I am trying to see if there is any information on a BORGELT family in the
area of Woodville, Sandusky County, Ohio; from a time period of about 1867
to 1878. My husband's great-grandfather (Philipp) BORGELT entered a Soldiers
Home near Dayton about 1878, where he died in 1885. On his entrance form,
he said he had been a resident of "Woodville, Indiana". We find no
evidence of him (there were at different times three Woodvilles in Indiana)
and wonder if it was perhaps Woodville, Ohio instead?

Specifically, I wonder if he can be found in the 1870 census, or in some
directory around the time period we have "lost" him? Any help or
suggestions from researchers in your county would be much appreciated. I
have 30 plus years of information on BORGELTs all over the US -- just can't
find information on the one I need!

Thanks for any assistance.

Ann Bergelt
Florida
I am looking for info about his birth, specifically his parents names. The later censuses show his mother as Maggie born in PA, and his Father as John born in Prussia/Germany. I suspect there was a name shift somewhere and am hoping to find 1) his father's orginal name and his mother's maiden name.
Any ideas on how to get a copy of his birth certificate, where to look (I tried the Fremont web page, but couldn't find anything) or who to contact would be appreciated.
LQQking for Ridgaway Richard Knott or Mitchell Knott info

Ridgaway was a native of Fayette County, born August 28, 1839 at Washington Courthouse, OH. May have went by the name Richard or Ridgie. He spent most of his early years in Fayette County and his parents names were Mitchell and Amanda (Stewart) Knott. Amanda Stewart's father could have been William Stewart.

After traveling out west he returned to Fayette County and married a Syphord, Sypherd, Siford or Syford lady, I have different first names for her Lydie, Avbilla, or Eliza August 15, 1850 or 1851. She was born Jun 20, 1838. Her parents were John and Edith "Eda" (Eige) Siford. They settled in Lindsey, OH Sandusky County

He had at least 1 brother John Noah Knott, who was also born in Fayette County. Could have been in Washington Courthouse, Ohio in 1861. He settled in Fremont, OH Sandusky County. Married Elizabeth Downs at Findlay on April 20th, 1881.

I would love to find his birth certificate etc. any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Also on Mitchell we have very little info he was the son of Gustavus Knott and Elizabeth Cloyd. He born in PA around 1829. They moved to Fayette County, the family appears in the 1850 census in Fayette County, OH. Gus was born in Maryland in 1787. Any info on him would be great too!

I am trying to find the parents of George Washington Culver (b. abt 1824) He served in the Civil War and died in 1864 in Wyandot County Oh. He married Rose Ann Eyestone of Wyandot Co. I believe Geo W's brother MAY HAVE BEEN James Culver (b.1829) and married Letitia Lamon. I am looking at Sandusky County for help based on a single line found in my research that said that a son of Geo W came from Clyde Ohio to marry a Wyandot County girl. I have hit a brick wall with this family and could use help with any info you may find. I am also in the process of trying to find the obits of both Geo W and James but I have not had any luck in this either - it is as if they just 'appeared' out of nowhere! But since I am not a believer in the old 'spontaneous generation' science theory, I must keep on looking!! Thanks in advance!

There is a third child, Bessie, that I can't find any info on.

Jay moved back with Zoa and her husband Maynard Hostetler to Stark Co., OH by the 1920 census.

I was wondering if anyone had any information about Emma and her death. I couldn't find a record of her death in the Ohio Death Certificate Index, so I don't know whether she died in OH or VA.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Not much on-line about this Blank. Below is what I've put together as a hypothesis of this gentleman's descendants. It is incomplete. I use [-?-] to denote an unknown maiden name. So if I have a widow with an unknown maiden name marrying as a widow, she goes in as Mary [-?-] Smith. If I later find her maiden name, she becomes Mary [Jones] Smith, since she married as Mary Smith. Included in the descent chart, I've included supporting evidence in notes. This family is not in my direct line, but in my brother in law's.
EdrieAnne

Descendants of William Blank

Generation No. 1

1.
POW/MIA Korean War, Sandusky Co. CARTER, WILLIAMS

I am searching for the families of 2 soldiers that were POW/KIA in the Korean War. When they entered service they gave Sandusky County, Ohio as thier home of record

Soldier: HAMPTON CURTIS CARTER
Born: July 31, 1926. Black
Date of loss; August 27, 1952. KIA

Soldier: CASSIUS ALLEN WILLIAMS, JR. (Green Springs)
Born: FEB. 16, 1923. Caucasian
Date of loss: November 5, 1950. KIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. These are 51 families from Ohio that are missing and two from Sandusky County.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Need Help with Photo of Grave in Whittlesey St. Cemetery

Hi list,
Does anyone take pictures at the Whittlesey St. Cemetery in Fremont,
OH?

I would love to have a photo/digital cemetery photo of Catharine W.
SHRENK, age 11 who is buried Lower Sandusky Cemetery
in Fremont, OH. She died 15 JAN 1846. I think Lower
Sandusky Cemetery is now known as Whittlesey St.
Cemetery.

"Whittlesey St. Cemetery is located at the base (or
bottom of the hill) of Whittlesey St. If you are
coming from Rt. 20, stop anywhere and get directions
to the Rutherford B. Hayes Library. That is located
between Hayes Ave. and Buckland Ave. Whittlesey St.
runs into Hayes Ave. 1 or 2 blocks East of the
intersection of Hayes & Buckland. (If you get to Wayne
St. you have gone 1 block to far.) Turn South on
Whittlesey and go as far as you can. I think the end
of the cemetery is at the end of that street."

I was there about 35 years age and I would love to
have a pic of the headstone. I think it is near a house with a screened in porch directly behind the grave? I now live in Arkansas and
cannot go there.

I understand some of the headstones are now out of
place and just propped up but this grave is in the
record so thought it might be there.

Can anyone help?
thanks, Bonnie

Hello,
I have a table in my front room and underneath it states:
"Fremont Furniture Company". I received the table after the death of my Greataunt. She was born in a house in Staunton, Indiana in Clay county that went back 3 generations. Her grandparents, my great-great grandparents, were married in Marion Co., OH in 1860. Their names were William Noble Hain and Anna Winterhalder/Winterhalter. By 1865 they are living in Clay County, IN. I'm thinking my great-great grandparents acquired this table in Ohio and brought it with them when they moved.
Has anyone heard of "The Fremont Furniture Company"?
It would be so neat to find out if this table came from my great-great-grandparents old stomping grounds!
Thanks, any help appreciated!
I have been going through information on my Solether, Rhoades, McMillan side of the family and I have found some sources that may help someone. First I have "A Guide to The City Beautiful Clyde" I don't know the exact date it was put out, but it details some of the businesses there..probably between 1890-1910.
Also I have a "Directory of Clyde and Vicinity. Dated January 1, 1887. Comprising A List Of The Names Of Persons Receiving Mail At The Village Post Office, Historical Sketches, Village Ordinances and Miscellaneous."
And, "The Firelands Pioneer: published by the Fire Lands Historical Society. dated 1867. Much info on early Fire Lands of Ohio.
And I also have a list of Names and Addresses of Officers and enlisted men of the "A-AREA" Branch of Camp Personnel. Camp Zachary Taylor, Kentucky, 1918-1919.
If anyone needs me to look up a name or any info. they may think would be in any of these let me know!
Dear Friends, I'm seeking someone who perhaps regularly visits the Hayes Presidential Center Library in Fremont, to photocopy some obituaries for me. I believe they charge $2.50 per obit by mail, but only 10 cents in person. I understand they have to make money somehow, but I can't quite accept that big a jump in costs, per obit. I can swap services from here in Bergen County, NJ or from the big library in Manhattan, New York Public Library genealogy division. Can anyone help? I only have between 8 and 12 obits but wouldn't mind developing an on-going relationship with someone who may visit that library from time to time. Thanks for reading, and let's advocate genealogical generosity!

My ancestor, Hugh Ferguson purchased land in Washington Township in 1835 and sold it in 1844 when he moved to St. Joseph, Co., Michigan.

Hugh was married to Margaret, and the had children John, Mahala, William Porter, Caroline, Hugh J., and Harriet, most of whom were born in Sandusky Co. between 1835 and 1844.

After Margaret died in Michigan in 1853, Hugh returned to Sandusky Co. and married Rebecca Skinner Black, widow of Samuel Black, in 1854. They lived in Cass Co., Michigan, until Hugh's death, when Rebecca moved to Illinois with some of her children and stepchildren.

I speculate that the family lived in Perry County, Ohio, before Sandusky County, and that Hugh and Margaret were married there in 1823.

This family has been a dead-end for me for a long time, and I would appreciate any additional information.

Thanks!

Hi,

I need to obtain a birth certificate from Sandusky, but I haven't been able to find a recently updated website with clear guidelines. I was hoping someone here can give me the information on what (and where) to send a request.

Most websites have told me that the county holds many birth certificates from 1867 onwards. The one I'm looking for is from 1878 in Clyde. Are certificates from that time available?

John W. Powell b. 1836 Sandusky County, Ohio parents John and Mary Powell

Trying to find information related to John Wesley Powell s/o John and Mary Powell born in Sandusky county, Ohio on Nov. 5, 1836. I have his obit and can find census records for him..but I cannot figure out WHICH John Powell is his father? It appears that his father, John Powell, was born about 1801 in Pennsylvania...and married a woman by the name of Mary. In the 1850 census, if I have the right family, it appears they lived in Liberty township, Seneca County, Ohio (this matches with the info in the obituary)...and John W (it appears from later census records that John also went by the name of Wesley) is listed as the oldest of 5 children. The name of Powell is spelled Powel in the 1850 census.

This obituary states that this John W. Powell was a minister in Findlay, Ohio at the time of his death and had moved to Findlay from Fostoria, Ohio 15 years earlier. It states that he married Katherine Hosler on Dec. 24, 1857 and that she preceded him in death 17 years earlier (this information is contradicted in internet postings). The obit also lists a couple of their living children, but notes that they had 6 children overall.

Information contained within OWT records on ancestry.com appears to be wrong when compared to the obituary that I have..so I am hesitant to use any of that information and would appreciate any help from anyone who can place this John Wesley Powell with the correct father and mother. Thank you.
I am looking for information on my great grandfather so I can try and track down his parents on back. His name is Charles Frederick Rothenbeck, b abt 1882 in Fremont OH.

Some descendants may have remained in Fostoria and

others relocated to Toledo. Names would be MALLLOY-ANDERSON

and FOES. David lived in Old Soldiers and Sailors Home; are there any

sources for obtaining records of residents in that home?
