Spavinaw Creek lies mostly in Mayes County, OK. See this link (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~okgenweb/pioneer/ohs/smith...) for some perspective on the area in the late 1800s. The link is to my great grandmother's Indian Pioneer Paper interview, but there are plenty like it available online that tell similar stories.
