Adaline Whiteside, full-blood Cherokee, was probably born in Jefferson County, Illinois about 1848. The name "Whiteside" was a nickname given her family; not their true last name. Her family originally crossed on the 'Trail of Tears' and ended up in Oklahoma. Supposedly, her father was a Chief or Headman. Adaline met George A. Fisher, Native American, in Oklahoma. They left tribal land in Oklohama and married; probably in Missouri. We located a marriage license dated 1864, Jefferson County, Missouri. Adaline and George then sharecropped for a while around Sedalia, MO. Eventually, Adaline and George moved to Franklin County, Illinois and started a family. Twins William T. and Sarah, (Sarah died at birth), were born in 1869, and George W. was born in 1871. Circa 1880, Adaline died in Illinois and George moved the boys to Bell City, Missouri. He left them with relatives and departed for parts unknown, only to reappear occasionally. He worked as a horse trader and served in a Confederate Indian regiment during the Civil War.

We have found no records on either Adaline or George. Family in Missouri received land allottment information from Tahlequah in the 1950's; however, they were uninterested and discarded the letter. Any help would be appreciated. I believe the key lies in finding Adaline's true last name.
