Identifying Shelby area farmhouse

Surnames: Hartman, Vinson, Lantz

The attached pictures were taken in 1978 of a farmhouse in the Shelby area (specifically Jackson Twp in 1800s census records). It has passed to me without any notes identifying which of several families in my line it might have belonged to - Hartman, Vinson, Lantz.

I believe the farmhouse might be near one of these locations:

1. East side of ROCK RD near STEIN RD intersection. (1873 Hartman land)
2. MYERS RD at PLYMOUTH SPRINGMILL RD intersection. (1873 Vinson land)
3. SPRINGMILL N RD near AMOY W RD. (1873 Lantz land)

Does anyone in the Shelby area recognize this farmhouse and know the location?

I deeply appreciate your help.

I have just read your question about a farm house located just outside of Shelby, ohio. I plan to do a little searching tomorrow for you. I was born and raised here in Jackson Township so I know the area well.

Just as I logged out, I decided to take a look at one particular home that I was familiar with that was located on a long lane on Myers Road in Shelby OH. If you visit the Richland County OH auditors office site and enter the address for 3177 Oesch Lane (formerly a long lane off of Myers Road). It appears that one of the photos is backwards but it is indeed the same home. The home is owned by Mrs. John (Katherine) Oesch. It was built in 1900. Oesch Lane is not far from the SW corner of Myers Road and State Route 39. Hope this information helps!

Thank you so much. You found the needle in the haystack for me! The location confirms this as the former home of the John F. Hartman family.

According to family history, the first log house on this site burned to the ground on 31 March 1869. A new “mammouth brick house” was built on the site of the original house. A daughter of John F. Hartman wrote “Got [the house] ready in 1869 and completed it in 1870. We moved in in November, Father having bought the Dunbar lot of 25 acres, also a little later he purchased the Augustine 64 acres... They quarried the sandstone on the Davidson farm for the basement at Springmill and Alex McDonald burned the brick for the house on his farm."

Anyone interested in local history can find these farms on the 1873 Plat Book maps posted on the Richland County, Ohio USGenWeb Site. Look at the Jackson Twp and Springfield Twp maps.

Again, you have my heartfelt thanks for your help!
