seeking info on Salt Flats

Going through some stuff my mom gave me, I found this box of salt crystals and a note from my dad's sister. The note was not dated but appeared to be many years old and my dad passed away 11 years ago. My aunt mailed the salt to Dad because she thought he might get a kick out of it as he had worked there at the Salt Flats when he was young. I'm guessing this would have been in the mid-forties. Does anyone know what the Salt Falts are or were, location of them and what type of work my dad may have done there? Or where can I search for more info?
Where O where is Busmer College?

I've done a Google search for the above named college and nothing comes up (o.k. there is a pharmaceutical college in Germany with this name). A distant cousin of mine, Francis Shuler, was a graduate of this college. She was also a ward at the Carmen IOOF Home for Children in Carmen, Okla. She and her siblings, Nadine, Naomi & Richard. When I inquired about these children to the Ind. Order of Odd Fellows Grand Lodge, in Perry, Ok, they sent me back what little information they had on the them. They were admitted in 1928 and discharged in 1934, to their eldest sister, Nadine [Shuler]Gerber, of Okla City. Is there a city by the name of Busmer? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Diane Carter

P.S. Nadine, Francis, Naomi & Richard were children of Evan O. Shuler & Lula May Dobson.

Claud Fountain Pearce had an address in Aline, Alfalfa County, OK in 1935. He was from a family active in the Christian Church, and was a distant relative. He produced a lot of the family history for my Pearce line, and wrote several chapters of history, which is scattered in various locations. I only have the first chapter of his life and would like to obtain his other public records and information on his family.

SILER, ARNOLD

In about 1899 or 1900, John SILER, a widower, moved to the Cherokee area with his children; George Kifer
("GK"), Jemima, Olive, Orval, and Earl. Other daughters were married, but may have followed: Emma and Jasper
Jones, and Mary and George Dean. On 1 August, 1901, John married a Quaker widow, Hannah ARNOLD. On
the same day, John's daughter, Olive, married Hannah's son, Nathan. All four are buried at the Stella Cemetery,
near Cherokee. My question is, what became of the rest of John's and Hannah's children? Hannah's other children
were Daniel Jessie, Albert, Ammy, and twins Luetta & Luella. I have some details and am glad to share.

1910 Census has Lillie running boarding house in Carmen Ward 2, Alfalfa, OK. Census has her divorced at that time and her exhusband (Moses) living in Red Rock, Noble Cty, OK. Any help would be appreciated.

tedwkunkle@verizon.net

Minnie Kendall married a William F. Silks and had the children Ella and Raymond. I found a family some years ago that told me Minnie was killed in a train accident while driving a car near or in Carmen. The kids Ella and Raymond were thrown out of the car and lived. Minnie must have died from the train accident between 1900 and 1910 census. But I can’t find anything about it yet.

Her parents Joseph Kendall died in Carmen 1905 and Mary Jane 1915 in Jett. They also had a son named Adolph who I also think died in or around Carmen. Adolph last appeared in the 1930 census at the age of 62.

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Seeking info on the family of Peter S and Henrietta Miller who are on the 1910,1920 & 1930 census records for Byron Twp, Alfalfa Co. In 1900 they were living in Stella Twp, Woods Co, Oklahoma and they had 3 children, 1 of whom was George H b. March 1875 Iowa and he was living with them in 1900. I am guessing the other two children were probably married daughters who were living away from home.
Peter S Miller was b. Nov 1849 in Morgan Co, Illinois - his half brother, Foster Miller b. 1863 Iowa, was living in Manchester, Grant Co, Oklahoma in 1920. Would like to learn more about these Miller families, places of death, etc. Will share research on earlier lines.
I'm searching for information regarding Ethel Case, the second wife of my great-grandfather, William Wesley Reid. Ethel was the oldest child of Frank L. Case and Jennie G. Walter of Byron, OK. Her brothers were Bert Dexter Case and Harold G. Case. She married William on 14 June 1916 in Byron, and they soon moved thereafter to Meade, Meade Co KS, where Ethel gave birth to daughter, Lucile, who was stillborn, on 30 Mar 1917. Apparently due to complications from the birth, Ethel died the next day. Ethel, Lucile and William are buried together in Graceland Cemetery in Meade.

According to her 1910 US census record in Alfalfa Co., Ethel was a public school teacher, and her father, Frank, was a rural mail carrier. Her brother Bert was a long-time mail carrier in the Byron area as well.

I'm searching for information, photos and other memorabilia about Ethel and her parents and brothers.

Thanks, John Reid
P.O.
From the 1920 census I have Clyde Loy 14 and Otho Loy 11 both inmates in a Children's Home. Unfortunately, I can't read the full name of the home. It says "Something" West-Home for White Children Helena Twp., Alfalfa County. Can someone help me with the complete name and where I might go to find records of the two boys?
Thank you for your help.

I have an obit for an ancestor, John Darby. I am assuming he died in Alfalfa or Woods county since the funeral was conducted by M.C.Lakey who was residing in Alfalfa Co. according to census records. We do not know in which newspaper the obit would have been printed.

John Darby died March 13, 1901 and he had one son that was residing in Woods Co at this time, William T. Darby.

I am hoping someone will search the newspaper for this time and date and possibly a cemetery record for John Darby.

My Thanks for any assistance.

William Martin ALLEN was in the 1893 Land Rush and homesteaded with his sons in Grant County. He later moved to a farm northeast of Jet in Alfalfa county. His daughter-in-law, Emma Alice HOWE ALLEN, stayed on the family farm until about 1920 when she moved to San Diego, California. The HOWEs, DUFFIELDs and McGUINNs were related by marriage to the Allens.

Elsie Ilene Smith, Only born Okie in family!

I'm looking for my grand aunt. She was born April 08, 1901 in Oklahoma. I have her family in the Carmen, Augusta area of Alfalfa county, Oklahoma. My great grandfather (her father) and all the other 7 siblings were born around Waukegan IL. In the 1900 census, they were still in IL. Then for some weird reason, they moved to Western OK around Carmen, I'm guessing less than 1-2 year stay, and they moved back to Waukegan, IL. where they came from! Elsie's brother, Lester Smith, was 10 years old, died in Carmen/Augusta area January 24, 1902 and is buried in Eagle Chief cemetery, near Carmen. So I'd like to know where Elsie was born in OK, Why they came to OK for such a short time, Why they left and went back to IL, and What did Lester die from? I can't find an obit or death record on him, or a birth record for Elsie. Any help would be greatly appreciated and help solve this family mystery! send replys to : dallas@mrssurefire.com. Thanks. ds

If there is a History book on Alfalfa County, could someone look and see if there is a listing for my great grandparents: Thomas Byron Smith or Alma Ester Handy. They lived in Waukegan IL, and came to Carmen area after 1900, but probably left back to IL late in 1902. I'm wondering if any of their childrten are listed on school rolls, or any other paper trails. Kids were Charlie Eugene, George Howard, Floyd Reuben, Sidney Byron, Lester, Clarence, Inez Irene, Elsie Ilene. Elsie was the only one born in Oklahoma...probably around Carmen.

1905 graduation program from Aline public school

I found this neat graduation program at an antique store and am looking for descendants of the pupils who may want to have this. The school is Aline Public School, year 10/3/1904 through 5/19/1905, teacher Marvin V. Baxter, school officers E.D. Ford, S.L. Christ, and H.A. Lile. Pupils were CULLEN-- Maggie, Ethel, Bessie, Joseph, Anna, Mary, and Jady; TEBBEN-- Lizzie, Will, Fred, and Albert; WALTER-- Nellie, Mabel, and Harry; HARNACK-- Emma, and Joseph; KENNARD-- Christie, John, and Maggie; MANDERSCHEIT-- Kate, Lena, Mary, Anna, Matt, and Peter; WHITE-- Guy, Charlie, and Irving; GEILENZ-- Mary, Amelia, and Willie; DEICK-- Joseph; SCHEITEN-- John; and PIOTRASCHKE-- Helen and Ernest. There is a picture of what is probably one of the pupils but it is not identified. If you would like to see this neat old program, I attached the image to this message. My email address is bulblvr@aol.com.

One of my nieces said she once saw a broken headstone of Lester Smith, 10 years old at this cemetery. Born about 1892 and died in 1902. He would be my GrandNephew. My Neice thought it was called Cloud Chief, but all I can find is Eagle Chief. Hopefully that is correct. I'd like to drive there from Tulsa and enjoy a nice road trip. Can anyone tell me the best way to find the cemetery? Or if you live near the cemetery, do some footwork for me and locate the headstone for me and directions to find it also. I thing she said it was broken and layiong on the ground. I'd like to fix it somehow if it is. Any suggestions? Anyone around there with info? Thanks.

My grandparents (Harry and Mary Quin) lived in Aline in the 1913 to 1920 timeframe. He was the railroad station agent (I think). I found a deed where he bought a cemetery lot in the "Eastern Star Cemetery" in May of 1918. I believe they had a child who died very young and may be buried in that plot.
I cannot find any info on the cemetery - is it possible that it is now called something else?
Even better, might someone know if a Josephine Quin is buried there?
I would be most grateful for any info or help.

My great grandparents John Griffin and Barbara Highfill married in Yewed, Alfalfa Co., in 1898. By 1900, they were living in Woods County.

I am interested in obtaining a record of their marriage, along with any additional family information that might be available.

I understand Barbara's father, Jeremiah Highfill, may have participated in the Land Rush, and have heard that John Griffin did also. I would like confirmation of this, if possible.

Additionally, I suspect John's brothers William A. and Nathan L. Griffin may have also accompanied him to Alfalfa County. In the 1920 census I find a William A. Griffin with wife Nettie living in Alfalfa Co., Clay township. I would appreciate any information helping me determine whether this William A. Griffin is the brother of John C. Griffin.
