Hi Mary, I have read all posts on this board and am very facinated. I have NDN ancestry, just not sure what tribe. Really, I feel it is more than one. But, I have felt drawn to Shawnee. My lineage is deep-rooted in Virginia & WVA. My Grandfather told me his Grandmother was Indian. I find it kinda ironical that his Mother's name was Mary Margaret Bailes and it is her Mother he spoke of. Also, Mary's father was Robert Bailes (they were born VA 1860s) his father was Soloman m Mary Martin (I am stuck on her). I was wondering abt the variation in names like Bailes/Bayles, etc? I want desperately to find my NDN roots, for no other reason but to know who they were. I don't really care abt proving for any kind of card/membership, etc...Besides, my Grandfather as I remember him, was a strong-willed person, not the kind that would've descended from people that would sign on any of the rolls, anyway I haven't found them on any of them. They moved from Rockbridge VA to Allegany to WVA then to Indiana where I live. They settled at Lauramie, Tippecanoe Lafayette at first at the mouth of the Wabash River. When I look at any pics (real or renditions) of Tecumseh, I can't help but feel I am looking into my Grandfather's eyes and my Fathers eyes, which I have inherited. Thank you for posting all the info you have, and I just wanted to link up with some people who might be able to help me solve my NDN mystery. Blessings~^~Donna
