I am researching James F. Morris. He was born in Ohio circa 1827. His wife, Aletha was also born in Ohio circa 1826. In 1849 they had a son, Alexander. They must have moved to Missouri before 1854 because their second child, Mary or Amy, was born in Missouri. A third child James, was born in Missouri in 1859.
The Morris family appears in the Breckenridge County, Kansas - later Lyon County - census of 1860. James was working as a physician and surgeon in Neosho Rapids, Kansas.
I do not know what happened to Aletha, however, James married Catherine Annette Lillie in 1866.
By 1870, they were residing in Butler County, Kansas where James had his medical practice and a pharmacy which was operated by his son, Alexander.
James, Alexander and 2 other men from the area were lynched by vigilantes in December 1870, after objecting to the lynching of 4 alleged horse thieves in November.
Catherine later married David Mann in 1885 in Linn County, Kansas
This vigilante episode is the case study for my PhD dissertation. I am attempting to sort out all the details. If you have any information about James or his family, I would appreciate you contacting me at: firstname.lastname@example.org
