St Clair/Sinclair-Carroll Township

I am doing some research for a family member and trying to untangle a family in Carroll Township. It is difficult for me because I am in New York.

I have a Reuben St Clair who is the son of a Daniel StClair/Sinclair. Daniel is also the son of another Danial St Clair/Sinclair.

I have been trying to figure out if The name had changed from Sinclair to St Clair. Confusing matters more, there is a Daniel R St Clair and a Daniel R Sinclair listed as being buried in Rusha Cemetery along with a Danial St Clair and a Danial Sinclair. I don't know if an error has been made in transcription (I found this information online) or if there are actually 4 different Daniel/Danial StClair/Sinclairs buried in this cemetery. The Daniel St Clair that I am looking for was married to a Anna (Floro) St Clair.

If there is anyone with knowledge of this St Clair family, I would be grateful if you could help me figure this out.

From what I can tell this St Clair family has been in Carroll Township since at least 1850 but I am having a hard time finding them on any census prior to 1880. There should be numerous St Clair/Sinclair families in the area.

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give me.
