You are most welcome. Creek County is unique, I'm sure you've read, in that Bristow marriages are kept in Bristow, Drumright in Drumright and the rest of Creek Co. in Sapulpa. Have you looked at the Creek Co. marriage records online? Oh, I just thought, one more place to look is:

http://www.odcr.com Set it to Creek Co. and Marriage licenses. I have had great success using that site to fill in information for divorces, maiden names in marriages, etc. I always use that for my source when I list the Marriage License number too.

Help with marriage records and death records for Creek County

I am trying to locate a marriage record on a B. C. Mosley b. ca. 1901 to a Lettie ?. They could not have married before 1926/27.They lived around Bristow possibly ca. the late 1920's and for sure in the 1930's. Lettie may have even died there. Would like to find information on her death or burial also.
I am also trying to find death/burial information on Frances L. Shipley. She died 3-21-1925 in Shamrock, Creek Co., Ok.
Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for information on Grover Cleveland PAYNE, his wife, and children. He was born 17 Nov 1884 in Caldwell Co., NC, the son of Henry Wilson PAYNE and Sarah Emma HAYES. In 1889 the family moved to Collin Co., TX. Grover died in Creek Co., OK on 9 Oct 1961 and is buried in South Heights Cemetery there. His wife was Era O. BURKETT, born 1889 in TX, died 7 Jul 1947 in Creek Co., and she is also buried at South Heights. They had the following know children:

(1) Ferris Marie PAYNE, born ABT 1911 in Collin Co., TX.

(2) Mannon Eleanor PAYNE, born 31 Mar 1915 in Collin Co., died 17 Feb 1985 in Tulsa, OK. Married J. Clyde STAIGER, born 6 Jan 1906, died 5 Jan 1974. Both are buried at South Heights Cemetery, Creek Co.

I see you have the surname BURT and i was wondering if in your database you have James Francis BURT and or Franklin Doyle BURT. Franklin born 7 May 1920 in Mounds, Creek, OK Harold Bryan BURT, Franklin's father was born in IL March 1897 and died Oct 1946 probably OK. Franklin BURT's mother was Alyce Eunice NEFF. James Francis BURT was Harold's father and he married Janette Frances DRENNAN.

Sand Springs - E(a)rnest Granville McBride

Earnest/Ernest Granville and Laura Bell McBride lived in Sand Springs in the 1920's. Family oral account says Earnest was a sheriff in Sand Springs for some period of time. (He may have been a deputy sheriff.) There is a picture of him with what appears to be a sheriff/deputy-sheriff's badge.

How might I go about confirming (or correcting) that claim?

I was delighted to find the Cemetary and some of the Sears family graves were marked, however, Martha and Williams were not, and I suspect marked only by Sandstones. I would like the correspond with any of the family and relate information. Thanks for the help.

My sister was married to Thomas Ralph Vines from Depew (died 1970 in Ponca City). His father was Ralph Orl Vines, whose father was Thomas E. Vines, married to Effie Huddleston.

Thomas (Tommy) Ralph Vines had one child, a son, Michael Anthony Vines. Mike lives in Texas and has several children, and a grandchild. Tommy's sister, Sharon Kay Johns, recently passed away. She was living in Depew at the time.

Since this isn't my own line, I don't have a lot of information, but I would be happy to correspond.

Kara. I have John O. Titshaw, born 1881, son of John O. Titshaw, born 1848, and mother Nancy Jane Bell. They moved from Georgia to Alabama to Kellyville, Okla. John and Nancy were in their 60s as of 1910 Fed Census. No records after that.

Signed in either 1917 or 1918 - draft registration difficult to read.
Don't know why discrepancy in birthplace between this and the 1930 Caddo
Co. OK census.

The closest I could find was this out of Oklahoma Place Names:
Pollan-In northwestern Dewey county, 5 miles south of Vici. A post office from June 8, 1901, to August 31, 1913. No longer in existence, it was named for Joseph Z. Pollan, first postmaster.
Hope this helps, think you may have either the wrong town or wrong county.

I am also trying to find my grandparents and complete my family tree. I am John G Robinson (livefromwyoming@msn.com) born 1958 in Ok.

My father, Ralph Lee Robinson Born 1935 in Ok.

His father, Roy Robinson born approx 1907 in Arkansas (wife was native american from what I have been told).

Ralph (born 1935 in Blackburn Ok) had an older brother, John Robinson and younger brother Ernest Robinson both men would have been born between 1930 and 1940).

Ralph married, (my mother) Marian Ingels from Ponca City ok approx 1953-55.. Ralph and Marian had seven children and we all moved to California in 1968

The interesting thing is i saw the name "Garland" as one of your Robinsons and my father named me John Garland Robinson, I was born Jan-1958

I found a Samuel A Thomas born 10 Aug 1839 date of death 25 Dec 1928 grave inscription "Father" listed in the Lawson Cemetery, Payne Co OK. I believe it is close to Yale, OK.

I'm working on the Strain Tree. I'm the daughter-in-law of the late Calvin Claude Strain and Dolores Daily. Calvin's father was James Claude who married Esther Murray. According to my information, William Preston died at the home of his wife's parents in Missouri. His first wife (Tommie) had died in 1915 while they still had young children - the youngest being only 10 months old. (She died last year at 91 years of age.) Those children were being raised by family in Oilton, OK; so that may have had something to do with Preston (as he went by) being buried in Oilton. By that time, his brother, John Peden and family (my grandfather) lived in Oilton too, so that was basically the center of his immediate family at that time.

Be sure to stay in touch! Any information that you can offer would be greatly appreciated, and I will do the same. Is there an email address where I can reach you directly? I do have photos, but it will take a little while to round them up!

I have a story very similar to yours. My Dad and Uncle talk of an Aunt or grandma Hattie. they were Cherokee and blackfoot I believe they said. The names you are using sounds familiar. I have been looking for a Hattie for a long time. I will be able to give you more info later if we are able to talk. I was a Robison/Robinson. My father and grandfather were both named Arthur. Maybe there is a connection with those names.

I found a WWI Registration Card for a relative who was a waiter at the Pullman Hotel in 1918 in Sapulpa. He was employed by a man named Anderson.

Does the Hotel or employer sound familar to anyone?

I find William L. Bundy, age 63, widowed, born in Indiana on the 1930 Kiefer, Creek County, OK census. Roll 1900; pg. 3B; Enumeration Disrict: 22; Image: 356.0.
He is enumerated incorrectly as William L. Brady. I haven't found anymore on him but I do live in Creek Co., and will keep an eye out during my frequent trips to the Courthouse and cemeteries.

South Heights Cemetery in Sapulpa is 5 minutes from my house, and I have a digital camera. If you will send me the names that you need, and the approximate location of the tombstones, I'll try to get pictures taken for you this weekend. If digital snaps is ok with you I can just attach the snaps to an email and send them to you....that way there won't be any cost for you. I had a sweet lady from Kellogg, Idaho answer a plea for a picture of my ggrandfathers grave. I knew I'd never get to Idaho but because of her kindness, I got a picture that I truly wanted....so this is my way of paying her kindness forward!

Jimmy Goff. He would be about 60. He dropped out of sight over 10 years ago. His brother Charles who still lives in Inola doesn't know where he went. He took his family with him where ever he's at.

Frank Koonce's wife Ida was my husband's grandmother's sister. This Frank M Koonce's father was James B (Brown) Koonce and his mother was Francis Marian Keyes. I'm looking for information on a Simon Peters born 09/21/1917 in Oklahoma, he was full blood Chickasaw, died 1979 in Shady Point Ok, he had a daughter Lucille who had a son named Jimmy Wayne Peters (Lucille was not married). Jimmy died in 1986, he was the paternal grandfather of my grandson (maternal side) Frankie Peters of Greenville, Tx.
We are trying to establish the bloodline for Frankie. Lucille later married a man named Gutierrez and I'm getting nowhere on getting the info to establish Frankie's bloodline, he is 18 and looks totally native American and we'd be so proud to help him since his Mom also was unmarried, that is why we can't get much help from the Peters family, now that Jimmy is dead, no one seems to know much except he is related to a Lena Orphan of Rava, OK

Amanda was possibly the last daughter of Martha P. Davis, or she could have been the first child of Wm. H. Hobbs and his 2nd wife Mary Isabella McClelland.

Also, somewhere on a message board, someone said that Mary Isabella McClelland first husband "Waddy" or Watty" McClelland was killed by a mule. When did this happen, then we can determine that Mary Isabella married the second time after his death.

I have been trying to find a Frank A. Koontz who was born to Andrew Brown KOONTZ and Martha Jane HARLOW. Frank (Franklin) A. KOONTZ was born in Hopkins Co., Texas around 1860-1861. I do realize the the Frank in Creek Co., OK is said to be born latter and has been listed as being born in MO rather than TX. But I am wondering if this could be my Frank. Frank had the following siblings: Mary E. KOONTZ,Robert Wilson KOONTZ, Sarah KOONTZ, Susan KOONTZ, Martha "Lavina" KOONTZ, Elmira Wash KOONTZ, Charles William KOONTZ, and Lillie Mae KOONTZ. It seems that Frank and Ida Koontz's children may have spelled their name KOONCE. They had a son named Ira who is buried at the old Sapulpa cemetery. Several of their children may have married prior to 1920 and shortly afterwards. Alfred Cornelius Hinckley d. June 15, 1916 in Frisco Wreck

I would be grateful for an OK newspaper lookup regarding the death of Alfred Cornelius "Corry" Hinckley who was killed in a train wreck, supposedly near Vinita, on June 15, 1916. Alfred Hinckley was an engineer for the Frisco Railroad. He and his wife, Ella Maude Knox, lived in Sapulpa at the time of his death. She brought her husband's body back for burial in Springfield, Missouri, her hometown. She and her children, Neil and Mildred, remained in Springfield after the burial at Hazelwood Cemetery. A graveside service for Rowena Mildred Rush, 92, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2008 at Scenic Hills Memorial Park under the direction of Major Family Funeral Home of Springfield. A memorial service was held in Springfield on Saturday, February 23, 2008 for
family and friends in that area. Mrs. Rush died in Springfield on Wednesday February 20, 2008.

The youngest of seven children, Rowena was born to Joseph William and Ida Estella (Gee) Rush in Drumright, Okla., on August 13, 1915. She received her education and grew to
adulthood in Martha, Okla.

She married Daniel Edward Rush on August 5, 1933 in Altus, Okla. They lived in Texas, New Mexico, Halsey, Ore., and California before moving to Ashland in September 1962. During their 62 years of marriage, Edward and Rowena enjoyed working on projects together,
camping, fishing, hunting, and card and domino games. Rowena enjoyed quilting, sewing and crafts.

Mrs. Rush lived her life for her family, friends and church. A member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Ashland for over 40 years, she played the piano and organ, taught Women's Sunday School classes, and spent many hours doing physical labor projects. She was ready at a
moment's notice to go to her children's homes whenever they needed help of any sort.
Rowena's love to all was shown with her kindheartedness and the work she could do with her hands. They were members of the Good Sam's Club.

Mrs. Rush worked out of the home at various jobs as the family needed extra money, including motel work, the cannery in Ashland and Medford, and being a "Rosie, the Riveter" on the Black Widow plane in Los Angeles, during World War II.

She is survived by her son and dauther-in-law, Patrick and Dianne Rush of Springfield; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Duane Dragoo of Medford; sisters-in-law, Dixie Lee
Meeker, Mary Howard, and Lounetta Blair, all of Springfield; grandchildren, Rodney and wife, Paula Rush of Portland, Randine and husband, Roger Doggett of Eugene, Michael Dragoo of Talent, and Brian Dragoo of Medford; and great-grandchildren, Nicole Elise Rush, Patrick
Casey Rush, Lane Alan Doggett, and Deanna "Annie" Marie Doggett.

Laura Barr is enrolled on creek indian card #743 Roll #2445.
Kaura Barr is on the 1895 roll.

Emma Barr was my great grandmother on my mother's maternal side.

My ggf Patrick Pentoney (about 1845, died 1889) lived in Cleveland, Ohio. His father was Patrick also. My ggf had an aunt Mary and uncles Michael, James & John.

I'm quite certain that I must have Pentoney cousins out there somewhere. My ggf was one of the Pentoney brothers who were butchers in Cleveland.

In 1910, Widow Sarah ERWIN was running a small boarding house in Tulsa.
On 16 Mar 1911 she married William BUNDY in Creek County, OK.
In 1920 W.L. and Sarah BUNDY bought Block #9 of the Wills Addition, Kiefer, Oklahoma.
Sarah died about 1929.
William seems to have died around 1934.
I would like to find a death-date, cemetery record, or obituary for William if I could. He was sometimes called Uncle Jim, but I don't know why.
Sarah's ancestry I know.
William BUNDY never shows up on a census as far as I can tell. I can never find any information as to his past before 1910.
All help and advice greatly appreciated.

Researching LUNDY and have one HUDDLESTON in the mix. Nicholas Elmer LUNDY (b abt 1867,IA) moved to OK from NE around 189x and married Nora INMAN. She had a son, Jerry HUDDLESTON from a previous marriage. Jerry is said to have stayed in the area and married (someone much younger than he). Only other info I have for him so far is their 1910 census record in Nowata county, OK, when he was 15.

If you have more about Jerry and his mother NORA (and Mr. HUDDLESTON) I would like to know.

Joseph WELLER (1815-1884) was brn to John Herb WELLER (b. 1787, Berks Cnty, PA) & Susan STAHL.
John H. WELLER was son of Philip WELLER (1754-1828) & Gertrude HERB (c. 1755-1855). Philip's father was Joh. Peter WELLER, who had immigrated circa 1742.

During our country's Great Depression, the Works Project Administration (WPA) commissioned over 100 "field workers" to visit aging Oklahomans who had once been early residents/pioneers of Indian and Oklahoma Territories. The link above is to an interview taken from Sherman ACKLEY in February 1937 at his home in old Keystone, Creek County.

The land donated by Mr. Ackley for the Keystone cemetery has since had its "inhabitants" relocated to the present-day Sinnett Cemetery in Pawnee County.

Mr. Ackley is proud of his white heritage, but incorrect in his statements. I am equally proud to descend from his sister who, in 1879, married a Cherokee in what is now Wagoner County.

POW/MIA Korean War, Creek Co. JONES,MOSES

I am searching for the family of two soldiers who was killed in the Korea War. When they entered service they gave Creek County, Oklahoma as their home of record.

Soldier: ROBERT LOUIS MOSES
Born: 1921
Date of loss: November 29, 1950. MIA

Carl Moore is on the Department of Defense Urgent list. This means that remains have been recovered that Moore is associated with. Family DNA is needed to verify or elimenate him.

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 45 families from Oklahoma that have not been located. There are two families from Creek County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (77 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.

Having a look at census and military for the Shadrick/Shadrach families we know about from Harvey D in NC to Carroll Co VA to Boone Co MO to OK and beyond.

Found a few things that were new to me, but one of you might already know about?

I see that in the World War I Draft Reg Cards for two of our family, Lemuel R Shadrick (son of Mitchell) and Grover D Shadrick (son of Burton) both young men born in MO, now living in Creek County Oklahoma, both working or living in the county seat, Sapulpa OK.

When I search the rest of Creek Co OK, I find what looks to be Mitchell and Burton's brother and his wife and family.
One catch, he is shown as being born in Indiana...can anyone help me identify John W Shadrick and wife, Martha Cook's children? John married Martha in MO.
I highly suspect it is them in the town of Sapulpa, Creek Co OK in this 1910 census. They came from MO to OK same time period as the others. Of course, the place of birth for John W would have to be a mistake by the census taker? All comments or ideas welcomed.

On the 1900 census she is living with her parents and children about 2 miles north of Centrahoma. March 19, 1906 she married Frank A. Ferguson at Phillips Town in Coal County. My grandmother thought she lived at one time in or near Drumright, Oklahoma. Will share what information I have.

jerry carrel huddleston was born to nora inman huddleston on feb 25. 1893 and passed away in nowata, ok on dec 16. 1970. i need to know his fathers name. it might have been william carrel huddleston.
nora`s husband was killed by a rock (accidental or intentional?) in 1898. nicholas elmer lundy married elnora in 1899. they moved to nowata, ok before 1910 and had 3 lundy children by then. jerry is listed as 15 in 1910 but was 17.
jerry was working for a young rancher named h.h. driskill
when h.h. was killed apparently by a horse. jery married the widow mary gowen driskill in 1913 or so and juanita huddleston was born june 10, 1914. that is my wifes mom.
she married and had 5 children, the second child being my wife, mary. elmer and nora moved to be with their daughter anne and died in cleveland, ok in 1938 and 1947.

jerry carrel huddleston was born to elnora edna inman huddleston on feb 25, 1893. i believe his father to be william carrel huddleston whom nora married around 1891. i am not sure but elnora was raised in walker township and was the daughter of marinda and jerry inman. so i am assuming jerry was named after both dad and granddad. i believe that jerry`s dad was killed in 1898. nora then married nicholas elmer lundy in 1899. (where?)
they moved to indian territory which became ok and located at nowata.
jerry was working for h.h. driskill about 1912 on a ranch when h.h. driskill was killed by a horse. jerry courted the widow mary alice gowen driskill and married her. their first child was juanita goldie huddleston who married floyd crupper and my wife, mary is one of their children.
so jerry helped raise two driskill boys and fathered 5 more huddlestons. his wife died in 1948 and jerry lived to 1970.
nora and nicholas lundy raised 3 lundy children in addition to jerry. nick died in 1938 and nora in 1947 in cleveland, ok.
i hope you answer and we can do research together. i am looking for jerry`s ancestors.

Second Addendum to earlier message: We have a letter written in 1939 by an ancestor James Riley, at the address c/o J. R. Covington. James Riley worked in the oil fields of Oklahoma and is found on the 1900-1930 census with quite a large family. His first wife was Alice form Arkansas with children, Eva, Etta, Charles, Lena, Flossie, Nellie, James; then he married Minnerva and had a daughter Doris. Addendum to earlier message: James A. Riley is also found on the 1930 census in Creek County, but married to Minnerva. Of interest, James wrote a letter to his brother dated 1939 from Baton Rouge, Louisianna, c/o J. R. Covington. He said he had a wife and a son age 20. James' youngest son, also named James, would have been in his early twenties at that time. There were Covingtons in Creek Co. at this time, so perhaps there is a connection. I am looking for information on the Dickey family that would have lived in or around Mannford in the early 1900s. Ethel (Judy) Dickey is the niece of Pawnee Bill Lillie, born in 1889 to Effa May "Effie" Lillie and William Henry Judy. She was born in Illinois and lived in Oklahoma from 1905 onward. Her husband was a man by the name of Charles Dickey. They would have lived in Mannford until after the birth of a child, probably a still born. After this child was born, the family moved to Oregon and settled there.

This is the information that I have from a secondary source and I'm not sure that it's all correct. If anyone knows anything about this family or has come across the Dickey child in a Creek County or Pawnee County Cemetery, it would be greatly appreciated for the information.

Edward left Texas approx 1922. He never returned to Texas that we know of. The grandchildren of this man are looking for his burial place there in Drumright. Mama (Margaret Elizabeth Gillentine b.30 Jan 1914 in TX)and her older brother (James Russell Gillentine b.ca.July 1912, also in TX) both went to school there for nearly 5 years,but I do not know the name of the school.
Another sister (Lola Pearl Gillentine was b.27 Mar.1919 in Shamrock,Creek Co.area.

Their two younger siblings (Georgia Rita Gillentine and an unknown named infant sister)both died during the huge influenza epidemic of ca.1918-1921. I need to find their birth and/or death and burial records or any info on the family.
Thus far,I have not been able to find anything from the Shamrock,Creek Co. area.

The parents were: James Alfred Gillentine b.May 1890 in Tupelo,Itawamba Co.MS.He was,according to Mama,a "supervisor"in the oilfields..which I think is the same as a "Driller" although I could be wrong.

His wife was: Liddie Ann Pringle Gillentine, b.27 Mar.1888 in TX.,the dau.of Mathew James Pringle and Margaret Tabitha Blanton Pringle.

Burial practices in the 1920's

I am looking for the burial location of a family member who lived at Sapulpa OK and died in 1927. I believe he may have been suffering from syphilis and was given malaria by a doctor. This was a cure which was practised at that time to treat syphilis, however in his case, it killed him. Does anyone know where a resident of Sapulpa might have been hospitalized for this type of illness? Did they have to go to an asylum? Were there restrictions about the burial of someone who died with an STD in those days? I cannot find any record of his death or burial and would appreciate any help.

I am so grateful to each of you for your help in my search. I am at work and do not have my notes here, but I did find an "Ercell Jackson" who died in 1934. I believe he died in a mental institution which could be consistent with having had syphilis. The question is, was my father told his dad had died when he really was institutionalized? Daddy was always very clear that his father died in 1927. A newspaper notice with an obituary would be very helpful, but if there was secrecy, it would not have been published. Lewis & Landrith funeral home shows Ercell Jackson having died in 1934 and the birthdate matches. How would I obtain copies of the funeral home documents? Thank you again.

Thanks for replying. His name was Ercell Forest Jackson, born near Bolivar MO. I believe he was around 25 years old when he died in 1927. He had been living in the Sapulpa area for at least 10 years because my dad was born there and Daddy was 10 when Ercell died. I do not know the month or day of his death. He and his brother, Odie, were oil field workers. Their parents were Thomas Jefferson Jackson and Mary ? Jackson. Odie died of burns suffered in an explosion at a refinery. Not sure of the date. They had a sister named Elnora.

The best that I can tell you is to go to the Oklahoma State Health Board in Oklahoma City and that's where you can get a Death Certificate or a Birth Certificate but it will cost you. I had to pay $10.00 to get my Birth Certificate but that was from Tulsa. I do know that all the important papers like these are in the Captial. I called Tulsa's Board of Health to see if my Birth Certificate was at Tulsa or Oklahoma City and was told that it was in Tulsa. I was also told that one can do it by mail but could maked copies of the forms on line. Good Luck, JN

I found your family in the 1920 census, living in Shannon twp which would be where Shamrock is located. It shows them on the Castis (sp) Oil Co. Lease, next to an Oklahoma Natural Gas Lease. Alfred is an Oil Engineer, with his wife Liddie, son James R. 7 born in Tx, Maggie E. 6 born in TX and Lola P. 9/12 born in OK.
I found no burials matching the last name in Shamrock, but since they were living on an Oil lease, there is no telling exactly where in Shannon TWP they were, and could be in one of the following places: Drumright, Bristow, Depew, or a family plot out in the middle of no where.
If they did go to school in Shamrock, in those years before 1930, they would have been in the Old Ward aka Liberty Ward school, there are pictures of it on http://shamrockok.com
After 1930 that school was torn down and a new elementary built.

I believe this John to be related to my Bowers line. I am looking for John Wesley Bowers who married Martha Elizabeth "Lizzie" Fox in Sebastian Co., Arkansas. John Wesley was born in Indian Terr. Our family in Australia was told that a minister of religion, named Steepe visted the STEEPE family some time around 1950-60 in Shepparton, Victoria, AUSTRALIA. I have a Louisa Pasche Boyles and a Sarah Boyles and a George Boyles in my ancestry although I'm not a direct descendant of them. They are in my family tree by marriage. They were the children of Phillip Boyles and Drucilla Agnes Nixon. They were from Lawrence county Alabama originally and then they moved to Franklin county Arkansas. Sarah and her brother George later moved to Creek county OK. Their parents died in Arkansas.

I don't know what happened to Louisa Pasche because her marriage to my gg-uncle, David Henry Matlock, was very brief and ended in a divorce and they both married other people.

I do know that Sarah married another gg-uncle of mine named Robert Orlen Matlock. He was the younger brother of David Henry Matlock, Louisa Pasche's first husband. (Robert Orlen later also became my father's stepfather after Sarah died.)

Sarah died in 1915 sometime in the night following the birth of her seventh child. She died near Depew, Creek county OK. She is buried in a small country cemetery called Hall cemetery located about 12 miles north and three miles east of Stroud, Lincoln county OK. (I am not sure but I think the cemetery is in extreme western Creek county, though.) Her husband is also buried there.

I know this will probably confuse you more but Pasche and Sarah's brother George married my gg-aunt on my mother's side of the family. His wife's name was Veter Willingham. She was the daughter of William Madison Willingham and Margret Martin. George and Veter are buried in the Shamrock cemetery near Shamrock, Creek county OK.

I also have a Newland in my family tree. My uncle Floyd William Matlock married Edna Mae (Eddie Mae) Newland in the mid-1940's in Bristow, Creek county OK. He is deceased but she is still living. Uncle Floyd died in August 1966 of severe burns that he received at an oil well fire near Gypsy, Creek county OK. Aunt Eddie Mae is quite elderly now in her 80's. She is now living in a nursing home in Stroud, OK. She is the daughter of Frank Newland and Ora Lee Goad.

These two died in or near Sapula on May 23, 1908. They were supposedly crossing a swollen creek on a horse when they both drowned. Flora Josephine Klein was approx 16 years old and her brother (William Steven) was a mere 14 years. What a tragedy. Does anyone know where there might be a newspaper clipping on this tragedy? Is the Charles Brewer noted the son of Walter and Opal Brewer? I think that my maternal grandmother, Pearl Brewer (Sullivan), may be related to this line. Pearl was from Salpulpa and had a daughter, Lorene, when she was around 19 years old. She likely was not married. She left Salpulpa for Ponca City in the 30s. Thanks anyway. For all these many years no one knows were Thomas Jackson Holland is buried. Family info is that he was killed by a train. Was never specific if he was on the train or on the track. The timing of this accident was consistant with time period.

My name is Dale and I had an Aunt Margie (Lyons) that married Ivan "Ivy" Oliver Stidman. Margie's middle name may have been Jane, but my cousin (now gone) didn't remember. They had a daughter Velma. But on 1918 WWI draft registration Estell Lee is living at Drumwright on Star Route 1 with his father; his twin Emmet Schley is living at Drumwright, Creek Co., OK also but cites his nearest relative as his mother, Nancy E. Bailey (who was the daughter of Henry W. KIMBLER and Margareth Elizabeth SIMMERS), living in Stanley, Pushmataha Co., OK.
I cannot find Emmet on 1920 or 1930 census (maybe on 1930 census, but that Emmet with spouse Emma says his mother was born in KY and she was born in Texas, so...) So I was hoping that someone might have other Creek Co records on Emmet Bailey to point me towards?

I am new to ancestry and just noticed your entry. I am the great-grand daughter of Bert Mortermer Jones who arrived from London, England in 1909. He became a druggist in Tulsa, OK and, according to oral history, was the first druggist in Tulsa to open a 24 hour drug store. As far as I know, he was married twice: first to Mattie Cannon, and then to a Native American woman named Marguerite. According to my grandmother, who is now deceased, the KKK compelled Bert Mortermer to marry Marguerite. Bert Jones had two children: My grandmother, Billie Bert (b. 1917 and who was issue from the first marriage), and then Bert, who was the adopted son of the second marriage. If there is anyone who knows any info about the family of Bert Mortermer Jones in the US or family he left behind in England, such information would be most appreciated.

POW/MIA Korean War, Creek Co. JONES

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Creek County, Oklahoma as his home of record.

Soldier: CARL RAY JONES
Born: May 21, 1929, Caucasian
Date of loss: December 3, 1950, Missing in Action

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 46 families in Oklahoma that have not been located. There is one family from Creek County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

The cemetery may have been purchased by a private party. That happened with one half of the North Cem in Drumright, OK. If you'll contact any Funeral Home in the Sapulpa area, they should be able to help you.

I looked at some family history last evening. Our line of Pentoneys comes from a Michael born in 1918 down a couple of generations to Howard Alvin who married Florence DeMille. Their son Howard A. Jr., was my father-in-law.

Deana, I tried sending an e-mail but I must not have read your e-mail address correctly because it bounced back. I do not have burial information for Sarah but thought you might be interested in this item from "The Cassville Democrat", an early newspaper from Barry County MO. (I found the information about the website with these early newspapers at the Barry Co. MO rootsweb message board.) I feel about 99.9% certain that this is Sarah's first husband, John Erwin. John, Sarah and Amanda were living in Exeter township in the 1900 census. John's birthddate was given as Feb. 1853, so the age is about right. From the newspaper dated Saturday, April 4, 1908:

John Erwin's Death: The Berryville, Ark., Progress says of John Erwin's death: A sudden death from heart disease occurred in Polo township at Fred High's resident, Saturday evening. John Erwin, a nurseryman from Exeter, MO, drove up to Mr. High's gate and got out of his buggy. A few moments later Mr. High noticed that he had fallen down and ran to his assistance. He mumbled a few words about being killed and was dead in a few moments. Mr. High represented Erwin's nursery in this county. Deceased was 54 years old and was a highly respected citizen of Exeter. His remains were shipped there Sunday evening for burial.

Being that he passed in Depew, there is no current Depew paper most information is published in the Bristow papers. I will check in Bristow today, but since his services were in Davenport the obit may be there as well. I think the funeral home can help you if that is the case.

They were born Baumgardners. I have even posted asking for information on the Baumgardners message boards. But I have decided that my family just apeared on the earth with my great grandparents. Obit for Vicki reads: "Vicki B. McNan died August 21, 1997, in Bristow, at the age of 67. She was born September 10, 1929 at North Concord, Vermont. The daughter of Harland and Goldie (Baird) Lynaugh. After growing up in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, she joined the Air Force in 1949. She met her husband, Jack, while working in the Pentagon in Washington, D. C. They were married on July 17, 1950, in Washington, D. C. After their discharge from the service, they made their home in Bristow, where they raised their family. She was a homemaker.

She loved to read, a passion she passed on to her family. She also enjoyed traveling, sewing, dancing and geneology. Some of her fondest memories were of motorcycle trips and trips to Hawaii and Vermont.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jack, of the Bristow home; two daughters, Patti Sweatt of Kilgore, Texas, and Sandra Keeth of Saratoga, Wyoming; one son, Bill McNan of Kellyville; three sisters, Albertie Eldred of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, Nichols of Windsor, Vermont, and Irene Bishop of Concord, Vermont; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Archie Lynaugh, and one son, Robert McNan.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. August 26th at Hutchins-Maples Funeral Home with Bro. Quint Miller officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Allie Brown Jones Memorial Libirary in Bristow.

(This was published in the Bristow paper but I'm sorry...there's no date on it).

Thank you for your posting. It's been very helpful. So, Allen Whitwell was born Lewallen and his mother was Parthena, not Pastina. Allen married CF Moss who was known as Fannie. My mother and aunt remembered that. They also pointed me to some letters and stuff with my grandparents things. There are letters to and from a lady named Royletta who was working on the family lines.

Apparently, Allen and his brother fought on different sides during the Civil War and then lived as neighbors in Rains Co. , Texas after the war.

Parthena Moore married Holman Whitwell. Holman was supposedly the son of Robert (Nancy) who was the son of Thomas Whitwell who came from England..

"A Letter From Oklahoma---I thought I would write you a few lines about the country here in the Creek Nation. This is the 14th day of June and corn is in silk and tassel and cotton is two feet high. Fine grass and plenty of it, the country looks like a meadow; grass in the woods is over two feet high. Garden truck grows rapidly here, we had new potatoes the 15th day of May. Beans, turnips and radishes in abundance; we will have water melons on the Fourth of July. This is a healthy county to live in. This is a great cattle raising country. In Oklahoma, about a hundred miles from here, wheat harvest is over. We do not raise wheat in the Creek Nation. Millet, Kaffir corn does fine here. I am working for a man by the name of Baker, he lives eight miles north of Bristow on Skeeter Creek. he has 75 acres of corn, 30 acres of cotton, and timber, water and rocks a plenty. Thank you so much! That is amazing! I am so grateful to know my great, great grandparents' names, Allen and Fannie. And that my g, g, g, grandmother was Pastina Whitwell.

I am just amazed at how quickly you got back to me with so much information.

Claude Blevins Whitwell married Hattie Eugene Kellum in 1910 in Whichita Falls, TX. They had four children, but my grandfather Osco Lamar, born January 22, 1914 was the only one to survive into adulthood. Actually, he and his mother are the only ones who survived the 1918 influenza epidemic.

Osco Whitwell married Bonnie Belle Jeffreys in 1936. They had 5 children, Jean Lanora, Jimmy Lamar, Janice Lon, Jera Lynne, and Randal John. Janice died at about 21 years of age. We're all out in California, except my mother Jean who lives in Arizona now.

I don't know the details of the Naifeh family, but all I know that they were a notable family in Marjeyoun, Southern Lebanon just under the Mount Hermon, and they are a branch of the Nabar clan of Jordan, a well known and very noble Christian clan.

The obits could not be found in either the Bristow or Depew papers, but I did find that they are both buried in the Bristow City Cemetery:
Brown, James 0-0483-007
Brown, Mary 0-0483-006
plots were purchased on 1-28-1920 by B.J. Brown
When you pull into the cemetery (next to the armory) you will pass 2 intersections, the first is very close to the gate (two plots wide) the second is 6 plots wide, when you hit the 3 section (before the 3rd intersection) you go to about 3/4 of the way down. On your left side is where they are buried. This section is 9 plots long, 4 plots wide. So, you'll go down 7 plots, then walk 3 plots over and there they are. I have not gone to see if they have stones, I'm looking at my map of the cemetery.

But, what I meant was what Exactly are you wanting to know, do you need his obit, do you know where he is buried, etc. "Wanting Information" is a very broad request and can end up with someone looking up something you already have. I don't mind helping, and do have a trip to the library planned next week, but don't want to just find things you already have.

Sarah...August 28, 2003 I emailed you the information on the newspaper article concerning little Veda. It was contained in the Depew Independant, dated September 9, 1921. It reads: "Little Veda Hankins died at 1:00 o'clock at a hospital in Bristow Thursday morning and was buried in Bristow cemetery in the afternoon.

Mr. & Mrs. Hankins once lived here where Veda attended school. She was a favorite among her little playmates and teachers and all are sorrowing now that little Veda is with them no more.

Veda was in her eleventh year and had been sick about two weeks when the message of death came.

A number of friends and relatives from Depew attended the funeral."

Sorry you haven't been able to find where she's buried. No other information was given in the newspaper article.

My Grandfather was Osco Lamar Whitwell. He was born to Hattie Eugene and Claude Blevins Whitwell on January 22, 1914 in Milburn, Oklahoma. A short time later, the family moved to Texas. I think the Wichita Falls area. Osco was one of four children, but was the only one who lived to adulthood. His father and some siblings died in the great influenza epidemic of 1918.

Do you know anything about this family line? My Grandpa passed away in 2002 and this is as far back as any of us know about this branch of our family.

I am uncertain of the town. I only have the Census info to go by.

I do know Margaret "Peggy" Hensley Clark was born 9/20/1870 in Clay Co. Ky.

The date I posted was her father's birth and death date.

Her father Benjamin was killed 12/24/1895 near Red Star Ar. He is buried at the Radford Freewill Cemetery.

I am descended from Margaret's sister Ibby.

I find Lee and Margaret living in Dallas Co. Texas 1900.
They are living in Creek Co Oklahoma 1910.

I believe they were possibly in California in 1912 as Margaret's mother Margaret Hensley died at Bakersfield Ca. 5/1912?.

They were in Oklahoma in 6/1914 as my ggrandmother died and my ggrandfather Solley Hensley went to stay with his aunt Margaret.

Family history states Margaret had several children. Benjamin, Annie, and another daughter.

Margaret "Peggy" Hensley Clark's mother was Margaret "Peggy" Holland Hensley and her mother was Margaret "Peggy" Hensley Holland.

If you are interested I have a bunch of stuff on Benjamin and Peggy Hensleyand their children. I am trying to locate descendants. They seem to have vanished after 1910-20.

I am looking for an obit and the gravesite of Veda Carmelita Hankins. She was born 11 Jul 1910 in Depew, and died 8 Sep 1921 in Bristow. I have reason to believe that her grave is unmarked. I recently found her father's gravesite in TX and it was unmarked. I have a copy of her death certificate and the funeral home listed no longer exists. I visited Bristow a few years ago and could not read the photocopies of the newspapers they were of such poor quality. I contacted a funeral home someone suggested with no success. Any suggestions?

If you know the date she died, the Sapulpa Library has the past newspapers from where it would have been announced by the funeral home.
If not, there are people there that could help. Some of the obits they have is filed by name. They also charge 25 cents for a copy of it.

Looking for evidence of death date and burial place of Syntha (Cynthia) BROWN. She is recorded on the 1900 census, age 53, in Bristow, Creek Nation, Tshp. 16, with her husband James G. Brown. By 1910, James is recorded in Seminole with a new younger wife and a child age 6, which, according to James' obit. in 1930 was the child of the new wife. No mention is made in the obit. of Syntha. We assume she died sometime 1900-1903. Another researcher has indicated James and Mary, the new wife, were married within Indian Territory, so it is assumed Syntha died there. BTW, James was a Church of Christ minister in Seminole, and is listed as minister in 1900.
Any assistance appreciated.

I do not know the date she died or even the year...I do know she was born in 1952 or 53 and her parents were Bob & Pearl Harwood, Kellyville,OK Ellen may have remarried and be listed as Ellen Wilson..I do know she was working at The Liberty Glass Co. in Sapulpa when she had a brain anuism or something like that and had to be hospitalized. She died from that incident and I don't think it was long after it happened but not sure. If I had to guess I would say it was in the 1970's but I do not know for sure...Is ther anyway I can get a copy of her deather cert. if I do not know the year of her death? Can someone check Creek Co., OK cemetery books for Charles H. FREELING(b. abt. Nov 1872) & Eula T. (CARTER) FREELING(b. abt. Nov 1876). They where living in Sapulpa on the 1930 census; and when Eula's brother dies in 1934 she's still living there. Thank you for your help.

I searching for information on Smith family that lived in Sulpula around 1920. Mary's parents were John Seigel Smith and Sarah Sigmund Smith. Brothers are Charles H., William R., Roy Smith, and John W. They also lived in Lincoln Co. Ok.
Mary married Homer D. Griffin and they had a son Kelly Griffin. It is said that Mary and brothers William and John later moved to the Long Beach, Ca area. Any inforamtion will be greatly appreciated.

Ella Welch

Looking for death and burial information on Ella Welch. I find her living in Drumwright in 1920 as Ella Johnson. In 1930 I find her in Creek County as the wife of W. Welch. Know she was living in 1943, probably died about 1950. Her maiden name was Boatman and she was born in Missouri about 1875.

Her obit is probably in the Mannford, Okla paper if there is one. I do not know where or what paper my copy came from.

Mrs. Kate Henson Dead
Mrs Kate Henson, aged 65 years,
died at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. James Silas Butler four miles
northwest of Mannford Monday of
heart diease.
The funeral services were conducted
at the home wednesday morning at
ten o'clock.
Funeral arrangements were in charge
of the Hominy Funeral Home. Interment
was made in the Blackburn cemetery
in the family lot.
Obituary
Laura Ann Kathern Copple was
born April 18, 1868, in Lynn county
Kas. She was married to Benjamin
Curtis Henson April 8, 1885 at
Blackburn, Oklahoma.
Deceased was the mother of twelve
children, eight of whom are living.
They are W. P. Henson, Purcell; W.
A. Henson, Mannford; W. B. Henson,
Oklahoma City; B. C. Henson, Tulsa;
Mrs Dollie Mae Beaver, Maud; Mrs
Pinky Marion Hancock, Longview
Texas; Mrs Dorothy Avis Herrington,
Tulsa, and Mrs Katie Butler, Mannford.
In addition to these one sister, Mrs.
Francis Marshall of Hominy, fourteen
grandchildren and one great grandchild
survive.
She died March 12, 1934

In the obit I have they have her marriage date wrong and they spell Aunt Miriam name wrong.
Pinky was a nickname.

I will see what I can find this week or next. I need to go down and so some more indexing anyway, so I'll just do 1920 and 1921 next time I'm there. I've done scattered years as I've looked for others. A lot of those photos were put into the Depew Centennial Book 1901-2001.
I will email you what I find from my email of either ancestryfarmer@gmail.com or bluerose68@gmail.com just so you know who to watch for.
