Given his service in the War of 1812, there is a possibility that he is buried at Ft Meigs Cemeteries in Perrysburg, Ohio.

I am trying to resarch My James Savage DANIELS Family ,James was the son of Nathan and Hannah Daniels.
James as born about 1778 (1850 census sys in N.J.) It is believed that the Danels Family lived in Kentucky in the later 1700's , then moved to Warren Co. ,Turtle creek ,Ohio. Nathan's Will states that as his home in 1812.
I do NOT find any records of a land purchase, but I do find James Daniels and Peter Banta in the 1810 Tax list TOGETHER.
I also have searched and found Peter Banta in Lincoln Co. Ky., James Daniels wife Roda/Rhoda was also from Ky (maiden name unknown)
Also there is something in Nathan Daniels Will that I don't understand, it lists his son James as well as JOHN SELLARS as the executors of his will... I do know that John Sellars was also in LincolnCo. Ky. Yet I CAN NOT find a single thing on My DANIELS before Warren Co. Ohio... Nathan Died in 1814... Can any body help out here!
Don't know a single thing about Hannah or Rhoda either..
Sure am finding out alot about history...
Other manes that MAY be related are Blackford& Bunnell, still trying to tie those in tho.

Re: Parents of Harriet Ann Perry

Hi Gwen,

My guess is that, Harriet was probably the daughter of John Perry and Anna (Barbara Anna?) Hildebrandt.

She named her daughter (Angeline) after her sister Angeline Perry. (see below)

My theory is, John Perry died and Anna remarried a Thomas H. Soule in 1835 and they both died prior to the 1850 census.
I also believe Barbara Anna Hildebrandt and Thomas Soule's had a daughter from that union. Harriet and Angeline's half-sister, Eliza Ann Soule. (see below)

This is Angeline Perry's timeline of events.

Ohio, Deaths, 1908-1953
Name: Angeline Spence
Event Type: Death
Event Date: 02 Jul 1925
Event Place: Morrow, Warren, Ohio
Residence Place: Morrow, Warren, Ohio
Address:
Gender: Female
Age: 96
Marital Status: Widowed
Race: White
Occupation: Housewife
Birth Date: 05 May 1829
Birthplace: Dresden, Ohio
Birth Year (Estimated): 1829
Burial Date: 06 Jul 1925
Burial Place: Morrow, Ohio
Cemetery: Morrow
Father's Name: John Perry <<<<
Father's Birthplace:
Mother's Name: Anna Hildebrandt <<<<<
Mother's Birthplace: Ohio
Spouse's Name: John W.
John R. Booram ab. 1786-bef. 1 Apr. 1870

John R. Booram 1785/1786 to bef. 1 Apr. 1870
no birth date; no marriage date, birthdate in New York is calculated from census reports. Children from 1821 to 1831 in New York, moved to Ohio by 1850 where he died.
Phonetic name recordings and other individuals with similar names complicate this research.

Found: C 1840 in New Albion, Cattaraugus CO., NY for John Booram, no details and same location John Boorman owning 8 acres on lot 13 in 1838. He is not listed as early settler (History of New Albion Cattaraugus County by F. Ellis)
Found: C1850 in Reed, Seneca County Ohio for “John R. Booram” age 64 birth 1786 in New York Prob. died after 1860 burial in Freedom, Ohio not confirmed. Daughters : Effama marr. Rogers, Adrianna marr. Clay, and Sally .
The C 1850 for Freedom,Wood,Ohio shows family of “Amos Rojers 32, E.Rojers 28, Amanda Rojers 10, Hariet Rojers 7, Franklin Rojers 6” (From familysearch.org)

Found: C1860
The C 1860 for Freedom, Ohio shows family of “Amoxs Rodgers 45, Effana Rodgers 39 children 6 mo. to 20 years (familysearch.org) and most likely John Booram age 75 born NY” “ “(yorkies1@bak.rr.com) The last name is not very legible but it seems to be “John Buram/Boram”
He marr Sarah (Baxter? Not confirmed), burial Armstrong Cemetery 1791-1849 OH and had 3 daughters (From Rootsweb author “Janice” source Helen Waugh who came to Ohio to claim his war of 1812 bounty land for his 3 daughters; land is in New Rochester Wood County Ohio) The note in RW says: Land Bounty application in 1855 states he was 73. This does not agree with first statement.
“Booram, John R. receives war pension of $ 58, case file # 12.382, location Freedom, NY”; source as below
The Bowling Green State University of Ohio, Center for Archival Collections has
estate file for “Booram, John R. est. # 820, box 105”
An administrator for the estate of John R. Booram by name D.K. Hollenback is appointed ( Notice 1 Apr. 1870 and 12 July 1870 from Perrysburg Journal, Wood county Ohio)

Steuben County New York deeds has deed of “Booram John R.” and Ezekiel Watson p. 175 ab. 1822 and Booram, Elijah to John R. Boormen p. 616, also on p. 260 and p. 107 in Book 2 to Book 4, p. 599 John R. Booram, likely time span 1800-1820 Book 1, 1821-1825 Book 2, 1826-1838 Book 3 and 1845-1859 Book 4)
“John R. Boorom” rec. 1831 Schuyler County land deeds p. 325 deed of Cyrus Cole… “on the east lands of John R. Boorom…”
“John Booram” in Steuben County Tyrone NY state census 1825 shows 4 males, 4 females, no militiaentries (males between 18-45) two voters, “2 voters” is very puzzling, only free men age 21 and over could vote, this means 2 males were under 18 years and two males were over 45, John R. Booram born 1786 would be 39 years old and included in militia duty.
This is most likely “John B.Boorham Wayne, Steuben, NY” C 1820: 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-16, I male 45 plus 1 female under 10, 1 fem.10-16 1 fem. 45 plus.. That Census also has “Elija Boorom and Henry Boorom” therefore John is not related to Elijah and Henry.
The Census of 1830 in Erwin, Steuben Co. shows “ John Burnham : 2 males under 5, 1 male 10-15. I male age over 40 under 50 , 1 fem. Under 5, 1 fem. 5-10, 1 fem. 30-40. Clearly not the same John as in census 1820.
It is said John Burnham came from Maine after 1830 moved to MI by census of 1840, but that is not a true documentation.
There is no census reports after 1830 in New York for John Burnham/John R. Booram.

“John Booram” listed in Census of 1840 of New Albion, Cattaraugus Co. NY.(no details)

In Steuben County NY we find Booram families originating from New Jersey, some moved to Ohio.
HeIndrick Booram (1755-1823) arrived in Seneca Co. NY I 1805 had a son John Booram 25 Oct. 1795 who remained in Seneca County NEW YORK and had children between 1818 and 1835 died 1869/1870 in Covert Seneca County, New York so he did not move to Ohio.(From History of the Seneca Baptist Association, he was a deacon in 1849)
This John did not move outside Seneca Co. NY, he was not the John in New Albion in 1840 etc
Hendrick Booram had another son Elijah Booram (1780)
and his son
Elijah Booram 1810 (NJ) died 5 Aug. 1878 age 68 in Ohio; rec. Ohio Census 1840 and Census 1870 also rec. as trustee of the town Reed in 1849. There is a brother of Elijah (1810) named Louis Booram (1807 in NJ) in Ohio Census who did not have a daughter Adrianna.

There is no known John R. Booram in the timeframe in New York born ab. 1786 moving to Ohio.
.

Children of John R. Booram
1 )Effana (Effie) Booram 7 Jul. 1821 NY (source RW) marr. 1838 Amos Rogers(1817-1870) burial 17 Oct.1896,
9 children (From Commemorative history and bibliographical record of Wood county Ohio by M.A. Leeson) The burial says born in Staten Island, NY (no source, not confirmed), another record says birth in Seneca Co., New York.
The death record for daughter Amanda widow Russell in 1919 states “father Amos Rogers, mother Effie Borham born Lodi, Ohio”.-no documentation found in Lodi, Medina Co. Ohio

2) Adriene Booram ab. 1825 in NY Daniel Clay 1848 OH. (18 Aug.1848 Seneca,Ohio “Adrian Boorom) Grave: Adianna (note the spelling) Booram Clay born 19 May 1825 Steuben Co. NY.There is no evidence that Adrianna is daughter of Lewis Boorom ( 1807/8- marr. Martha died 28 Apr 1862 Ohio)
3) Sally Booram ab. 1831 said to have married Nelson Knolls (RW) no documentation

It remains possible that John R. Booram is aka John R. Boerum birth unknown in his father’s will 1829 pr. 1834 mentioned as “son John R. Boerum residing in Ohio” the timeline for father’s census 1790 to 1820 fits, but after the will there is no further documentation of any John R. Boerum in New York or Ohio.
His mother was “Adrianna” Remsen .

Conclusion
There is no documentation for birth or marriage for John R. Booram in New York.
The likely birth date is ab. 1786 based on census reports.
He does not fit into family of New York to Ohio based families of Elijah Booram and Luis Booram.
Pertaining to New York deeds of Steuben county New York, it is feasible he lived there from ab. 1820 and moved to Ohio by 1850. Recorded as John R. Booram/John R. Boormen in deeds.
NYS census of 1825 does not pertain to John R. Booram born ab. 1786
The Census of 1820 does not pertain to John R. Booram born ab. 1786
The Census of 1830 of John Burnham in Erwin, Steuben Co. NY are likely for John R. Booram being age 44 in 1830 and age 64 in Ohio Census in 1850 and 75 in 1860 census in Ohio.
There is no burial data, but John R. Booram died in Ohio perhaps in Perrysburg before 1 Apr. 1870,
There is no documentation for marriage to Sarah Baxter, “Sarah Booram” 1791-1849 burial in Wood County Ohio is not identified as his wife, though there is no wife in census of 1850.

NY, he was not the John in New Albion in 1840 etc.

Parents of Harriet Ann Perry

My 2nd great grandmother was Harriet Ann Perry. My records show that she was born in July of 1827. The marriage record shows she married James Doughman 15 June 1850 in Warren County. They wed before the 1850 census and between 1850 and 1860, they moved to Iowa. I haven't found any census records with Perry in Warren County at the time of their marriage. I have also looked in Clermont County, Ohio for Perry's as that is where Doughman's were also found. The 1900 Federal Census has Harriet and James living in Grundy Center, Grundy, Iowa. James died there 26 Jan 1906. I have not been able to find a death record for Harriet.

Their daughter was Angeline E. Doughman, born 1856 in Iowa, died 15 Sep 1924, Hastings, Adams, Nebraska. She married Sylvanus F. Magner, born. c. 1852 in Monroeville, Allen, Indiana, died 25 Nov 1937, Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska.

Contact me at Ancestry or my home address:

malamute_kid@sbcglobal.net

Gwen Lockwood

The Parentage of George McCowen, husband of Rhoda and Esther Pickering

I am looking for the parentage of George McCowen.

He was born on July 14, 1817 in Warren Co., Ohio and died on January 8, 1892 in Butler Twp, Darke Co., Ohio. He is buried in Ithaca Cemetery in Darke Co.

George married twice, that I know of.

1st to Rhoda Elizabeth Pickering (1827 - 1854) on June 18, 1846 in Darke Co. They had two children, again, that I know of.

2nd to Esther/Easter B. Pickering (1837 - 1930) on June 30, 1855 in Darke Co. She was the daughter of Martin Pickering and Elizabeth "Betsy" Baker. George had eleven additional children with her. I have all the names to each except a daughter that died as a child sometime before 1900. They were married until his death. The widow did not remarry.

I do not know how Rhoda and Esther were related. Definitely not sisters, because Esther's parents were married in 1834, after Rhoda was born. Can anyone break some light on that?

In the 1880 census, George McCowen's father's birthplace was listed as Ireland while his mother's was left blank.

I believe it is possible that George's grandparents might be the John (1746 - 1824) and Martha McCowen (1750 - 1823) of Ireland who are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Warren Co., Ohio... But I can't prove this.

In Ithaca Cemetery, there is another male McCowen who was born in 1826, about a decade after George. He was Thomas McCowen (1826 - 1907)... His parents were John McCowen (1786 - 1850), also buried in Ithaca cemetery, and Mary Briney... Thomas's obituary says that he only has two siblings living at the time of his death, John Jackson McCowen and Catherine McCowen Leslie.

The obituary fits, but the McCowen/Briney marriage was in 1820. 3 years after George was born.

100th Anniversary of the 1913 Flood as it cut through the Franklin/Carlisle area of Warren County, Ohio

The Warren County Genealogical Society is sponsoring a presentation commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the 1913 flood at 7:30 PM Wednesday, 20 Mar 2013, Phillippi Meeting Room of the Campus Center at the Otterbein Retirement Community, 585 N State Rte 741 (north of Rte 63), Lebanon, Ohio.

Harriet Foley, local historian, and a member of the 1913 flood Commemoration Committee, will talk about the 1913 Flood as it came down the Great Miami river from Chautauqua, through the Carlisle area, and the west side of Franklin. Then she will discuss why the east side (or downtown area) was not as damaged because that ground is higher. She will bring at least one of the archived photo albums, and Tom Foley’s map showing the Carlisle Cut-off of the New York Central Railroad. The 1913 Flood in Franklin, Ohio: A Finding Guide with reproductions of flood photos found at the Harding Museum will soon be available. Following her presentation, Harriet will have copies of the book for sale at $20.

Harriet Foley is a native of Warren County living in Franklin. She is a retired Carlisle School librarian who has been active for many years with the Franklin Area Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Warren County Genealogical Society. Harriet has done extensive genealogical research both in the United States and Ireland. She has been working on identifying flood pictures for the Franklin Area Historical Society and continues to serve as the editor for the “Heir Lines” quarterly published by the Warren County Genealogical Society.

"thomasker2," I've been researching this Bradford family for 25 years now, and sadly am better aquainted with the limitations (and also usefulness) of information from the census. Thank you for your reply though, and your comments and suggestions. I've researched most of them already and will continue to do so in the future, at least until another trail opens up to follow.

Thank you again.

I’m not related to any member of this family.

This is your problem -

Facts you should know about the early census records –

All census records [1790 – 1840] prior to the 1850 census ONLY listed the head of household; whether male or female.

NO specific age was stated for any family member
NO place of birth was stated – city, state, or country
NO city, town, or village is stated – only the county; however some census takers listed the township
NO street address was stated
NO marital status was stated – single, married, widowed, or divorced
NO family relationship was stated – brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, wife, inlaw, etc…
NO occupation was stated
NO parental birthplaces are stated
NO race was stated [but assume “white”]

1850, 1860 & 1870 census records do not show family relationships, marital status or parental birthplaces.

Step children are not enumerated as “step” children
Adopted children are not enumerated as “adopted”
Grand children are not enumerated as “grand children”
Orphaned children were not enumerated as "orphan"

1850 is the 1st census that shows all family members

1880 is the 1st census that shows parental birthplaces and family relationships +++

WHO did John Bradford Sr. marry??
Need her 1st name + DOB + birthplace.

WHERE did you get this information?????
WHERE were the children born ??????????
Father - John Bradford (died 1808)
Mother - No mother shown
Children - Margaret B.
If you are descended from the William Bradford shown in my initial post, then William is the brother of my 4g-grandfather named John Bradford in the same family. If my information recently found is correct, then William's mother most likely died giving birth to him, but I have no information on who she was, not even a name.

I would very much like to exchange some information with you and/or your sister as I have been working on this brick wall for 25 years now. You can post your reply here, or else directly to my using the contact information found by clicking on my name above this post. Please contact me, and let's exchange information and see if we can both learn something new.

After Googling 'Joseph Scofield', your Ancestry query popped up, which was amazing because it could easily have been written by our family. We share the same brick wall as you, and have been led to the same information you described. Even though we cannot quite prove it, we feel that William, who was age 2 in 1809, is our 3rd g.grandfather. Please e-mail sister, Nancy at nklwebster7@hotmail.com who is currently working on this line, then we can collaborate farther. We're excited to see what you have. This has been a huge quest in our family for about as long as it sounds like yours has been. It's a tough wall to penetrate, but with Heaven's help, hopefully we can begin to break through. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Except for recent burials, photos are now on line for 869 or the 879 known burials at the Bethany Church Cemetery in the Warren County Genealogical Society Virtual Cemetery Project. They may be viewed at http://goo.gl/Ud1VK

We thank Cheryl Jordan and Bill Hatfield who photographed all extant gravestones in 2006. Many additional photos were contributed by a host of other volunteers including Amy Cole, Loretta Rothman Dunham, David Frazier, Barbara Hurley, Kelly Kramer, Christopher Strauss, Bobbi Tindle, Arne Trelvik and Dean Walker. Bill Hatfield also compiled an extensive manuscript from his research of each individual buried in the cemetery. A copy of his work is on file at the Warren County Genealogical Society library.

With this addition, the Warren County Virtual Cemetery Project now has photos on line for 46,870 burials in 94 cemeteries.

Sounds like we are looking for the same people. Dick is my Grandfather. I know his parents were Rudolph & Louisa (meyer) Niehaus. They came here from Prussia. I have seen their marriage certificate (when I was growing up) because my uncle has it. He and my Aunt let me write down the wording (in German) so I could take it to my German teacher and get it translated to English, but I could not make out the year of their marriage. They are buried in Springdale, OH- I went to the cemetery (I live near there & my grandparents- their son & his wife) are buried there as well- Rudolph & Louisa do not have a grave marker- they are buried in the "poor" part of the cemetery where it is not uncommon to have no marker).

I also know Fred was killed in WWI in 1918 & is buried in France. The Springdale Recreation Center used to have a plaque honoring him in their ampitheatre- not sure if it is still there or not.

That is pretty much what I know. I've hit a brick wall too. There are several Rudolph & Louisa Niehaus' in this area during this time frame. I keep finding a Charlotte Louise Meyer that may be the same person- trying to verify that.

I see this post is from 2002. If you are still looking, please contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Jenn

Maria Wykoff (Cummins) Rape

I am looking for information about Maria Wykoff Cummins who married (1) Lewis Rape in 1835 in Preble County, Ohio and (2) Jacob Bender. She survived both husbands and can be found with her son Lafayette Rape in the 1880 census in Adams County, Indiana. The census information says she was born in 1808 in New Jersey (probably Somerset). Her father was born in New Jersey and her mother was born in New York. In the household also is Jane Commings and her child Thadeus. Jane is listed as a half sister. Family tradition says that Maria's father was William Cummins, but no documentation. There were William Cummins listed in censuses for Warren, Miami and Hamilton County OH in 1820 and 1830. Can anyone help me connect the dots?

John White

The number of children was given to me from a note found in the possession of Nancy Cameron Stewart, daughter of David, and my gggrandmother. James and Rebecca are buried in the Mount Pleasant cemetery in Monroe, Ohio which might be a clue. Let me know if you find a relationship, and if I come across anything I will contact you.
My #1 brick wall - John Bradford (1798-1877)

For a major part of 25 years, I have been seeking the parents or any other ancestry of my 4g-grandfather by the name of John Bradford (1798-1877). I have very recently followed the trail to Warren County, where I located the following family:

Father - John Bradford (died 1808)
Mother - No mother shown
Children - Margaret B. (1793-1867)
Robert (age 14 in 1809)
John (age 11 in 1809)
Polly (age 10 in 1809)
James (age 7 in 1809)
William (age 2 in 1809)

I believe for numerous reasons (mostly circumstantial and undocumented) that the son named John in this family is my re grandfather cited in the top paragraph above, and that is my interest in the family after a quarter century of searching for them. I located most (not all) of this information on a Warren County guardianship document, which indicated the father above died in 1808 and a man named Joseph Scofield officially became legal guardian for all 6 children on 7 June 1809. He also signed the permission for the bride to marry when Margaret got married in 1811 in Lebanon, Ohio.

I am now grasping at straws, and trying desperately to find any fragment of information on which to document the son John above as my 4g-grandfather. ANY little piece of new additional information potentially could lead to something.

In summary, I currently have a large amount of information on my 4g-grandfather named in the top paragraph, but NOT THE SLIGHTEST CLUE of any name for either parent or any siblings. I NOW also have this family above with numerous similarities (but no documented connection) that have led me to be convinced they are his family.

PLEASE help me if you can offer any clues to this mystery of mine. I need a fresh outlook from someone, and a new approach. I will send you a printout containing all documented information if you let me know, and are willing to help. Thanks.

Warren Co Land Survey Maps

Hi,
I'm looking for Land Survey Maps for Warren Co, specifically Franklin Township. I've already got a copy of the 1867 map from the GenWeb site, and the Bureau of Land Management doesn't appear to have maps of Ohio on their website. I'm looking primarily for the 1830-1850 timeframe. Does anyone know where I can find these maps (preferably online, but also in person)? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,

Trent

John Wesley Myers (Meyers) who was bro. to my gr. grandpa, Samuel Arthur Myers. As for Civil War info, refer to websites where each veteran's name is listed as well as relevant information. (My sister, Rose Rombeiro, collected massive family history before her death & I've inherited it all--glad to share.)

Pattons/Pattens Warren County, 1820

On the 1820 Warren County Federal Census, it lists five Pattons and two Pattens, all with first initials only.

In Deerfield Township there is a R and a J Patten. R Patton’s household composition is 3 males under 10, 1 male 26-44, 2 females under 10, and 1 female over 45. Does anyone know the given names of these two Pattons and their families?

November 16, 1822, a Richard Patton and wife Betsy sold land in Warren County. I wonder if the R Patten and Richard are the same, and/or if anyone knows anything about the Richard and his family?

Any information at all is appreciated.

1lesstime@gmail.com
According to Dr. Keever Clymer's journal (my gg grandfather), Phebe married a man by the name of Samuel Edwards in the fall of 1848 (but the Indiana marriage collection records show Apr 6, 1895 in Miami County). Phebe was confined and passed away in labor, left a child a son, named Christian. He was taken and raised by his uncle, John Clymer, until manhood when he married, and one or two children were born to them (I believe he actually had 3 children). He lived 10 miles south of Peru, Miami County, Indiana.
