Erma Mallow Stevens, age 77, of Athens, Ohio died Friday morning, Oct. 14, 2005 at her home.
Born August 2, 1928 at Clarksburg, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John Ray & Helen DeWees Mallow.
Mrs. Stevens was a graduate of Frankfort High School and Ohio University.
She was a former teacher, having taught in Good Hope, Frankfort, Chillicothe, Jackson, and Athens, Ohio schools.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Athens, and past president of United Methodist Women.
She was a member and past president of O’Bleness Memorial Hospital Guild as well as a member and past president of PEO Chapter DD.
Mrs. Stevens was an active oil painter and dedicated member of Sew ‘N Sew Quilt Guild.
Over the years she received several awards for oil painting and was recognized as an excellent quilter.
She was quite active in promoting scholarship awards for two programs at Ohio University.
Mrs. Stevens is survived by husband of 54 years, Howard Stevens; a daughter & son in law- Ann & Phillip Rush of Gahanna; two granddaughters- Katherine & Stephanie Rush of Gahanna, OH; two brothers and wives- John Thomas & D. J. Mallow of Clarksburg, Ohio and Joseph & Carolyn Mallow of Washington Court House, Ohio; a sister and husband, Martha & Gene Smith of Jeffersonville; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she is preceded by three sisters - Eleanor Mallow, Ida Calender, and Jane Kennedy.
Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday 1:00PM at the First United Methodist Church, Athens, by Rev. Mary Jo Yeakel with burial in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery (Ross County).
Friends may call Monday 2-4 and 7-9PM at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home.

Howard E. Stevens, age 83 of Athens, Ohio passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2011, at his residence.
He was born June 24, 1928, in Clarksburg, Ohio (Ross County) to Howard J. and Iola Knapp Stevens.
Mr. Stevens graduated from Clarksburg High School and Ohio University.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, working with soldiers in the United States Army Hospital in Tokyo, Japan.
He taught school for one year before joining Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company for a career in sales and public relations, while residing in Chillicothe, OH, Jackson, OH, and Athens.
He retired from American Electric Power in 1992.
Howard served the city and county of Athens as a city council member and on the county Board of Elections.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Athens, serving on church council.
Mr. Stevens was a dedicated Ohio University supporter and served on the Alumni Board of Directors. Additionally, Mr. and Mrs. Stevens played an active role in promoting scholarship at Ohio University, including the establishment of an endowed scholarship.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Erma Mallow Stevens.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Phillip Rush, and granddaughters Katherine Rush and Stephanie Rush of Gahanna, Ohio.
Also surviving are brothers- and sisters-in-law, John (D.J.) Mallow of Clarksburg, Ohio; Joseph (Carolyn) Mallow of Washington Court House, Ohio; Martha (Gene) Smith of Jeffersonville, Ohio; John Kennedy of Paw Paw, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, 24 Morris Avenue, Athens, Ohio. Burial will be Tuesday, October 11 at 10:30 a.m. in Browns Chapel Cemetery, Clarksburg, Ohio.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Howard’s name to Appalachian Community VNA Hospice & Health Services, 30 Herrold Avenue, Athens, Ohio 45701 or Ohio University.
