MANSFIELD, Ohio – Eugene R. Whitmer, of Mifflin Care Center, turned 90 years old on July 1, 2015. He was born on July 1, 1925 in Shawnee, Ohio, to John and Goldie Morgan Whitmer.

He and his wife Mable (Hoops) have four children, Gloria (Whitmer) and Dennis George, Sharon (Whitmer) and Allen Smith, Joy (Whitmer) and Raymond Miller, and John and Barb Whitmer. They also have 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A Navy veteran having served in World War II, he was employed as an English teacher and pastor of the Church of the Nazarene. He retired in 1989.

Wanda M. Witmer Seckman, 91, of Ashland, Ohio, died, Thursday, July 9, 2015, in Hospice of North Central Ohio of Ashland.

She was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Shawnee, to John L. and Goldie E. (Morgan) Whitmer.

Wanda graduated from New Straitsville High School in 1942 and graduated from Mansfield Beauty School in 1968.

She married Willard Seckman in July 1948

Wanda purchased New Look Beauty Shop in Ashland, OH in 1972. Later, she had a shop from home called Wanda's Salon.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school.

Wanda enjoyed collecting antique dolls and going to auctions with Willard. She loved gardening and her flowers.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Karla (Richard) Rowe of Ashland; son, William (Mary) Jansen of Ashland; grandchildren, Sandra (Tim) Prince of Tennessee, Jacqueline Tupps of Ashland, Richard Rowe Jr. of Ashland, Laura (Todd) Longwell of Galion, Julie (Mike) Valentine of Galion, Mollie Jansen of Ashland and Hollie (Jeremy) Chance of Ashland; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Eugene (Mabel) Whitmer of Mansfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; brother, Frank Whitmer; and a grandson, William Jansen Jr.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home, with Pastor John Bouquet officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2015, in the funeral home.
