MRS. MARTHA
PLANTSMrs. Martha
PLANTS died at the
Columbus State hospital April 20, age 74 years, 3 months, 5 days. The deceased was born in
Pennsylvania and together with her husband emigrated to
Ohio in 1840. At an early age, she joined the M. E. church, and until afflicted with that dreaded disease, insanity, she was noted for her great religious zeal, and being possessed of more than ordinary ability she wielded an influence for good that was felt by all who knew her. Her willingness to assist the needy and distressed at any sacrifice was a marked characteristic of life and by so doing she was respected and esteemed by all classes of people. While her life seemed full of promise for usefulness, the dark shadow of insanity gradually but surely clouded her life until her mind became so enfeebled that she was taken from her family and friends and confined in an asylum and for thirty years, excepting a few brief periods, she was an inmate of that institution. Her last sickness was protracted and severe and it is but justice to Superintendent
Richardson to say that she was kindly cared for, her every want supplied by sympathizing friends and everything done that medical science could devise to make her comfortable. While her affliction has ever caused us sadness that none can understand but those who have like sorrow, yet we rejoice that she is free from all sufferings and safe within the haven of rest. Her funeral services were conducted by Rev. Evans assisted by Rev. Weaver.
No more will thou suffer in this world of woe;
Long hast thou endured but now it is all o’er;
Thou hast found sweet rest in that heavenly realm;
We loved thee on earth and we’ll meet thee in
Heaven.
