Mrs. Catherine Shafer, widow of the late Nathaniel Shafer, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Snavely, in Oceola (OH), Saturday, July 14. She had been ill for eleven weeks, the general breaking down of old age. Her passing from earth was peaceful and serene. The funeral was held from the M.E. church in Oceola, Rev. G.W. Houseman conducting the services. Interment in the churchyard adjoining. Catherine Anna Failer, daughter of John and Susanna (Miller) Failer, was born in Stark County, August 15, 1830 and lived to the age of 75 years, 10 months and 29 days. She grew to womanhood in her native county and was there married in 1849 to Nathaniel Shafer. They resided in Stark County, and later in Richland, coming to Crawford about thirty years ago and for a long time she had made her home with her children. [Mansfield (OH) News: 19 July 1906]
