gotten interested in family history. My cousin, Stephen Millspaugh (great-grandson of Dr. Jones), of Weatherford claims to have lots of family history so plan to be in contact with him. What would you like to know so I can ask my cousin your questions too?

My info on Dr. Jones is on rootsweb.com at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d..., which I updated today. I also posted a file (http://home.comcast.net/~cmptj/Family/DrJEJones_Planning_the...) on my website on Dr. Jones provided to me by a grandson of Dr. Pendergraft, who Dr. Jones partnered with in Hollis Drug, where your father worked as a druggist and your Aunt Muriel worked as a bookkeeper, according to the 1920 Hollis census. I'll try to post some more photos of Dr. Jones today on ancestry.com. Great to hear from you and thanks for replying! I'm trying to figure out what brought Dr. Jones and his family from Missouri to Hollis, do you have any family history that would help me?

To add to my earlier reply message today, I just had email from my brother and we would like to know more family history info on your grandfather, Greenstreet, and your father, Walker, and any history relative to Hollis

Coye, sorry, but I have much less information than you have. My father never talked a about family since his father, Green Street, left Paralee mother, Muriel and daddy in a half-dug out in Indian Territory in about 1897 to marry Mary his second wife. I do know that Dr. Jones helped my dad get started and he also helped his ex-sister-in-law, Paralee as she had a boarding house in Hollis until her death in 1928. Dr. Jones must have been a very special person. Charles

Charles, thanks for your reply. I do know that Dr. Jones and family didn't come to Hollis until November 1900, and they first lived in a house where the now-closed LaVista movie theater was located on Hollis' main street, Broadway, until their large home on E. Jones street was built in 1906. Do you know where the dugout you mentioned was located - maybe Memphis Texas or Hollis? My cousin thinks Dr. Jones and family first relocated from Missouri to Memphis Texas, where older brother Lemuel and family were living, before moving on over to Hollis. From all accounts, Dr. Jones was a bigger-than-life person. He married my father's mother, Lena, after the death of his first wife, Margaret. Lena passed in 1933, and Dr. Jones married a cousin's widow, Florence, who was a wonderful grandmother to my brother and me. Florence passed in 1977 at age 100 and was a very sharp person to the very end. I still plan to put more photos up later today.

Coye,

The half-dugout was near Claremore, OK. Here is what I "think" I know. My grandfather was the blacksheep of the family and struck out on his on.

Now for Memphis, I think Lemuel Jones lived in Memphis. I know very little more other than my dad did live with his different uncles as he got knocked around as a kid. He referred to Olie and Oren, sons of Lemuel, at points in time.
