Sarah Elizabeth Wyatt & Hattie Smith marriages

Classification: Query
Surnames: Wyatt Patterson Shockley Smith Motter
My great grandmother was Sarah Elizabeth Wyatt. According to most family sources, she was known as Elizabeth, though some census records call her Sarah. I am trying to determine how many times and when she was married. Here is what I know.

Sarah Elizabeth was born June 20, 1845 in Loramie, Shelby, OH. Her parents were Jeptha and Mariah Wyatt. In the 1870 census, there is an Elizabeth Patterson living with Jeptha and Mariah, along with Sarah Elizabeth's children Maggie (born October 1866) and Reuben Jeptha Shockley (born January 1869). Elizabeth is about the same age as Sarah Elizabeth. Since relationships were not given in that census, it is not clear how/if this person was related to the Wyatts. I have not found Sarah Elizabeth Shockley in the 1870 census. Miami County, Ohio records list an Elizabeth Wyatt who married a Samuel H. Patterson in 1866 in Miami County. It’s possible that Samuel died shortly after the marriage and she married _____ Shockley prior to Maggie’s birth. It’s also possible that the Elizabeth Patterson living with the Wyatts was not Sarah Elizabeth.

The 1910 census says Sarah was married twice. If one of her marriages was annulled, it may not have been listed in the census. Or she may have lied about the number of marriages.

I have no information about _______ Shockley except that according to census records Maggie and Reuben Jeptha's father was born in Iowa. It is possible that he died prior to 1870 or deserted the family.

About 1872 Sarah Elizabeth married my great grandfather William J. Smith. They lived in Miami County (mostly Piqua) until around 1879 when they moved to Riverdale, IL. William was the first chief of police in Harvey, IL and their daughter Carrie Sinclare Smith was the first baby born in Harvey.

I am trying to find out:

1) If Sarah Elizabeth and Elizabeth Patterson are the same person

2) When/where Sarah Elizabeth married _________ Shockley and what happened to him (and more importantly, his first name!)

3)What happened to Samuel H. Patterson, if he is indeed part of my tree

4) When/where Sarah Elizabeth married William J. Smith

5) When/where Sarah Elizabeth and William's oldest daughter Hattie Smith married Jeremiah/Jermiah/Jerry Motter. I assume it was in Miami County around 1887 from other information I've gathered.

Any leads are greatly appreciated.
