I have some information on this line, but no generations further back than Isaac Smith and Mary Woods. I have their birth and death years and places and the names and a lot of info for 9 of their children (one of their daughters, Sarah I. Smith's obituary stated that she was preceded in death by 9 brothers and 2 sisters).

Let me know what you're looking for and I'll try to help. Or maybe since you posted this question you've found more and are in a position to help me! :)

Have a great day; I'll wait to hear back from you.
Natalie Jackson

Help with the Preston Family

Looking for information on William Preston born abt 1788 in England that married Ann Powell and had 8 children. I believe they came to America around 1824 and he is said to have died in Big Mountain, OH around 1830. His wife remarried his younger brother, Robert Preston born (1796-1878) and they had 2 more children. I have seen a bio written on Robert Prestons son, also named Robert Preston. It gives info on Robert but not William. I've heard the Prestons were the first pioneers of Marion and Hardin County. I have family info that says William was buried at Big Island, but haven't found his grave or any other info on him. If he was truly one of the first people there, you would think there would be something else written about him. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Cathi,
I unfortunately do not know what township he was born in Marion County. I have scrolled through each township in Marion County for the years 1830, 1840 and 1850 and have written down all families with the last name of Barnes. It has been several months since I did that and right now (2:00 a.m.) I can't seem to find my notes. I will look for them in the morning and see which townships had the most families with the surname of Barnes. Sorry if I am not making sense...I need some sleep. Thank you so much for your response! I will get back to you soon!

Amy

Amy,
Do you know which township he lived in?
I have had some success looking at Marion County marriage records and working back from there when I find that last name in the time period when there might be siblings who married. If you know which township he was in you can also look at land records for both Marion and Delaware counties. If you think his parents might have stayed in Marion County when he left for points west you might find that last name on one of the plat maps.
There are no birth or death records, and I have never had any success finding church records, even when I know which church the family was associated with.
I am mostly familiar with Marion Twp. and Grand Prairie Twp. I will look tomorrow and see if I find a Barnes. I am not in Ohio, so I have limited resources.
Cathi

Since that time, all birth and death certificates have been registered through our office.

Prior to September 7, 1949, marriages were record at the county probate courts as each county was formed. At that time, an index of all Ohio marriages was not maintained. It was not until 1949, that a statewide index of marriages that occurred in Ohio was created at the state level with the Ohio Department of Health, Office of Vital Statistics. While the state Office of Vital Statistics maintains indexes of all marriages, the county probate courts where the married couples applied for their license is where the official marriage certificate resides.

statement source -
Mark Kassouf
Assistant State Registrar/Chief Fraud Officer
Ohio Department of Health
Office of Vital Statistics

1910 -
Name:	George Barnes
Age in 1910:	79
Birth Year:	abt 1831
Birthplace:	Ohio
Home in 1910:	Tecumsch, Shawnee, Kansas
Race:	White
Gender:	Male
Relation to Head of House:	Head
Marital Status:	Married = 43
Spouse's Name:	Harriett Barnes
Father's Birthplace:	Ohio
Mother's Birthplace:	Ohio

George Barnes 79, OH
Harriett Barnes 61, OH - 4 children
Ray Barnes 41, ILL
David O Barnes 39, ILL

1850 -
Name:	George Barnes
Age:	21
Birth Year:	abt 1829
Birthplace:	Ohio
Home in 1850:	Franklin, Kendall, Illinois
Gender:	Male

John McCloud 43
Perlina McCloud 37
Jonathan McCloud 17
Julia Emma 10
Platt Emma 12
John Emma 7
James Emma 5
Jermiah Emma 5
Simeon Emma 2
George Barnes 21, OH

Sally Ann Indoe

Sally Ann Indoe

Sally Ann Indoe, age 83, of Marion, Ohio departed this life, Sunday afternoon, May 19, 2013, at the Morning View Care Center following an extended illness.

On October 1, 1929, Sally Ann was born in Lima, Ohio, one of two children of the late Frederick and Hazel (Grant) Fisher.
She graduated from Lima South High School in the Class of 1948.

Growing up, Sally Ann was a member of the Lima Grace Methodist Church, and one summer they took a trip as a church to Lakeside Methodist Institute. The Epworth United Methodist Church of Marion also sent a group, with a young man, Richard "Dick" Indoe, joining them. Sally Ann and Dick quickly became friends, and knew they had something special between the two of them. Following the church conference, they continued their relationship by seeing each other every other Sunday after church and sending each other countless letters. After three years of their long distance relationship, they were united in marriage on July 31, 1949, at the Lima Grace Methodist Church parsonage. They have cherished their 63 years of marriage, dancing every chance they could, and lovingly raising two daughters together, Carol and Connie.

With "music being in her blood", Sally Ann loved to both sing and dance. For nearly 60 years, she enjoyed being a part of the Marion Civic Chorus and singing in their musical, The Messiah. Dancing every opportunity she could, she and Dick danced with their friends at Milano's in Columbus for well over 15 years and with the Par Dance Club, which they were past presidents of.
Her favorite dances were the electric slide and the Macarena, which she always thought was called the "Macaroni".
When dancing as a couple, their favorite dance together was the waltz. They truly were "amazing dancers".

Dedicated to her church family, Sally Ann was a faithful member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, where she had served as their choir librarian for many years and was past president of the Epworth Women Society.
She also was a past member of the Y-Mennett's Club.

With a love for playing euchre, Sally Ann was a member of the "Town & Country" Euchre Club for many years, and she had served as their treasurer.

Despite being a little cantankerous and ornery, Sally Ann was a very loving and positive person, who was the pillar of her family. One of a kind, there will never be another Sally Ann Indoe.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Dick Indoe; her daughter, Connie (Robert) King; two grandchildren: Sara Williams and Ryan King; two great-grandchildren: Cameron and Cassidy Williams; a son-in-law, Dick Moore of Prospect; a brother-in-law, Tom (Jewell) Indoe; a sister-in-law, Nancy Jo Dasher, both of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Sally Ann was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Moore on December 12, 2012; her brother, Grant (Ruth) Fisher; and brother-in-law, Gene Dasher.

The Indoe family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to Noon on Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, OH.
Services celebrating her life will follow at Noon, with Rev. Daniel Kiger officiating.
Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church, c/o Church Choir, 249 E. Center St., Marion, OH 43302.

Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Sally Ann's family and your private condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
Marion Star & other Marion Co newspapers are on the ancestry newspaper list but they don't go back to 1824-1833, is the problem.
I'm just leery of sites where you have to pay before you can see actually see what sources they have. $10.00 is not out of line...just don't think they have what I want since no other source like (familysearch) has it either. Have to see if Marion CC cashed my check and go from there, its been 3 weeks will give it another week and will consult another source.
Thanks for your help and suggestions

Thanks for info, but heritagepursuit charges, and I don't want to subscribe to another genealogy list. I have been very disappointed in the past with some of the sites, saying they have records and then after you pay they refer you to a free site, or they don't have anything of real info at all.
I will try Prs. Hayes Library to see if they have the records I need.
Thanks

Judy, I *think* that these actions would have been heard in Marion County's "Chancery Court" which handled these matters. To get the record, you wold need to find a researcher who could go to the Clerk of Courts office and go through the Chancery records. Clerk of Courts employees won't and can't do it because they are busy with their jobs, and they are really busy.

If you do find someone locally, assuming you aren't local, then it would be fair to assume that you should reimburse them for their time and costs.

Hi Jim,
I have not researched John Brady, I read some about him online by the verifying, thorough genealogists and looked at John Brady's Big Island Township, Marion County, Ohio censuses. I noticed that Christopher Brady and John Brady both have children named Lavina and William.
I did not see a John Brady in the Marion Co OH Land Patents.
It would be interesting to see DNA at 67 Markers by descendants of these two Brady man.
Best wishes in your search,
Carol

Henry Strouse, 14 Feb 1841 to 21 Jan 1930 (GAR) & Martha Strouse, 20 Sep 1848 to 30 Jan 1902, are both buried in the New Caledonia Cemetery, Marion County, Ohio. They are in Section D, Row 20. Beside them is Lena Strouse, 1866 to 1923, but I do not know her relationship to them.

One more note... the gravestone of their son Isaiah is spelled Strous. No 'e' on the end.

Hope this helps,
Dennis.

I checked Ancestry.com for the Marion Star. It does not have those years. Are you familiar with the Rutherford B Hayes obituary site? You can usually get some information there, and you can find a library service to get a copy. Hope that helps.
