The entry reads, Caroline Mutchler, w/o John J died Nov 8, 1857 age 33y 9m 11 das. Another entry, John J. 1818-1881, his wife Anna C. 1838-1905. hope this helps. gwen

I have started a new list for persons researching Eichenlaub. Currently, my brick wall is John J. Eichenlaub who appears to have immigrated before 1846 from Bavaria. It appears that he had three wives but I cannot find the name of the first one and have to speculate about the last names of wives #2 & #3.

Any help appreciated.

Ann Wilmer
wilmer@dmv.com
Help identifying photos from Ross County, Ohio from mid 1800's

We recently found a small album of tin-type photos belonging to Samuel D. Flaningam who was born in Ross County, Ohio in 1858. Not a single picture has a name on it. A few pictures had the name of a photographer in Chilicothe. Samuel was living in Indiana when he owned this album, but most of his family was from Ross County. I have posted the album online in hopes someone might recognize a family member. Other surnames associated with the Flaningams could be Abernathy and Larrick. The album can be found at
http://picasaweb.google.com/macraelrbphoto/SamuelDFlaningamA...

Hope we can put names to a few of these faces!
Laurei

Maggie Sifford was born Maggie Hickman in West Virginia. Maggie Hickman's first marriage was to a Henry Cain from West Virginia. Maggie's obituary states that she was a first cousin to Orville Jasper Sickels of Ross County, Ohio. Orville Jasper Sickels is the (husband of Laura Cain)from West Virginia.

Can anyone help with the connection? I know that Orville married Laura Cain of West Virginia. I do not see how Maggie and Laura are related.

Seeking any information on Maggie Hickman of West Virginia. Born July 1862 in Wood, WV. She was married to or had a child with a Henry Cain. Blanch Gretchen Cain born Jan 7, 1885 (Wood,WV?). Maggie Cain appears in Ross, Ohio with daughter Blanch and marries Lewis Cass Sifford Oct 13, 1890. She dies in 1900 in Lima Ohio of Consumption. I sincerely appreciate help of any kind. Thanks for your time reading such lengthy inquiry.
Mary E Siders / Robert Watts in SE Ohio, 1850

I am searching for information regarding Mary Elizabeth Siders, born about 1830. She married Robert Brownfield Watts in about 1850. This family had 8 children: William S (b. 1851), Mary F (B. 1854), James B (b. 1856) John E (b. 1859), Elizabeth B (b. 1864), Ella May (b.1868), Samantha (b. 1874), and Alexander (b. 1877). The family is known to have been in the Ross / Pike county OH area in the 1850's.

There is a page in a Watts family bible that list the following members of the Siders family:

Harriet Siders (b. 5/6/1818)
Susannah Siders (b. 4/1/1821)
Aaron Siders (b. 10/10/1822, d. 11/10/1822)
Margaret Siders (b. 1/26/1824)
John Siders (b. 9/20/1825, d. 9/28/1831)

I suspect that these are siblings of Mary Elizabeth. I hope this helps someone to identify this family. I am eager to hear from anyone who can tell me more about the Siders or the Watts families or provide leads.

Lawrence Shepherd, Fluvanna Co. VA/Ross Co. Ohio

I am descended from Lawrence Shepherd through his son, Abraham, who was the only one of 14 children to stay in Fluvanna Co. VA when Lawrence and the rest of his family migrated to Ross Co. OH in 1809. My mother and cousin, both very good family genealogists, have tried to determine who Lawrence's parents were and where he was born, but have run into a dead end, as I have. We know that he came from Loudoun Co. VA to Fluvanna in about 1787. There were many Shepherds in the Loudoun/Fairfax/Fauquier county area at that time, but we have found nothing that ties Lawrence to any of them. My grandmother always said that our Shepherd surname was translated from the German surname Shaeffer, although this is hearsay since no written records have been found that substantiate it. This might explain why we can't connect Lawrence to any other Northern VA Shepherds, who were apparently mostly of English origin. Does anybody out there know anything more about Lawrence?
I am looking for the link to my great grandmother Louise B. Hoover (Greisheimer) We have determined her father was Rudolph and her mother was a Bertha Richards. This is where is gets insane. Bertha shows up in Kentucky with a Frank G. but no daughter Louise. If you have anything please let me know. Thank you in advance. Catherine Meyer

I am looking any clue who his parents might be. Benjamin was in Fayette Co. by the 1850 census but I haven't been able to locate his parents there. Hoping to find his parents in Ross.

Searching for the ancestors and siblings of Eli Bullin b abt 1782 VA and d aft 1860, Ross Co. OH and the ancestors and siblings of Lucretia Goldsberry. Eli Bullin m Lucretia Goldsberry 20 Sep 1816, Ross Co. OH. Lucretia Goldsberry d before 1849 Fayette Co. OH. Eli then married Permila/Malinda/Millie Mountjoy. She was b. c1803 VA, and was a widow of James English. Known Children of Lucretia Goldsberry and Eli Bolin are: William Perry who m Eliza Jane Powell; Cynthia who m Thomas English; Ellen/Eleanor who m “Andrews”; maybe Nathan; maybe Martha who m Isaac Johnson and Eli who m Minerva Unknown. Eli and Lucretia’s children were born in Fayette Co. There is a gap between 1817 and 1827 when William Perry Bolin was born, so it is likely there were older children born in this marriage. No children were born to Eli and Permila/Malinda/Millie. Any information on Eli Bullin/Bolin and/or Lucretia Goldsberry will be appreciated. Thank You.

McGee-Stanhope cemetery is abandonned. I tried to find it two years ago and was in the area but there were signs posted for no trespassing so I did not proceed any further. It is just off Charleston Pike. There is a small road that turns into a private drive called Stanhope road. It is between Spud Run Rd. and Piney Creek Rd.

I see no listing in the RCGS book for anybody named Cave in that cemetery. I checked some of the other books I have for the area and find very few listings for Cave.

The book I have for Twin Twp. tombstone inscriptions lists Minney Cemetery. It is a list from 1967 so I do not think anybody has been there in recent times. I could not find John or Margaret Acord, but did find William Acord and Lydia McCann listed in Minney Cemetaery.

Acord Infant s/o Wm & L d Aug 3 1864 1da
Wesley s/o Wm & L d Dec 25 1857 3das
William d Sep 12 1881 ag 53yrs
Lydia McCann d Jul 7 1916 ag 75 yrs

I did not John or Margaret in any of the other books I have for the area. That does not mean they are not there somewhere, I just can't find them.

I found several other Acord families:

James and Lucy M. and James and Sarah.

LMK if they are of any interest. I also have Marriage books if you need anything there.

There may be a library in your area that would carry some of the books I do not have. Where do you live?
The Acord typo was my fault.

According to her Death cert she was born 10 May 1881 in Ross County Ohio. She died on 08 Nov 1944 in Chillicothe Ohio.

James Acord married Lucy Minnie 23 July 1878.

Pg. 52 of the Twin Twp. book lists:

Acord James Dec 18 1858 - Jan 23 1941
Lucy M his wife Jan 13 1859-Nov 23 1951 (One stone)

I have a bunch of books from the RCGS and can look up a lot of info if needed. The Ohio historical Society also has a lot of death certs on line but this link:

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html?...

Will actually let you see the original Death cert and print it if you care to.
There may be a marriage for the couple in Pickaway County. I'll check at the Ross County Genealogical Society or the Ross County Archives (they have the Pickaway County marriage books).

Thanks Shirley, it would be for James Lannon (Lannin, Lannum, on different variations of spelling) to Catherine O'Toole possibly Margaret Catherine O'Toole, natives of Ireland, and Catholic. They were not married in 1840 census records, they appear in 1860 in Vinton County, with the eldest child being 8 years old, I'm gauging they were married around 1850ish. Was always told married in Chilicothe, and two children's death records do list this as their birthplace. It has just been very elusive trying to find their record, bondsman, or witnesses. Thank you so very much for your offer.

Not from the Genealogy Society, I had on two occasions called the Court House and they did a quick 30 second search from their database. I sure would appreciate it, perhaps they weren't indexed properly or other books may have information at the Society. They were both staunch Catholic if that helps. When I called the Court House, I would give them different variations of Lannon, to Lennin, Lannum, Lonnon, etc. She has always been in census records as Catherine, and my family nickname for her was Kitty, although when I found her very non-descript obit, it listed that Mrs. Margaret Lannon passed away. So her full name may be Margaret Catherine O'Toole. Thank you so very much for the offer!

Thank you!! Your help is greatly appreciated! I will update my information immediately.

The death date of Josephine Depoy is most likely a typo. I have her death date as 1944, age 63.

Also, her maiden name was apparently also an error. It was ACORD, which has only 1 "C". She was my 2nd cousin, twice removed. Her parents were James A. Acord & Lucy M. Minney.

Thanks again!!

Wow! You do have a lot of info. Thanks again. May I please ask for another lookup?

--John Acord b. 1791- d. after the 1860 census
--Margaret Atwood Acord b. 1803- d. after the 1870 census

James A. Acord, Josephine's father, was the son of William Acord & Lydia McCann. They are buried in the Minney Cemetery, which I've been told is inaccessible. Is there a book listing burials in the Minney cemetery? It should be somewhere on Minney Hill Road and apparently is on private property. I have not been able to find the burial locations of William Acord's parents, John & Margaret, but they lived in Twin township at the time of their deaths.

This family also has members buried in several cemeteries in the same general area:

Johnson Cemetery (Acord & Atwood)
Old Storms Cemetery (Margaret Acord O'Bryant)
Pleasant Hill Cemetery (Wesley Acord)
Fels Cemetery (Richard Acord)

I have personally visited these cemeteries, except for the Minney Hill Cemetery, but found no stones for John & Margaret. I've been searching for them for about 7 years now, but can't get to the library due to distance and schedule.

Thank you for any help you can provide me. Your time and effort is much appreciated.

Thank you, Dan. James & Sarah (Phillips) Acord are most likely my gr-gr-grandparents, buried at Caldwell Cemetery? He was a son of John & Margaret also. My mother thought they were buried in Caldwell, but I can't find them there either. There is no record that I can find of their deaths at the courthouse. They appear together in 1860 in Twin twp., and she as a widow, living with daughter Margaret Elizabeth Acord O'Bryant in 1870, also in Twin twp. This daughter is buried at Storms Cemetery.

I may never find them, but I may never stop looking...! Thanks so much for your help.

The gravestone photos of James M. Acord & his wife, Sarah Jane Phillips Acord were taken at the Caldwell Cemetery in Jefferson twp., Ross Co., Ohio, and is located on old SR #35, north of Richmondale, Ohio. Their son Joseph G. Acord, his wife & several members of his family are also buried there. It is unknown at this time where James M. Acord's parents are buried (John Acord & Margaret Atwood Acord).
