Alice,

The index to "Trumbull County Ohio Death Records 1867-1908..." does not list an entry for Nicholas Hartman/Hardman/Hardtman/Hardtmann. As you'll notice, the County records began in 1867, and are fairly scant for the very earliest years.

It may be possible to check for cemetery records. You can inquire about cemetery records in Champion Township here:
http://www.wtcpl.org/site/c.iqLSI0OyGnF/b.3443837/k.AD25/WTC...

Dave Williams

Mary Ellen,

Mary Ann GRINDEL [sic] "of Bazetta" [Township, Trumbull Co.] and John MILLER were married on 30 March, 1845 by Eli Jackson, Justice of the Peace. The reference is: volume 1844-50, page 30 [for the license] and volume 4, page 152 [for the marriage record].

You may be able to obtain a copy of the record(s) from the ledger book(s) by contacting the Trumbull County Archives here:
http://www.archives.co.trumbull.oh.us/

Dave Williams

The index to "Trumbull County Ohio Death Records 1867-1908..." lists a John James, minister, who died in Mineral Ridge on 30 March, 1885 at the age of 66. He was a widower whose birthplace is listed as South Wales. Cause of death is given as paralysis, which may mean the results of a stroke. The reference is volume 2, page 285. There is no listing for a Mary James prior to his death.

There are no "Death Certificates" from this period; the record usually having been one line in a large ledger. However, you may be able to obtain a copy of the entry by contacting the Trumbull County Archives here:
http://www.archives.co.trumbull.oh.us/

Dave Williams

Gilbert enlisted as a Private in the Civil War on 26 January 1864 in Company I, 35th Infantry Regiment Indiana. He was transferred into Regiment US Veteran Reserve Corp on Oct. 8, 1864 after being wounded in action in the battle near Kennesaw Mountain July 20, 1864, and sent back to Nashville, Tenn. Gilbert got a small pension and lived in a nice large residence, of his own construction, on Indiana Avenue, in La Porte, Indiana, which is still standing. He and his wife, Mary, had at least two sons, Charles R., who moved to Seattle, and William E., who stayed in La Porte. Gilbert was the first president of the N.W. Indiana Bee Keepers Association and was a beehive manufacturer. He was also a master mechanic, plumber, and was supervisor of the city's water works. If you could e-mail a photo of his home, I would greatly appreciate it. My e-mail is jpsegalla@comcast.net Thank, Kara

I found him in the 1860 Census, listed as Hardman, living in Champion Township, Trumbull County. Age 74. He spent most of his life in Trumbull County and I feel sure this is where he died. I know that deaths were probably not recorded in that time period. He did not appear in the 1870 census. Thank you.

Trumbull County Cemetery Inscriptions 1800 - 1930
Author: Trumbull County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society
Publication: 1983
Page: p.269
Text:
Anderson, James Rev. War Soldier 12/25/1848 77------
Came 1804 from Chester Co., Pa.

My problem is that this James Anderson would most likely be too young. Also, It is my understanding that this James Anderson did not come to the US util after the war.

I have read in the Trumbull history books that in 1812 Arthur and James Anderson participated in the war of 1812.

Could the inscription have made a mistake....Or do i have the wrong James Anderson? (There are so many James Anderson's)

thank you

In 1888 George Perkins married Frances Anderson. She is listed as from Church Hill. As a married women she lives in Youngstown.

The 1870 census lists 2 Frances Anderson's. One from Lordstown and the other from Youngstown.

Which area would Church Hill be considered?

I I think she is the one from Lordstown because earlier censuses had Church Hill in Liberty.

Thank you, Moria

I am hoping to buy the marriage record for one couple:

Mary Ann Grindle to John Miller Feb 1845
in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio, according to the obit.

Mary Ann Grindle, the maiden, had moved in with her aunt. when she was 17...so says her obit.
Any way to determine the name of Aunt?
She could have been Grindle or Starner, article does not say if mother's sister (Starner)or father's sister (Grindle)...just aunt. Either way, her identity would be helpful in finding "their" parents.
This aunt should have birth of Pennsylvania.

Mary Ann Grindle should have only been 17 at time of marriage to John Miller, so did her aunt sign her marriage license to give permission?

Please contact me directly at PhotoRestore54@aol.com
(as my posted email address frequently fills to capacity with quilt related mail.) so we can exchange snail mail...I want to reemburse your expenses...and pay for that marriage record.

Mary Ellen
PhotoRestore54@aol.com
Florida

Gina,
If she died in Ohio, her death cert may be available on line. If you give me her married name and year of death, I would be able to see if her cert is available. Be aware that death ceerts are only as good as the info provided by the informant. If she lived alone or at a rooming house etc., you will often find parents names and place of birth as unknown.
I have been to the archives in Warren, and Emily and her staff are very helpful, but I now live in Oklahoma......
Ralph

I hope someone will go to Trumbull County Archives and look up the following marriage. Sent to me by a volunteer who has the Index books.

Weeks, John N. & Kimmey, Emmeline of Warren m 26 Nov 1860 by William C. Clark MG (L 1858-66 p 196) (vol 6 p 45)

I do not need a certificate. I just hope that on the license or certificate it will say where Emmeline (Emeline) was born and who her parents were. I found her in 1860 Census in Warren as a domestic help to the King family. Then she married John Weeks later that year. I feel so sure that she is my grandfather's older sister. She was born in Crawford County PA. Parents Peter Kimmy and Mary Pike.

Many thanks!
Gina

Dear Moria,

I am adding your ancestor's name to the subject line, to increase the possiblity of your relatives finding you.

I have found quite an interesting piece about George Perkins and Frances E. Anderson in Joseph Green Butler's History of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, Volume 2. You can access it on Google Books and it is on page 282 of the book. You can contact me off-list if you need help finding it.

Perkins was the Superintendant of the Youngstown Steel Company for twenty years and quite prominent in the community. He married Frances Anderson and they had three children. The son died at only 19, and the second daughter, Mary married Arthur Purnell of the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. and they had one daughter, Martha Frances Purnell.

The youngest daughter of George and Frances was Dorothy Frances Perkins, listed in the 1930 census living with her father and their housekeeper.

I'm sure you can find more information on these daughters.

You're going to have fun researching this family -- keep us posted!

Kind regards,

Nancy Fredenberg
Lauderhill, FL

There is a published transcription of cemeteries. I may be able to look something up this weekend. Do you know where they lived in Trumbull County? I couldn't find Isaac on the 1860 census.
