Dr. Richmond Barstow Taylor and family....

I am wondering if anyone has any information about (or if anyone else is related to) a Dr. Richmond Barstow Taylor, who was a physician practicing in Noble County--particularly Summerfield in the late 1800s. He married a Martha Jane Kirby in Morgan County in 1849. Children include Edward, Melville,Lydia, and Trueman (a child I believe might have died before reaching adulthood). Any information would be wonderful. I am also wondering how to find out what medical school Richmond Taylor attended so that I could contact the school to see if there are any photographs of him in their archives.

Thank you!

So far I can only find reference that he studied medicine in McConnelsville, Morgan Co., OH. which means he probably studied under another physician.

Dr Taylor and wife are buried in Eastern Cemetery, Summerfield OH, along with his second wife, Sarah Catherine Powell Buell (James). My parents bought what I believe is the old Taylor homestead on Lexington Ridge ca 1935. The 1876 Atlas of Noble County shows Edward H Taylor owned 246 acres in that area. The Uriah Cleary (1849-1939)family lived there before we bought it. The only connection I can find between the Cleary & Taylor families is Uriah Cleary's sister, Ann Mariah Cleary married Edward H Taylor (1850 - ).
I remember as a child (mid to late 1930s) that some people came to the farm & wanted to look around. They were from the Taylor family.
The house was a large brick structure, possibly built in the 1830s, and was reportedly a stage coach stop in the early days, being about halfway between Barnesville and Marietta.
Hope this helps.

This helps so much!! Dr. Taylor and his first wife, Martha Jane Kirby, were my great, great, great grandfather and grandmother. I have just started working on my own family project, and any information I get is treasured. Thank you for the information about the house. I am so thrilled you responded. Are you, by any chance, any relation of the Taylors? I am also trying to procure copies of photographs of people in this family...

Thank you so much again!!!!!

Thank you so much!! I didn't even think/realize that physicians often studied under other physicians (rather than attending medical school). This helps a lot.

No, I am not a relative, just interested in the area families.
There is information on Dr Taylor and son Melville in the following publication: History of the Ohio Conference of the Free Methodist Church by John Walter 1978 (sorry no pictures of them). It seems Dr Taylor was instrimental in starting the Free Methodist church in Summerfield OH. His son Melville was a member of the Ohio Conference for many years but may have transferred to the Methodist Episopal Church by the time he lived in Dresden OH. He may have served a year in the Kansas Conference of the Free Methodist Church also.
I did find the following information on Truman E Taylor from the Kansas State Census: 1885 lived with parents in Spring Hill, Johnson Co KS. 1915 lived in Logan, Dickerson Co KS with wife Clara M and children Wilford, Lola & Leslie.
