I hope the address is correct. I will check. However the name is now Oklahoma Forensic Center and it is for the criminally insane who are sent for evaluation or committed as not guilty by reason of insanity. The mental hospital no longer exists. I personally live in Vinita. I would suggest you check with the state of Oklahoma Department of Mental Health. You can find out how to contact that department through the State of Oklahoma website.

Mental Records Dept.
P.O. Box 90
Vinita, OK 74301

Be sure to state your relationship to whoever you ask about and remember they don't give medical info without a doctor's request.

They should be able to help. I recently got my Ggrandmothers information, there is process you have to go thought but it was worth it. Hope this helps.

Either of us would be very glad to share the info that we have collected on the family. Frances doesn't get online very often, but I can answer any question that you might have about the family.
I have been researching Wilkinson for some time. Am the author of Deadly Affrays, the Violent Deaths of the U.S. Marshals in which Wilkinson is mentioned. He served as a deputy U.S. marshal in Ft. Smith,Ar, Muskogee, OK as well as Vinita, OK for a period of 40 years. His son, James C. Wilkinson may have been a deputy marshal in McAlester, OK during the 1920's and 30's. I would be interested in corresponding with any of Wilkinson's relatives. If you are so inclined please get hold of me.

Robert R. Ernst
361 60 Rd., Ponca City, OK 74604
580-761-6323 (cell)

Hi, friends, I was born and raised in Vinita and live here now. I know the corner near Afton that is spoken of here, but Spavinaw has had a sawmill. My sister and brother-in-law lived in Spavinaw 2 different times in the last 10 years before he passed away. I will email her about this. I do know that she has mentioned a sawmill there before.

Spavinaw is about 25 miles from Vinita, located on Grand River. I think that is Delaware County, county seat Jay, Ok. not Mayes County, county seat Pryor.

I don't know the people mentioned but went to school with a Celia Rodman in Vinita, she probably graduated 1965 or 66.

On Highway 60-66 less than a mile west of Afton, OK is what is called Sawmill Corner. That is southwest Ottawa county. However that is far from Spawinaw Creek which is northern Mayes county. You might find something on the Spavinaw Creek area by finding information on the building of the Grand River Dam in 1938-1939.

Yes, this is my relation and adds some more facts about him to my family tree. Also this record shows that his son, Robert pre-deceased him.

Very many thanks for finding this info' for me.

Obit Request: Commissioner Charles H. Mason, d. 1894 at Vinita.

Could someone please look-up the obituary of Charles Holland MASON (1826-1894)? He was born August 9, 1826/7 in New Hampshire; and died in June 1894 at Vinita. In 1890, he was appointed by President Benjamin HARRISON to be a commissioner for the Indian Territory. He had previously lived in Perry County, Indiana. He was a widow at the time of his death; he had no children.

I have hit a brick wall in my maternal ancestry research and MASON'S obituary may offer some clues. MASON was a lawyer and apparently well-to-do. I imagine he left behind a lengthy obit.

I would gladly pay anyone to search for MASON'S obituary. I don't need a photocopy, text will be fine.

Sincerely,
Jesse Stamper
Leecorydon(at)juno.com
