Ernest W. Jones, 89, of Lexington, died Friday, January 25, 2008 at Lexington Court Care Center after a brief illness. Born July 23, 1918 in Mansfield, he was the son of Leo Q. and Lola (Harter) Jones. Ernest graduated from Mansfield Senior High in 1936. He retired from the Post Office after 35 years of service and had served as the assistant superintendent of mail. After retiring, Ernest also worked part time for Hursh Drugs. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served on the Pastor Parish Committee, was trustee, and taught adult Sunday School. He was a Past Master of the Venus Lodge #152 F& AM, and also a Royal Arch Mason. Ernest enjoyed golf, bowling, reading, and music.
He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Jones of Mansfield; sister, Betty Garver; niece, Shirley and Skip Stehle and family of Mansfield and Florida; and nephew, Gary and Diane Garver and family of Mansfield and Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Zachman) Jones; parents; and brother-in-law, Robert Garver.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1592 Grace St., Mansfield, 44905, conducted by Rev. Gary Streiff. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
