I am very interested in the Manley and Packard families in MA as well as OH. We can trace our Manleys and Packards back from OH to NY/VT and MA. I am trying to make the connection of the OH families with the ones in NY/VT and they go back into MA. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I am researching these surnames in Morrow Co. I believe Almeron Benson (b. 1812) is the son Giles Benson and nephew to Nimrod Benson. Daniel Benson may be the father of Giles and Nimrod.

Susan Barr b. 1832 in Morrow Co. married Hill Bates in Mt. Gilead and later moved with him to WI.

I would love to share information with others reseaching these families
I ordered a marriage cert from Morrow County Probate Office for an 1848 marriage. I rec'd a "Certified Copy of Marriage Record." I wrote back and asked for a copy of the original and any other docs related to this marriage. What I rec'd is a photo copy of a ledger, which would be fine EXCEPT all the listings on the page are clearly the same handwriting....even the signatures!
Where, how, do I get a copy of the ORIGINAL document, whatever it may be?

Ancestors James Hyler (b. 1795 NJ) and Ann E Jackson (b. 1903 NJ) were married in OH on 3/24/1819. James died 3/23/1874 in OH and Ann died on 5/23/1880 in OH. They are reportedly buried at Yankee St. Cemetery, Morrow (Co?), OH.
I'm wondering if there are newspaper obituaries dating back that far and if so how would I get a copy of any such obit?

Also does the cemetery name, Yankee St. Cemetery, ring any bells and if so is there an online list of people who've been put to rest there?

The earliest census report 1820, shows James living in Chester, Knox Co., OH. Then in 1870 he's living with son John & family with other son (Isaac) Jackson & family shown as next resident in Franklin, Morrow Co., OH.

Have found no solid leads as to the parentage of James

I'm hoping someone in Morrow county can help me. My great-great gandparents, ABRAM HYLER, a cabinet maker, and HENRIETTA GARDNER (both of Morrow Co., OH) are shown in the Peru, Morrow, OH census for 1860 together with child, DELLA, age 4 born OH. By 1880 HENRIETTA had moved to MI where the census reports her as a widow with 7 children, but Della is not included in the household. The last of the children born in OH was in 1865. Abram had served as a Union Army soldier during the Civil War as a guard at Camp Chase, OH which was a prison camp.

Although Della was 24 years old in 1880 she could have either married or died between the two census years. I can find no evidence of either event in either OH or MI. DELLA would have been too young to have married in OH when the first Hyler child was born in MI in 1868.

Would appreciate any help in searching for any possibe death record for Della in Morrow Co., OH or anything else that will fill in this "blank: . . .

I am looking at Ancestry's Morrow County, Ohio Vital Records, 1830-93. The Source Information says:
Herrin, Cynthia, ed.. Morrow County, Ohio Vital Records, 1830-93 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: The Generations Network, Inc., 1999.
About Morrow County, Ohio Vital Records, 1830-93
Collection of vital records for Morrow County, Ohio residents between 1830 and 1893

For more information about this database, click here.
Created in 1848 from surrounding counties, Morrow County is located in central Ohio, about fifty miles north of Columbus. This database is a collection of birth, marriage and death records for county residents between 1830 and 1893. It provides valuable information regarding nearly 9000 residents. In most cases it provides birth information, parents' names, marriage information, and death date. For some residents, it also reveals military service, occupation, and other helpful facts. Taken from existing county documents, this database can be of tremendous value to researchers of Ohio ancestors.

For inquiries regarding a specific entry in this database, the provider, Cynthia Herrin, can be contacted by sending e-mail to forms@tir.com.

I have tried reaching Cynthia at the above e-mail and it bounced. I have found several records I would like to order. Can anyone give me direction?

I am just starting my research in Morrow County. Where would I look for an obit and probate for Maj. Daniel Benson d.1848? I understand Morrow County was formed in February 1848. A family history states, "An old letter from his granddaughter-in-law tell of the school being dismissed for Major Benson's funeral and that most of the community was related to him in one way or another."

I have an 1849 map showing the property of Jacob & Martha (Benson) Knapp, Parmenius Darius Benson, Darius Benson, Job & Hannah (Benson) Davenport, Daniel Benson, Leander Benson, Jno. & unknown (Benson) Warner and Almeron Benson. I am interested in anything anyone has and am more than happy to share what I have at this time.
You would get her death certificate through the Morrow County Health Dept. See:
http://www.morrowcountyhealth.org/page.aspx?id=104724

The website does not say anything about an "uncertified copy" only certified. ($22.00.)

You could also contact the Morrow County Genealogical Society. Their homepage is:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohmorrow/index.html

They take research requests.

My greatgrandfather Albert Russell was born in Morrow County, OH, on 19 July 1843. He married Celia Fox, fought in Co. 34 of the Illinois Infantry in the Civil War. He died in the Illinois Soldiers and Sailors Home in 1916. I found only one Russell family in the Morrow County census for 1850 and no Albert in it. I am looking for Albert's parents' names and other family details. Any help will be appreciated.
J.Mitchell 11mitchell@home.com

Morrow County Bennetts

Hi,

I've been researching the Bennett Family in Morrow County for a few months now. I thought since this board seems so alive someone might have some insight for me. My Bennetts begin with Jonathan Bennett, b.1774 in New York. He moved to Morrow County, as did his son, Robert J. Bennett, who was my 3rd Great Grandfather. I'm trying (among other things) to identify his wife, whose name was Betsey. I have some info that says her last name might have been Cook/Cooke, and the censuses say that she was born in New Jersey. I have found a Robart J Bennett in Hardwick, NJ in 1830. Anyway, to make a long story short, I'm looking for more information on these Bennetts. I have a website devoted to my genealogy, so if you have Bennett ancestors, especially in Morrow County, please take a look at my site and let me know if you have any more information.

Here's the site (Robert's page - you can get to Jonathan by clicking on his name on the page under "father"):
http://www.kmbinnovations.com/genealogy/getperson.php?person...

Thanks so much and have a wonderful day!
- KBrown

Hi. I am seeking the parents and/or siblings of James Duffy. He was born abt. 1785 in Ireland?. He died on 6/2/1852 in Morrow County, Ohio. His occupation was a tailor. On January 31, 1830 in probably New Jersey he married Ann Vosseller (b. 1799 in NY, d. after 1880 in Morrow Co., OH, she was the daughter of Jacob Vosseller and Sarah Castner). James Duffy and his family moved from New Jersey to Morrow County, Ohio in 1848. I believe that before they moved to Ohio they may have lived in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The couple had 4 daughters: Mary, b. 1832, m. John DeWitt; Sarah, b. 1835; Jane, b. 1838; Martha, b. 1840; Margarette, b. 1843

Any information on James Duffy would surely be appreciated!
For some time I have been searching for the names of the parents of Richard Russell who was born about 1791 in New York and settled in the part of Delaware County that was joined to Morrow County. I think that Richard had these children:

1 Richard Russell 1791 - 1860
.. +Permelia Duell 1782 - 1870
......... 2 Seneca D. Russell 1812 – 1882 [my ancestor]
............. +Tabitha Rodgers 1819 – 1890 [also of early Delaware]
......... 2 Jane Russell 1820 - 1875
............. +Thorton Latch/Lee James 1816 - 1906
......... 2 Sydney Russell 1826 - 1880
............. +Electa Wood
......... *2nd Wife of Sydney Russell:
............. +Mary Ann Hare 1821 - 1894
......... 2 Edson Russell 1829 -
......... 2 Eben Russell 1830 - 1915
............. +Adeline Marinda Baldwin 1834 – 1893 [daughter of Elijah Baldwin?]
......... 2 Adelia Russell 1834 -

I have not had good luck contacting descendants of these people who might have in-family information about Richard. However, Eben Russell seemed to have the greatest number of descendants who remained in Delaware and Morrow counties; so I am posting information about Eben in the hope of making some useful connections.

According to documents in Eben's Civil War pension file, he enlisted on August 5, 1864 and was discharged on July 3, 1865, at Camp Chase, Ohio. He served in Company H 88th Ohio Infantry. At enlistment he was 5 feet, 11 inches, tall with a dark complexion, blue eyes and light hair. He was a farmer and died in 1915. (I am willing to share copies of documents from his pension file.)

Eben’s wife Adaline Russell, who died on June 11, 1893, was buried in Ashley Union Cemetery in Delaware County, Ohio ("DELAWARE COUNTY CEMETERIES, Delaware County Ohio at available on June 4, 2004). No dates were published for Eben, and his burial with his wife is apparently assumed and not recorded.

Eben’s mother was Permelia Duell/Duel/Deuel. Her ancestry goes through Quaker lines back to earliest Plymouth. I am willing to share what I have about her ancestry.

From Eben’s pension file and from Internet records, I have stitched together this outline of his descendants; and I appreciate corrections, additions and any information about the Russell family.

1 Eben Russell 1830 - 1915
.. +Adeline Marinda Baldwin 1834 - 1893
......... 2 William Russell 1853 -
......... 2 Nancy P.
John and Matilda Smith -- Mt. Gilead

I'm looking for information on John and Matilda Smith. Unfortunately, I know little about them.

They lived in or near Mt. Gilead at the time of their daughter Elizabeth's birth on 22 February 1859. I don't know if they had any other children. Both John and Matilda were born in Pennsylvania according to several of Elizabeth's census records and her death certificate.

Elizabeth later moved to Clyde, Sandusky Co. and finally to Toledo, Lucas Co. She married Charles Sherman and Edward Pierce, having a daughter Maude and a son Clyde.

Both John and Matilda have such common names, I know it's difficult to make a connection. If anyone has a possible one, I'd appreciate a reply.

Thanks!

John and Ann were in Bloomfield Township, Knox County, in 1820. According to Hill's History of Knox County, John died 20 Aug 1829 and Ann died in 1827. My assumptions is that they died in Bloomfield Township and are buried in what is now Morrow County, since they're not buried in Knox County. Can anyone look up burial information on either of them? I would like to have birth dates (even approximations) and cemetery. Thanks!

Thomas Hathaway and Electa (Letty) Denman were married on 15 Jul 1817 by Rev Henry George in Knox County. In 1820, they were in Jackson Township, Knox County; later they were in Morrow County (I don't know if THEY moved or the county division moved). I have secondary sources that say Electa died in Morrow County abt 1844 and is buried at Bryn Zion Cemetery there. The problem comes in here: Thomas married Sarah Jane Campbell on 01 Mar 1832 in Knox County. Had he and Electa divorced? Nobody seems to know what happened to Thomas, except that I do believe he died before 1850, leaving a 2nd wife, Sarah Jane (Campbell) Hathaway, to care for the children.[cf 1850 Morrow Co census]. Sarah Jane later remarried, to Thomas Fulton, on 22 Apr 1852 in Morrow County.

I would like a citation for Electa's life-dates, Thomas's life-dates (if he died there), where he is buried (if in Morrow County), and any divorce record that might be there. (Look in the Chancery Supreme Court records).

Actually, I'd just like any information that can be documented at all. :)

Thanks!

Hello,

I am looking for the death and burial information about James Chambers HUNTER, b. Dec 1828 in Richland Co., Ohio and died probably in Troy twp, Morrow Co., between 1900-1910. It appears he had lived on one farm from the time he was in his 20s until his death. He married Rebecca J. DOAK, daughter of John DOAK and Mary ANDERSON. Rebecca was born Nov 1832 in Beaver Co., PA and married J. C. Hunter 25 Sep 1855, I think in Morrow Co. Rebecca died sometime after the 1910 census, which was taken in April of 1910. The couple had no children, but they appear to have taken in a girl named Carra? APPLEMAN and later in the 1910 census, Rebecca Hunter is boarding with a member of the APPLEMAN family.

If anyone can help point me to the death dates for James Chambers and Rebecca J. (Doak) Hunter, I would very much appreciate the assistance. I did find the 1880 bio about J. Chambers Hunter in the Troy twp section of the county history book.

Thank you,
Laura

Searching for an obituary for William A Piper, d. July 7, 1961 in Morrow County. He would have been born about 1884 according to his Ohio Death Index record. The index does not list city of death.

I am trying to find out if he was the son of Rev.Walter Piper, an circuit minister in Iowa, who was born in England, and came to Pennsylvania in 1872 and moved to Iowa about 1883. If so, his mother would have been Emma Buzzard, of Northampton Co, PA.

Census in 1910 lists William in Clayton Co, IA, 1920 lists him in Marshall Co, KS, and 1930 in Fulton Co, OH, in each case, a Methodist Minister, probably an itinerant preacher like his father.

Any kind sole that could do an obituary lookup would be most appreciated.

Solloda M. Foye (1831-1897), oldest son of William and Jane Miller Foye (from Morrow County), was, I assumed, a bachelor farmer until he is listed in the 1895 Kansas state census, in McPherson County, as having, evidently, a wife listed as A.V.T. Foye - a 55 year old white female born in Ohio, living with him. No mention of her in his May 13, 1897 Morrow County obituary, and she disappears from subsequent census records. Does anyone know who she might have been - is she in a McPherson County cemetery? Or, might she have been, a live-in "friend", who was politely listed with his last name? Would love to know.
John Wolfinger - Atlanta, GA

Looking for more information on Francis M. TYLER and Ruth CONKLIN who married in Cardington on April 15, 1865.

Francis was born on April 12, 1838 and Ruth was born on December 24, 1841 both in Ohio. They eventually relocated to Lime Ridge, Sauk Co, Wisconsin. Looking for names of parents of both and where in Ohio they were born.

Ruth is listed in the 1860 census living with the Benson family. Don't know if this family is directly related or a adopted family.

Thank you in advance for any information. Carrie
