Roy Sr. and his daughters Wanda and Marge moved to the California Central Valley, where my father was born in the early 40s. I know so very little about the family's life and lineage in Tupelo and would be so happy to hear from anybody who might have known this part of the family.

NEVER sell your rights to your minerals. If someone wants them, tell them you will LEASE them. That way, you and your heirs will get an income if they actually recover any usable minerals from your land. I doubt they are looking for coal, though. Where I live, just a few counties north in McIntosh, they are drilling for natural gas.

Westfall/Harden/Driskill/Singleton and more of Coal Co.

Some time ago I sent a message to this list asking for help on a brick wall of mine. Meanwhile I have been able to collect more information, but unfortunately haven't been able to scale that wall. The mystery is as follows:

My father Charles Monroe WESTFALL was born in Centrahoma December 16th, 1936. His parents were Frank P WESTFALL and Edith DAVIS. Frank was born 1914 in Hugo in neighboring Choctaw Co. His parents were Monroe James WESTFALL and Pearlie HARDDEN. While I have the Westfall side worked out quite well, it is Pearlie who gives me a headache.

Family lore has it that Pearlie was raised by Frank and Lou TYLER. After Frank was born in 1914, he may have had a twin sister, Jewel, who is said to have died soon after birth. Pearlie is said to have either left the family or passed away soon after Frank's birth. Frank, as his mother, is said to have been raised by the Tylers.

Here are the facts:

According to census information Pearlie was born about 1893 in Indian Territory. In 1900 she was living with Frank and Lou Tyler in Ozark, Polk Co., AR. Her last name is given as GYDEN. The Tylers originally were from Missouri. In 1910 the Tylers had moved to Bryan, Coal Co., OK. Again, Pearlie was living with them. Her last name is given as HALDING or KALDING. In 1912 Pearlie married Monroe WESTFALL, the marriage record has a different anem again: HARDDEN.

Monroe's WWI Draft Registration Card states that he was living in Tupelo, Coal Co., OK and that he was married with one child. The 1920 census has him as a widower living in Bryan with the family of his brother-in-law Charlie DRISKILL (married to Lula WESTFALL) (more info). Soon after Monroe married Leoma LAFEVER. He died in Centrahoma in 1934. The Tylers were still living in Coal Co. in 1930, but neither the 1920 nor the 1930 census reports list my grandfather.

I have two undated photos of Aunt Lou TYLER as an old woman (1940s/early 50s?). One has "Aunt Lue, Mother Jean and Billie" written on the back. The other is Lou with my grandmother Edith and an unidentified woman. I'll gladly share the photos with anyone interested.

Just yesterday I worked on a distantly related line, the SINGLETONS. Walter SINGLETON was married to Fannie SIZEMORE a cousin of grandfather's (more info).I found out that there were Singleton's living Montgomery Co., AR, neighbor county of Polk Co. There were several Singleton children living in the household of a John B HARDIN. I don't know what to make of it yet, but perhaps there may be some connection?

Another cousin of Frank's, Maud SIZEMORE, was married to Earl NORTHCUTT of Coalgate. Although my grandmother hardly remembered meeting any of her husband's family, she remembered both the SINGLETON and NORTHCUTT cousins very well.

Frank WESTFALL and family eventually moved to Lawton. He passed away in 1984, long before I got interested in my family's history. Neither my grandmother nor my father were able to shed any light on the mystery.

Please contact me if any of the names above ring a bell or if you have suggestions as to how to continue. Do you know of any relatives living in Coal Co.? I live in Germany and it's really difficult to find out from here. Does anyone know if death records were kept 1917-1920 and if, where I can obtain them?

Thanks for sticking with me. Of course, I'll gladly share anything I have with those interested.

Thanks so much.

Stephen Westfall
Marburg, Germany

If that doesn't get you there, Google for USGENWEB and follow the links for state, county, etc. to get to the Byrds Prairie listing. There are some Weavers but no Pansy. I'm not sure if this is a complete listing, but hopefully this will give you leads to follow.

The library phone is 580-927-3209.
The CCGS has listings for several cemeteries, so I'm sure they'll have Byrds Prairie.

Does anyone have access to burial listings or an index of burials for Byrds Prairie cemetery? I am seeking death date and burial information on Cassie C. Ralston Gates. Cassie married John Gates and lore indicates that she died in Tupelo, Coal Co., OK and is buried in Byrds Prairie Cemetery. In addition, I seek information on Pansy V. Clubb (possible married name of Weaver) who supposedly died in Coal Co. also. Lore states that she died during or shortly after childbirth but no conclusive information has been found. Any information or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
