Have you started your genealogy? You can find census records, ect. at ancestry.com and here.

https://www.familysearch.org/

Looking at the census records, it shows your Jones and Hammontree family came from Arkansas. These are some records I found. Also it looks like your Mae was a Mary. I saw refference to her name being F, on a tree, but I did not find records to show this. She is listed as Mary B. and May on several records. Her mother is listed as Francis. There is a tree I found on the family, but I did find some mistakes. I would suggest you do your own research to make sure the records are correct. Hope this helps.

name: Isaiah Jones
event: Marriage
event date: 12 Feb 1899
event place: , Washington, Arkansas, United States
age: 20
estimated birth year: 1879
residence: Strickler, Washington, Arkansas
spouse: Mary Hammontree
spouse's age: 19
spouse's estimated birth year: 1880
spouse's residence: Onda, Washington, Arkansas
marriage license date: 09 Feb 1899

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

I am looking for information on the Jones family that owned a store in Keyes, OK in the years surrounding about 1927. I have a picture of my grandparents and my father standing in front of a brick building and identified as taken "in front of dad Jones' store in Keyes Oklahoma 1927". His name may have been Isaiah and his wife went by "Mae". Her name was Frances Mae Hammontree.

I saw a post about Hazen/Harrison Burley Nall and his family. Burley was my grandmother Lucy Nall Martin's half brother. I wondered if you ever found out any further information about Burley. My grandparents moved to Oklahoma for a short time and my father Clarence Tatman Martin was born there. They returned to Kentucky and my grandfather passed away in 1910. Grandma Lucy remarried John Madden and they lived in Christopher, Illinois where she passed away.

I know very little about my father's family except names. And I have some photographs, but not many. I have sites at Ancestory.com for both the Nall and Martin families.

Any information or confirmation of my information would be welcomed.

Shalom!
Carol Martin Bonds

I am Lorene Blancet Parker. Westley Edward Eslinger was my grandfather who was married to martha Huskey. They moved to Griggs, Ok around 1910. They had 4 children. Amos, mary Alice, Maggie and Molly. Mary Alice was my mother and she married Robert Blaine Blancet and had five children--Hazel Estell, Billy Edward, Wayne Douglas, Irene Vada and Lorene Ada {myself). My Dad and brother are burried in the Marella cemetery. MY Twin and I were born in 1929 in Griggs, OK . I Can remember when I was about 8 or nine Aunt Dicy walking across the field to visit Grandpa and grandma when they moved to Texhoma. I don't know what happened to her. My mother mentioned Hattie also. I was young at that time then moved away so I don't know what happened to them. I knw that grandpa westley had a brother John who also moved to Cimmeron County . He must have died fairly young because I don't remember ever seeing him. There is A Ray
eslinger who lives in Cimmeron County and does a lot of research on the Eslinger family. I don't have his Address but will try to locate him. He ran for Commisioner about 4 years ago but was defeated by a few votes. I now live in Blaine Washington with my son Loren Parker, since losing my husband two years ago
In my Dad's information..his Grandmother worked with someone who was named (sounds like) Coalie, Dad's long gone as is his Mother, Grandmother and any known connection with the Anchor D. Anyway it was some material found after my Mother's death. Grandmother according to info worked as a Cook at the Anchor D Ranch in the 20's and early 30's. rex.bewley@gmail.com Whoever this was, was a Ranch Foreman at the Anchor D

Hi Guy; Several years ago I wrote and received a letter from your Mother, Margaret Slack) at least, I believe it was your Mother. I think at the time she was living in Creede CO. I just happened to look at that old site and saw your name...funny it would be back in November. I check on it every now and then. I have moved and changed E-Mail a couple times since then. I haven't had the Ancestry site for a few years and still haven't found Harold Lloyd Zinn's birthplace or certificate. I've also never seen pictures of Cora, though I have of Milos, Maxine, Lucretia and Hattie. Rex Bewley

Need help locating missing Boyer sisters in Oklahoma. Marcus E. Boyer went to Oklahoma in the early part of the 1940's with his wife Linnis R. Unknown Boyer. They had three daughters, the oldest one was born about1945. The other two were born about 1948 and 1951. Marcus and Linnis divorced about 1965, Lennis remarried to unknown - a farmer or rancher from the panhandle of Oklahoma, who later adopted the daughters. Marcus died in 2001 in Norman, Ok. .
I am trying to find the daughters, so I can pass on to them their family history. I have been unable to find the maiden name of Lennis nor have I been able to find the names of the daughters. The oldest daughter, married and was living in Oklahoma City in the mid 1960's. Lennis and her new husband were living in the panhandle of Oklahoma in the 1990's. If any one has any information on this family please contact me.

Goff (not Golf) was a community located between 4 and 10 miles east of Keyes. It never got a township name but was one of the "Willow Bar" areas listed in the 1910 and 1920 census. There is a small cemetery there known as the Goff Cemetery. Some of the stones are unreadable and some graves unmarked. There is a listing on findagravefor "Goff-Hagen Cemetery" and it lists names of burials registered there. I could find no record of any Duugans, but there is a Doc Hagen buried in that cemetery. Goff was the name of a creek that winds through the area.
There was never a town called Golf. However, there is a creek that is called Goff (or maybe somerimes Golf) which starts north of Keyes and winds down through the Yarbrough area in Texas County, ending up joining the Beaver river just north of Guymon. I have heard my dad talk about a post office that used to be along the old Sante Fe Trail about 6 miles East and 5 miles north of Keyes. I am thinking it may have been known as Goff Post office. It would be what was the Willow Bar Township in the 1910 Census. The Dougan name does not seem to be on that census record. I will try to get some more information for you.

The Post Office List you refer to is available online and is a part of the Chronicles Of Oklahoma

http://digital.library.okstate.edu/chronicles/v006/v006p155....

Chronicles of Oklahoma
Volume 6, No. 2
June, 1928
EARLY POST OFFICES
by Grant Foreman

The entry reads . . .

Florence George W. Hubbard April 9, 1890
(Beaver County)
(Late Carrizo, changed to Kenton May 12, 1891)

Elsewhere in the Chronicles is this.

http://digital.library.okstate.edu/encyclopedia/entries/B/BE...
Other towns that were established in the 1880s were Carrizo (Kenton), Optima, Hardesty, and Gate City. None of these four were on their present town sites, as they were moved with the coming of railroads

The most telling entry in these histories is this.

http://digital.library.okstate.edu/encyclopedia/entries/C/CI...
In 1890 the entire Public Land Strip became Beaver County, Oklahoma Territory, and in that year the United States conducted the first census. Only two communities in the area, Carrizo (just over the line, in New Mexico Territory) and Mineral City, had enough residents to bother enumerating. Carrizo claimed eighty-three inhabitants and Mineral City ninety-eight. According to that census, the two earliest citizens, John Threldkell, from Kentucky, and Charles Grammar, a German immigrant, had been there since 1873.

Try New Mexico, at least they have some records. No Man's Land had no government and thus no records. The only BLM land filings for a William H. Boyd I find are in 1907 in Mora county.

The George Hubbard mentioned is thought to be related to L. M. Hubbard the man who took over the Cimarron Territory movement after Chase moved on. He was also the largest whiskey maker in the Strip. Most of the people connected with the Cimarron government were crooked and many think that is why Congress refused to recognize them.
I am searching for any information of Dougan who resided in Golf, Cimarron County, OK where he died in 1908. I believe he may have been establishing a homestead. He was buried in Texhoma in May, 1908 but I did not find his gravesite. I was told that part of that cemetery may have been buried in the "dirty thirties".
My visit in 2007 to Keyes did not produce any information on this person or the town of Golf.

Just Wanted to let you know Archie Jefforson Brite was my Grandfather. He had three children, Irene, Betty, and Jesse, my father. I am trying to trace the link to Archie's mother Martha Jane Hood born in Ok. I'm trying to trace the cherokee links, and if the family is on the tribal census. I remember my Grandmother talking about a Clarence in the family. She was Archies former wife Abigail. If you know anything, please write me. thank you,
Patricia Brite-White

I have an article from the New York Times about J. W. Anderson the postmaster of Collins Post Office. I think this is the same person buried at Willowbar Cemetery. In the story it tell of him and his brother, mother, and a son being given 48 hours to leave the country by a gang of "cowboys". It says he joined a group of refugees at Boston to the north up across the Colorado line.
Does anyone know anything about the Anderson family or where Collins Post Office may have been?

Just a side story here. The graves of the Brite children who were drowned at Point Rock Ranch north of Elkhart are on the self guided auto tour along the Santa Fe Trail in the Cimarron Grassland. Its about 2 miles east of highway 27 opposite the turn to the west for Point of Rocks. The marker sits back away from the road but you can easily walk over to it.

Melvin Hammontree lived at Keyes Okla. His wife may still be alive. He used to own a mine on the West Spanish Peak in Huerfano, County Colorado which is close to La Veta. We did road work for him to the mine and he used to stop by often. I assume he is buried at Keyes, he died 8 or 10 years ago and his kids sold the mine. There were many records on it from the 1880's. Wish we knew what happened to all that history. SHirley Jameson

Dear Bonnie,

Quite by accident, I came across your post while searching for information on my sister-in-law’s Cochran family roots, and you are both descended from William Odonald Cochran. She is descended from William’s son George and you are descended from George’s brother, Achilles. She has her grandmother’s scrapbook, which contains some Cochran photos, and a note book that was passed along to her titled "Old Trails of Kenton 1898-49." A few years ago, I also corresponded with Cochrans who lived in Kenton and I have information from them. I have traced the Cochrans back to William Odonald Cochran’s parents, Housan and Milla Cochran and their nine children.

I will be happy to share the family tree that I have put together (along with sources), and am very interested in your genealogy and the picture you have of William and Nancy Cochran’s 7 chldren.
