His mother was Fannie Glazebrook who married his father, William Newton Smith in 1896 in Hunt county, Texas. They divorced or had the marriage annulled before Claude was born in January, 1897. In 1900, she married Will Leach in Atoka, Oklahoma. Then moved to Durant, Oklahoma. Their child was Edith Helen Leach, my grandmother on my mother's side.
My grandmother always she her step-brother died young. I am thinking he died before my mother was born in 1921 because she never met him.

Having common names like Smith and Jones is tough. I appreciate your help. I did find one young man by that name that died in College Station, Texas, but after further investigation found out it was another Claude Smith. I will keep digging.

There were actually several Claude Smiths in the area during that time. The one in Caddo/Durant that I have information about was the son of W. T. Smith, local merchant, and Louvina Smith. But I have his birth date as 1891.

I am looking for service records or a record of death for a Claude Henery Smith, born Jan 27,1897 in Durant, Bryan, Oklahoma and registered for the draft on June 5,1918 in the same town. Since that date, I can't find any records of him. If he died, I can't find when or where. I also can't find if he served in the military or not and may have died in battle. Any suggestions?

There are many Dawsons listed in the Bokchito papers for 1904-1913 including Garfield, Sam, Claud, G. W., George, Hattie, ida, Joe, Joseph, and Walter. This is from Jan. 25, 1906- "Claud, Walter and Joe Dawson of Monroe, I. T. arrived in Bokchito last Thursday. they will probably stay here for some time." There were also some Dawsons in the Caddo area and there is a John Dawson on the 1861 Blue County Census. Not my family but if you email me I will send what I have in my files. maryemaurer@hotmail.com

Looking for more information on my Great Great Grandmother Marietta Kendrick (b. 1875 Mississippi / d. 1956 Bokchito OK), who married William Perry Dawson (1875-1903, I think), then Elkin Hydenfeld Knight in 1905.

Her sons were Roy (my great grandfather) and Lon Butler. She was in Bokchito by 1910, but I'm not sure exactly what year she arrived (she and boys were enumerated in 1900 in Red River Texas). I'm also not sure if William Perry Dawson died in Texas or Oklahoma; I suspect Texas.

I think William Perry's parents were John Wesley Dawson (also enumerated in Red River in 1900 and in Bryan county by 1910; Bokchito by 1920) and Euphemia Hill, but I'm looking for confirmation, and hopefully pictures.

Anybody else researching this line? I have lots of pictures of Etta and her grown sons but none of William Perry.
Galveston Weekly News (Galveston, Galveston Co., TX), Thur., 25 May 1882, p. 4, c. 6

Weatherford

[Special Telegram to the News]

Weatherford, May 10 -- Deputy Sheriff Jos. Lindsay last night arrested J. C. Whitmore, upon information from the county attorney of Clay county that he was wanted for theft. Other facts, as learned, are as follows: some two months ago, T. J. Posey, a freighter of Weatherford, went to the Panhandle, and going through Clay county, lost one yoke of his team, the oxen returning some days after. Posey camped near Jacksboro with another freighter, who states that Whitmore came to the camp and represented that he had found Posey's oxen, and proposed to show him where they were, somewhere in Clay county. Posey prepared to go on horseback, but Whitmore insisted that he take a wagon and team, which he did start with, and that has been the lat so far as definitely learned of Posey. Whitmore says he left him at Henrietta, but it has been learned that Whitmore sold the oxen and in his pocket was found a pocketbook identified as belonging to Posey. Whitmore is twenty-three years old, of respectable parents, residents of the county. Posey was an honest, industrious man, and leaves a wife and three years.

= = = = =

Galveston Weekly News (Galveston, Galveston Co., TX), Thur., 1 Jun 1882, p. 8, c. 7

Texas State Items - Clay [County]

Henrietta Shield: Last fall a Mr. Posey, of Parker county, passed through Henrietta, on his way to Mobeotie, with an ox team. While in camp near here one yoke of oxen ran off. Mr. Posey made arrangements with George Whitmore to hunt the cattle, and then went on to Mobeotie with the load. Posey returning this way, Whitmore reported the cattle found. But the fact was he had found the cattle, and on Mr. Posey's departure for Weatherford, drove them up and worked them most of the winter and in February sold them to Buck Dawson. Posey charged him with working his oxen all winter. This charge Whitmore denied, and proposed to come back here with Posey and find the cattle and clear up the report. Posey came to Jacksboro with his wagon and team and a load of freight, unloaded and camped two miles south of town, concluding to return to Weatherford. But Whitmore persuaded him to start with him for Henrietta the next day. They passed through Jacksboro together, since which nothing has been seen or heard of Posey. A few days ago Whitmore returned to Weatherford and was arrested. On his person was found Posey's pocket-book, and the supposition is that he killed Posey in the woods this side of Jacksboro and took the team off and sold it. Whitmore is a young man, of not more than twenty years. His people live in Parker county.

= = = = = =

Galveston Dailey News (Galveston, Galveston Co., TX), Sun., 28 May 1882, p. 1, c. 7

Weatherford

A Corpse Found

[Special Telegram to The News]

Weatherford, May 27 -- Information has been received here of the finding in a lonely spot, between Jacksboro and Henrietta, an abandoned wagon containing the dead body of a man supposed to be that of T. J. Posey, who, it is believed, has been murdered, the particulars of which were partially given to The News upon the arrest of Whitmore, who is now in jail. Several of Posey's friends have gone to view the body and wagon for the purpose of identification.
I am the great-grandson of G.L. and Mary Ann Burchfiel Rinehart and would like to learn more about them. I get lost when trying to figure G.L.'s lineage because it seems that he was born out of wedlock. Never mind trying to get through the Burchfiel line...ugh! With the spelling of the names so variable it is a nightmare! If you don't mind please get in touch with me sometime. gebrownokda@yahoo.com
G.L.
I am looking for any information on Reason or Zachariah Jones, or Zachariah's daughter, Lizzie Jones of Bryan and Choctaw Counties. Lizzie was my father's grandmother & along with her father, Zachariah and other family members, are original enrollees of the Choctaw Nation. I have found misc. information on Reason Jones. I know he is often listed as the same Reason Jones as the one in Cooke County, Texas. However, I believe my Reason Jones is not the same man. Reason's wife was Rhoda (maiden name unknown) and his children were: Ellis, Zachariah, Melissa, and Julius. Zack was my gg-grandfather, and his daughter, Lizzie was my great-grandmother. My grandmother Buna's aunts were: Amelia Britton, Mattie McKinney & Mittie (?) Jones, and her uncles were Bud (Ellis' nickname?) and John Jones. Zack had a brother and a son named Ellis. I hope to attach a picture of my great-grandparents, Lizzie & John F. Butler. If anyone has any information, please contact me at martingillette@yahoo.com Thank You, ALGillette

 You are right, June is the daughter of Tobe and Lena McGarr. My grandfather and her married on December 30, 1944 and divorced just a few months before her car accident. I am trying to find information on whether or not she had a child? Around the 1960s my grandmother and grandfather visited Tobe and Lena who told my grandfather that June had had a baby and sent the baby to live with family in California. She never told my grandfather about her pregnancy. About five years ago he received a letter from a man in California asking if he was his father. My grandfather gave him the family information and told him if he was he would like to be a part of his life. We have done extensive research trying to find out about this unknown child but cannot find any records or any information. If anyone can help with this, please send me a message, my email - tiffanyeuler@yahoo.com. Thanks

Hi I was just browsing and ran into your message. The Puntch line is my great grandmothers line. She was Matilda Puntch. I believe Mattie Douglas married John William Malone. I have a letter written by Jessie Malone Rodgers that Mattie was choctaw. Lizzy Kitchen Puntch died about 1894/96 as well as Edwin Harvey Lee Puntch. Both had malaria. I believe they were in Silsbee Texas. The three children Mattie, Pearl and Richard were dropped off at an Indian School/Mission near Pikes Peak this is per Jessie Malone Rodgers. I hope we can look at each others line.
Thanks Linda Weltz

I found it - it was Gene Phillips:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=mr&MRid=46...

He was very helpful, although he doesn't live in Oklahoma.

I have been there, although I have not indexed it. I tried to take all the pics I could when I found some of my ancestors, as it was difficult to locate. Here are the Vails on findagrave.com in Philadelphia Cemetery: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GSln=V...;
Message me if you are still looking & I'll see if I can look up the person who helped me with the Philadelphia records.

I know this is a really old thread, but hopefully this helps. I had a heck of a time finding the Philadelphia Cemetery for some ancestors of mine, so I snapped all the pics I could find:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Ri...;
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=68...

It looks like Edgar is in the Highland Cemetery:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Ri...;
