Ok, he's quite a mystery. According to Wales censuses from Resolven (Glamorgan), he had three birthdates listed...all from North America. His birthdate is clear enough to know he was born sometimes in 1799 or 1800. They marked "Foreign parts, North America, Canada, Ohio, and Island of Mushegan". I'll assume "Mushegan" means "Michigan". He lived in Wales for the rest of his life then, which is unusual since people born in North America tends to stay there all of their lives.

His parents are unknown and so are his siblings, which makes it even more complicated. He was married to Elizabeth and had several children which one of them, Maria, went to Pennsylvania (Luzerne County) where the family settled and I came along a few generations later.

Those areas (except Canada) were part of the USA (Northwest Territory then), but the British kept control of Detriot until the mid-1700s. He was probably born after the 1800 census, so I didn't find him there on free census sites.

Anyway could get some more clues for me or something? I'm very interested in his origins. He's probably Scottish but in old threads from 2000 mentioned that he could have a French mother according to a family legend...but no new clues that I do not know.

Thanks.
